Introducing the new V398_A monster pack!

This is the first completely customized monster pack for the E398.

Although the 3MB of space plus the TFlash card is plenty to add your own personal customizations, you can also directly delete many of the multimedia extras to free up another MB in space. If this still is not enough, stay tuned for the V398MP_LITE edition, which is completely striped to maximize availible user space.

Although you might have a point , to date no-1 has found a way to increase sms space by letting the phone's memory store it.

Hence increasing the phone's memory wont allow u more sms space until some1 finds out the seem edit for the number of msgs allowed.

There is a limit of around 100 msgs inclusive of both inbox n outbox folders.

IF you find tht you cant store more than around 20 to 30 msgs, this is bcos they r being stored on your SIM, you can switch it to be stored on your phone but even then the max limit is 100 msgs

one question tho... My sim is 64K, jez happen it don't display the "special sms" option, which usually located under the "office tools". I wonder which seem edit shud i do to enable it.

p/s: "Special sms" option in my sim allows me to check n pay bills, news update, download stuffs (tones/wallpapers/ssavers), all via sms. Its been simplified from regular sms which u need to type it one-by-one.

If you do have the capability, do help eric2k out with the bandwidth load on this by mirroring. He was kind enough to take the initiative to serve to everybody initially. Motomodders has it now too I think.

GuInHow: This has lang pack 0003 (English, Spanish, Canadian French, Portueguese). You can use any 9XR lang pack your want however to change to your language.

kok: Lite edition is in testing, still has some problems. Gonna be a few days probably, sorry guys. Exams take priority here. BTW I also dont think it will help with SMS storage, as 3MB is enough to store thousands of text files as it is.

Hmm... maybe its the same. It actually comes with the SIM, not via flex. But, there must be some seem to be edited to display this option. Previously, on my plain (unmodded) 95R & 7F, the option is located under office tools by the name "easy access". Any idea which seem do i have to edit?

i have an issue though, before i flash this file on...

i noticed that the .SHX file is named:
V398_R372_G_0E.20.95R_A_PDS001_LP0003_DRM0001_JPJA VA_G_0E_E398_05_03R_SE8609AXXJ804C_BOOT07E0_1FF_EY EZHACKED.shx

and the .HMG file is named:
V398_R372_G_0E.20.95R_A_PDS001_LP0003_DRM0001_JPJA VA_G_0E_E398_05_03R_SE8609AXXJ804C_BOOT07E0_1FF.hm g

when i put in the .SHX file into MultiFlashFlex.exe (hadn't flashed it yet), i saw that a text file called FlashErrorLog1 was created in the folder with the .SHX file in it. inside this file it said:

seems like it's looking for a .HMG file with the same name. that spooked me a bit, so i didn't proceed with flashing. is it ok to proceed? or do the two files need to have the same name?

An update on the "SIM Applications"...

The seem edits are already enabled on the phone. I changed the menu to include the option, but the SIM App menu item still did not appear. I am thinking that the flash 95R_A may not include this SIM App functionality.

Hmmm... maybe its jez me n my network provider. However, the phone can't display my Service provider name. "MY MAXIS" in this case. It jez blank there, but the date is shown as usual. Any help with this?

Change the skin to something else, the new default V398 skin does not show the provider name to to try to avoid home screen clutter.

Ok, already getting complaints about the lack of IM instead of AIM.

Attached are a new set of menu files that will replace AIM with IM. If you want IM then use these, If you want AIM then just keep the default setup. You can use P2kTools or P2kMan to replace the existing menu files in the /a/mobile/system/ directory. Also be sure to mark them as "System" (4).

V398MP is working flawlessly for me at the moment. there's only one issue i have found so far, txt messaging in this new monsterpack is quite slower in compare to 95R_A. i'm quite sure to the fact that me and my girlfriend who has 95R_A on her phone has tested it. i have (not precise) a 1 sec. lag or so, while i dont feel any lag at all at my gf's phone. anyway, i think i can live with it. this is great stuff!

