Master reset - reformatting?

I'm not sure what exactly happened but on Friday my phone went haywire! I handed it to a co-worker to show him a picture, he looked at it and handed it back to me, then when I looked at the screen it was shutting down. I was like "WTF?" and then this dos looking screen comes up that says "master reset - reformatting". I flipped out, and pulled my battery off. When I started it back it took forever to start back up, and when it did, everything was gone...it acctually did reformat it. It did all this on its own. Whats the deal here? I lost all my pictures, text messages, call history, and contacts. Luckily, thanks to Activesync, I was able to get everything back.

Also having problems with the phone and storage card access. I have a 256mb mini-SD card, and right now I have it set up so that the default directory for mp3's, pictures, and videos are all on the storage card, since I lost all my pictures last time using the phones memory. It seems to loose contact with the card a lot for some reason...like I tried to take a pic yesturday and it said "storage card is full, would you like to save your picture in the phone memory?" THe card isn't even close to being full yet, think I've only used 80megs up on it. it also messes up with the MP3's a lot, like it'll cut them off in the middle of playing them saying "windows cannot play this file". What I've found is best way to deal with these issues is to remove the card and re-insert it.

Anyone else having similar issues? I love this phone, but it sure is buggy!

You should of NEVER pulled the phone's battery out when you saw this. You should of let it format and be done with it. You could of messed up the ROM image on your phone or even worse the restore point that it reformats your phone with.

You shouldn't do a hard reset with the miniSD in the phone, that is probably why the phone is having a hard time reading the card.

You need to do two things.

first, reformat the miniSD card. Put it in its miniSD to SD adapter and format it in a digital camera. Put all your files back on the card and see if the phone still has a problem with reading the card correctly. If it still does then take out the miniSD card and back up what you want on the phone and do another master reset and this time DO NOT remove the battery.

Put the miniSD back in the phone and see if it works right.

my mini-SD card has always acted buggy. its not acting any different than it did when I purchased it. Anyway I can't reformat it as i don't have a digital camera and I sorta accidently threw away the adapter...lol I left it in the packaging in my car, had it on the floor, and when I cleaned my car out, I threw away the packaging without even thinking about it.

Anyway, why would it just decide to format itself on its own? I'm still kinda pissed about that. I almost threw my phone against the wall....I literally had to tell myself the whole time it was pulling that ****, "300 dollars cory, 300 dollars cory, don't throw it". Yeah I was pissed.

Reformatting the card with a digital camera or other SD device that can format will fix this problem. I have a 256mb SanDisk card aswell. I notice alot of people having problems with this card...I never had to reformat it but I figure that would fix the problem.

I have never heard of the MPx 220 reformating itself. Are you sure your friend didn't press the power button and the action button at the same time?

he might have, you mean pushing both buttons would reformat it? As far as I can tell he was just lightly holding the phone on its edges.

Thats the only thing I can think of that would of caused the phone to do a hard reset.

I had a phone do that. Only it never reset/recovered until I pulled the battery. After I got it to boot again my data was gone. The keys on the keyboard also started failing and then it shut itself down and remained off until the battery was pulled. Got a replacement which is working fine. All I did was pick it up from the tabletop. It was working fine when I set it down. I was pretty upset when it failed.

so anyway, I think my miniSD card is messed up, its acting all screwy now. windows media player always seems to find the MP3's regardless, but everything else is going wrong. the resource manager is now reading it under mulitple sizes with various different amounts of space taken up. it said it was a 512 one time, with 400 megs used up, then I took it out and re-inserted it, and it said it was a 256 with 0 megs free...

either way now it won't work right at all...only thing I can access is mp3's. Sometimes when goin to the file manager, it doesn't show any files.

theres nothing really valuable on the card that isn't backed up on my PC, but nonetheless, I can't really afford a new miniSD card right now. I may have to see if someone has an adapter, and use my friends digital camera, hopefully that'll fix it.

Hi ! I have a problem and I think that resseting the phone might be a solution. Can anyone help me with the following? I have a mpx220 which was previously used by my mother. Now, its mine, so I want to change its settings. What I can not change is that when using ActiveSync, her name appears in the application. Also, while using Bluetooth, when my friends look for an active phone my mother's name appears again on their phones. Does anybody know how to change this? If I reset the phone, is there any difficult setting which I may not know such as networks settings, or something like that? Thanks!

What's wrong with formatting with a mini-sd inside?

Posted by: Omega2008

Because it won't do it correctly. Besides I don't think you can format it on the phone itself.
