Hi. I got my subsidiary unlock from cingular a week ago. I did not get a chance to test a SIM on it, but im 99% sure it was the right code, it was an 8-digit code and when I entered it, it said the SIM was unlocked (it wasnt a SIM unlock code). Anyway, I had to hard reset my phone the other day and today I borrowed a friend of mines Tmobile SIM and when i turned on the phone the 650 said the sim was not allowed. Is this because after hard reseting, my 650 lost the unlock code? or is it because the unlock code never did anything in the first place.

Well according to Cingular, put in the subity unlock code with the Cingular SIM in... the thing is, first time I put the code in and swap in a T-Mobile SIM the phone says not allowed so I swap back the Cingular SIM and put the code in again, this time it worked.

I am sure that once it's unlocked you don't have to enter your unlock again. Of course if you do, just have the code with you so it's accessible anywhere.

Once the unlock code is input, it's there forever. Hard resets and firmware updates don't remove it. I believe I remember reading that you need a Cingular SIM to do it correctly, like the guy above said.

i dont get it. how can they give me an 8 digit code that is incorrect and my phone tell me the sim was unlocked. wouldnt the 650 say invalid code if it was not the right code?

I called up Cingular and got an unlock code for my Treo 650 so that I could use my AT&T Wireless Sim Card. Since then I have done two hard resets and two firmware upgrades and never had to enter the unlock code again. Also i think I remember reading that if you enter the wrong unlock code it won't give you an error but if you enter the incorrect code 5 times it will be locked forever.

never be locked? or never be "unlocked"? im getting scared now because cingular gave me this code and i already input it twice, so does that mean i only have three more tries before my phone is ever unlockable?

cingular first gave me an unlock code but the rep did not even ask for my imei number, so i knew it had to be wrong. apparently is was the sim unlock code the rep gave me, and it did not work. well, actually there is a bug on the treo 650 in which even if you enter an incorrect unlock code, you still get the message stating your phone is unlocked.

i would call cingular again and ask for the phone's unlock code and make sure they ask for your imei number.
