Ok, now I have all of these nice jpegs to make wallpapers,
but it seems webjal will only download if it is in a gif format.

So I go to ms Paint,
and resave it in GIF and then resize it to the right demensions but....When I do this, the pic comes up so grainy, it sucks!

Doesnt webjal accept jpeg files??

And if NOT.....Someone in the know please tell me how you guys reduce the size and change the formats of CLEAR JPEG files,
and end up with a CLEAR gif wallpaper?

How do u guys do it???

Download a program called irfanview. It resizes them and changes pictures for you . And it saves the good quality also.

WebJAL accepts JPEG files.

If you want to load a JPEG on your phone(I do since they look better and more crisp and clear), open WebJAL and go to load Wallpaper, but just type the name of the file in the box, you won't be able to select the file since it will only display .gifs. Then click OK and Download. You now have the file on your phone.

WOW....now thats why I LOVE THIS PLACE!

Look how each one teaches one!

Good lookin out folks!

NOW WHO CAN ANSWER THIS...... u know the way WAVs take up more space than JPEG?

Well, Do u know if JPEGS take up more space than GIF's or vice versa?

That'd be interesting to know.

Oh and one last question... its common knowledge Im sure. Whats the biggest or most appropriate size wall paper or pic
demensions we are to use on our i860 phones?

JPEG are usually lighter is size [kb] than .gif, which are usually more flexible [for animations and such] and which is why they are bigger and sometimes not as clear.

MP3s have better overall sound than .Wav files and are also smaller by default. Many of you have problems converting songs to .mp3, then here is how to do it:

-Google "Audacity" and download the latest version (although whatever version will work).

-Google "LAME" (just like that), which is a plug-in for Audacity (it would usually say it on the google results or on the description on download.com or something like that) that adds .MP3s.

-Install Audacity THEN "LAME" (lamewin.exe i think it is). LAME is necessary in order to be able to save .mp3s, without it the purpose of this guide is defeated.

For those of you too lazy, here are the download links:

*Audacity download page
*Audacity for Windows machines

*LAME MP3 Encoder

If one of this downloads doesn't work for you, then google it yourself.

Now on to the tutorial...

The first thing you want to do after you've install Audacity AND Lame MP3 Encoder, is to actually run the program. So go to your start > programs menu or wherever you have the program and run it.

-Next, go to File > Open > and browse for the specific song you would like to start with and convert (plus resize) to .mp3.

Now lets take that same song and cut the part of it that you want (as you may or may not know, aproximately 30 seconds).

Audacity has a meter [one running and a bar on top of the track) that keeps track of the seconds, so you could easily do it just from 1-30 by just overshadowing that part.

If you want a different part of the song (like 30 seconds from the middle), then just overshadow (by left clicking and running your mouse over it) the parts that you don't want, and then going to EDIT > CUT (that would take out that part, but also let you recover it in case you make a mistake).

Now you are left with the 30 seconds [or less] you want from that specific song. overshadow whatever is left of it (as shown on the image below. again by mouse over-ing it) and go to "File > Edit export as .mp3" or you could export it as a .wav if you prefer.

Now, the file may still be too big for the phone (if .wav specially) or too low. We now need to go to Sound Recorder (Start > Programs > Accesories > Entertaiment > Sound Recorder) and increase the volume of the song (Effects > Increase Volume by 25%).

Before saving the song, there is one more thing that needs to be done, and i have to run to school now. As soon as i get off, i'll finish this guide.

Those of you who are just using .mp3s can forget about the Sound Recorder part (or simply need to do it BEFORE saving the song as an .MP3, therefore export the song as a .wav on Audacity, do the Sound Recoder steps and then go back and open the song with Audacity and export as .mp3 finally). If you're just using an .mp3 on your i860, you may try to just upload the song raw as it is and see if it works (not the whole song, but the one we just cut and fixed on Audacity).

My Nextel i860 doesn't get here until Thursday or Friday, which is why i need you guys to test it for me.

The rest of you using .wavs, be patient that i'll include all of that when i come back.

so far my i860 is uploading the raw mp3s. thanks! Audacity is great for editing. I even increase and decrease volume with audacity so I dont think u really need to use ur sound recorder, do u?

thankz again
