Bitpim can't find phone

I have a VX7000 that is about 2 weeks old. I have purchased a USB data cable and downloaded the Bitpim software 7.31 from Bitpim. I loaded the drivers, plugged in the phone and XP setup the new hardware (I've got XP Prof SP1). Ran Bitpim and it won't detect the phone. Checked device manager and it shows the LG modem, a LG com driver and a LG USB driver (no conficts). The com driver was set to com 5. Bitpim settings showed the com 5 as available and that it was likely to be the phone. Selected com 5 instead of auto but still no detection. Unplugging the phone and reconnecting seems to trigger the software to try and detect a phone (it tries twice) but it never finds it. Any ideas why this won't work??? Thanks
