Problem w/ MPX220 USB Cable connection

Hello,

I'm trying to flash my phone w/ the ROM updates but everytime I connect the phone with the USB cable the computer either freezes (which I have to reset the computer) or the device keeps appearing/disappearing under the DEVICE MANAGER. This is when the battery is removed so that I can flash it as advised by the MOTOROLA UPGRADE WIZARD. It shows "Smartphone 2002 USB Wireless" in the Device Manager under Modems. But every few seconds disappear and reappear. So the Motorola Upgrade Wizard does not detect the phone at all. A few days ago I was able to flash the phone with the Cingular 1.30 and Generic 1.25 with no problems, then I reverted back to AT&T .343 that same night. Now I want to upgrade the ROM to Cingular 1.30. But this time I'm having problems as stated above.

I should also point out that when I have the battery installed and the phone is on, ActiveSync runs fine and connects to the phone with no problems. Is it the cable or something wrong with the phone? I hope it's just the cable.

I'm running Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2.
