I just set up my data number on t-mobile and sent and recived my first fax on my 9500 I LOVE IT. I called tech support to add the feature be sure to tell them that all you want is a data line on your account for faxes its basically a CSD number maybe I'm too excited and most of you have done it probably but it can be done.

What's the CSD #? That way, others can set their phones up with this and try it .

LOL Unless your serious about me posting my CSD number for you guys to try and the other thing about it is that there is zero configuration once its activated the phone knows automatically that when that line rings in its a fax.

Sorry about that, I was under the wrong impression here. By CSD, I was thinking of Circuit Switchen Data numbers for WAP access which tended to be centralized through one number and not one which was user-specific.

Then again, this is the best way to clarify misunderstandings and this certainly was a big one on my part.

Do you have to turn the fax program on when you want to use it,or is it always running?
Thanks....Later....

it uses the internal messaging program so anytime someone dials my phones fax number it knows its a data call it rings diffrently and then answers and stores it in the messaging inbox as a fax. What I found is that on cingular you can use the same number for voice and fax I'm not quite sure how it knows the diffrence but it does my friend has a 9300 on cingular his CSD is only 3.99 a month and if i fax him from a land line to that number he gets it fine no problem. I LOVE THIS PHONE!!!

Well, for Tmobile; The incoming fax WITHOUT the CSD option can actually goto your voicemail box. But retrieving it will be close to impossible. You can tell your voicemail - if its enhanced voicemail - to send the saved Fax/voicemail to download to another number, that number better be an actual fax machine.

The CSD option allows for the network switch to differentiate an incoming fax call to be identified and retrieved immediately or to voicemail & retrieved directly to your 9500/9300. This is a serious plus. Enjoy!!

And to answer somebody else's question.....yes its always on! So if a fax went to your voicemail, and say your 9300 got run over by a car; and your lucky enough to hold the driver responsible for a brand new 9500; you'll be able to retrieve that fax directly!! I'm not advocating ransom here people, heh.

I have read with interest the post on setting up fax via a second (?) data line for a Nokia 9500 on TMobile US.

I operate a 9300, and I'd like to have a fax number enabled. Nobody at TMo seems to know what I'm talking about. How do I go about doing this?

Any information you guys can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi!
I am getting Nokia 9300 - I guess, it has the same software like 9500.
I also got fax CSD and T-Mobile also gave me CSDS number which they do not know what's that for.
I tried to use that new fax CSD option with Ericsson T610 - it works only via IR port, it sends and gets fax messages. Quality is horrible.
I wonder if Nokia 9500 does better job on getting fax messages.
Best regards

I had the same problem. I was lucky to get in touch with one lady who used to work for T-Mobile/VoiceStream for 9 years. She said you should ask for Fax CSD number which will cost you 9.99$ per month.
That's it. I got that CSD number and I tested on Sony T610. I could connect it only via IR port.
So, I am getting Nokia 9300 which is only one phone/pda with fax support.

I get the Fax service from my provider: Orange Dominican republic
Seems to be like Tmobile one. But here (dominican republic) they just offer the Fax service without the CSD number (for US$1.80, actual rate) just plain Fax that goes to your voicemail and you have to resend that to an actual fax machine. I was trying last night to send to my 9500 and I receive an incoming call with the fax "beeps" but my 9500 doesnt seem to understand the call and droped after 3 or 4 odd beeps.
Please help me, because I got my 9500 to do that and I'm noobie using symbian (my prior PDA was an Imate XDA II pocket pc phone) and I really appreciate if someone help me fix this

Do you have to configure something or I really need the CSD service to get faxing done?

Thanks!

Posted by: bigjigga

NO you don't have to configure anything at all the way it works is that when CSD is activated on your account they should give you a sperate number for instance my cell phone number ends in 2977 and my fax os 0941 there also a data number but I dont remember what it is... The most important part i realized recently is a lot of times they want to give you the Data number instead of the fax so I recomend while you have them on the line to call the number they give you your phone's display will read. Data Call for data or Fax Call you want it to read fax call anytime it gets a fax call I belive it's set to answer after 3 rings.. and to clerify I'm not talking about voicemail fax inbox I'm talking about the the inbox on the phone...
