It's impossible to judge what the problem is...if all this fails to turn up anything, I would suggest un-installing, rebooting and re-installing the drivers.
What USB cable are you using? Was it specifically designed for the VX7000?
I'll assume it is a correct cable.
1. The phone is powered ON, right?
2. Did you get any error messages during the driver installation?
3. Have you looked to see if your phone is on another port?
Edit --> Settings --> Browse button
That should bring up a dialogue that is titled: Choose a comm port
In it, there should be a list headed up like:
==== Available Ports =====
(*)LG CDMA USB Modem Diagnostic Serial Port Drivers (WDM)(COM4)
==== Inoperable Ports =====
...hopefully you won't see your COM4 down below this line!
Make sure the phone is connected and the USB inserted BEFORE you start BitPim or QPST.

gearscout,
I have having a similar problem with my LG VX6100 and BitPim.
How do you uninstall and then reinstall the drivers?
Thanks.

Petrags23,
First, you've got to make sure you've got the right cable. Without that, nothing is going to work.
But if you have the cable designed for that phone, and BitPim reports that it found the port but not the hardware, that's a logical step -- to uninstall and re-install the drivers.
What OS are you using? In XP...
Unplug the Data/Phone cable...
Go to -->Start -->Control Panel
Select -->System --->Hardware (Tab)
Press the "Device Manager" button
That will bring up a list of system components. Go down the list to Ports (COM & LPT) and click the + (plus) sign to open up that list.
Now, PLUG the Data Cable with the phone attached to it into a USB Port...
You should hear the "hardware found" tones sound and a new listing should come up in the Ports list that says something like:
"LG CDMA USB Modem Diagnostic Serial Port Drivers (WDM)(COM4)"
If that comes up, the drivers are installed.
If you opposite click on that, you'll be able to click on "Properties" and you can uninstall them from the "Driver" tab in that dialogue.
For the VX7000 (that's working with the data cable) I see...
Driver Provider: LG Electronics
Driver Date : 10/15/2002
Driver Version: 3.35.0.600
You can download a VX7000 driver here.
The USB Modem Driver is in a box on the right at the top.
For the 6100...I couldn't find a product listing that offered a similar download. There probably is one...or someone else here will have it.
Did you already try the steps I posted above to see if BitPim was recognizing your Phone?
Hope that helps...

hey dont know if your still there but i
yes it the correct cable it says compatible with lg 6000 and lg 7000
the phone is on when i plug it in i can use it as a modem wich is useless unless im on my laptop. and the
lge cdma usb modem(vcomm) port becomes available for use but
it says theres no phone connected in qpst and there is no * next to it in bitpim
there was no error messages when the drivers were installed
3. only port with lg on it
LG CDMA USB Modem Diagnostic Serial Port(vcomm) appears in device manager
IVE UNINSTALLED AND REINSTALLED the drivers with both futerdial and lg drivers

Don't have BOTH sets of drivers running.
Uninstall them ALL...re-install the LG drivers, they work fine for the VX7000 and QPST and BitPim.

i did have them all runnig seperatly.
does yours mention vcomm when you plug it in and if not how would i get rid of that