Well this MP has 95R_A too! Perhaps it is a flex related thing. It this when typing SMS or when sending SMS or what? The nice thing about this custom MP thing is that I can make improvements and release a version 2 with fixes without having to wait for Moto.

hmm some weird **** is happening to my phone.
Whenever i try to flash the thing, it tells me "TCI not initialized!" and that the Text Command Engine didnt initialize, so the flashing aborts.
anybody know how i can fix this?

nevermind, it works. my flash tool wasnt the correct version.
Im really impressed with this flex.
Its loaded with lots of goodies and has many advanced settings to play with.
Also, its fast.

alright.. so im having some problems seem editing.. i've gotten them to work before.. but either i cant find the edit on xlr8's site, or the edit isnt working.. the 3 things im tryin to fix are

1. getting rid of the 3 blue rectangles

i did this edit on the 0032 seem, but its still there
offset 40 - bit 1: Display 'GPRS Attached' icon (1 on, 0 off)

2. getting rid of the carrier name

i cant find this anywhere.. i had it before too

3. getting rid of the date

i used xlr8's blank 01a8 "nothing" seem but its still showing

these are all being used on the MacGenX skin, if that has anything to do with it (but i doubt it because my old flash/flex didnt have any problems with it)

i'm itching to flash this but i've been at work all day and my battery needs charging. only had 5 minutes between downloading and leaving for work this morning.

a quick question, i recently upped my version of PST to 7.23 (and patched it with the usual patch). will this make any difference from 7.1.1? i am pretty sure it won't and i have added a cople of skin directories with PFlex since, but i just want to be sure.

i offered to flash a workmate's E398 from .34 to this MP too. that won't pose any problems will it? i doubt it, but again, i don't want to screw up her phone. she's a hottie and turning her phone into a paperweight probably wouldn't work well in my favour

btw, eyez, i read your readme and i was wondering, does PST stand for 'phone serive tools' as your readme states, or 'product support tools' as i had always though??

1. go to the engineering menu->phone capabilities->GPRS auto attach->ON (i think. i had the same problem b4 and this is how i fixed it)

2. the carrier name is located it the plmn_text_table.bin. use a hex editor then search for the carrier name and then edit it. if u changed the amount of character used, u must change the digit b4 the name to the amount of character used.

3. if you have already used the modified 01a8 seem and it's still doesn't change then maybe the seem was not uploaded successfully into the phone. i not sure. sorry.

Hmmm... yeah... i think the flash itself didn't include the option. Any 64K SIM user here successfully display the "SIM TOOL" menu with V398?

but what are all the non-english quicknotes? i have 10. and the websessions.. i don't see a 'delete' option to get rid of them, even though they don't have the 'locked' icon??

I used to own the D500 myself, sold it because it was just to small for me, specially pressing up on the d-pad " know what i mean ? ".

RadioBirdMan: Yeah I noticed the quicknote thing last night. They actually are deletable if you press menu on the quicknote and select delete. These are slated to be removed in version 2. And I always thought it was Phone Service Tools.

Penguin_f4: 3D Phonebook was useless and laggy, and really more of a gimmick then anything usable. There are links to it if you really want it on your phone. I really didn't use slideshow either, but if if everybody here wants this one I can consider putting it in the next revision.

AlienBreed: Looking into the SMS texting issue. So far mine doesn't seem slow.

Mushpop: I think we need to keep this english.

CyberLoner: I don't think it is worth my time to remake the pack for all the languages. It is a simple thing to do to flash a differnet lang pack to your phone.

DS: Probably the best way to get rid of all the stuff on the homescreen is to edit the ski file of a skin to remove it. Then when you change firmwares you can just switch to your special skin and all the text will be gone without any seem editing.

djdano: Yeah I think 95R_A is where alot of the speed in Java comes from. The V3 flex is also fast with the UI. Thanks for the extra benchmarks.

ok, just removed all the non-Australian websessions, so i could set up 2 of my own, using xlr8's info i found using the search ...

Change the first number to "03" and the middle number to "04". (You should have 03 04 00.)
Reupload the WebSession file to the /a/ directory.
Make sure you change the attribute on the file to "4"
Restart your phone and you can now edit or delete that web session!

and yeah, i figured the quicknotes were deletable, it just had me puzzled where they came from is all. no matter.

i really like the default settings on this MP. and to wean me off the Half Life 2 skin with my own custom HL2 sounds (startup, powerdown, ringtones, message alerts, the LOT!) , is quite a task. well done!

I've noticed some bugs so far and would like you to correct them in future versions or this flash itself.

1.When I copy or move any file,it has the option to Beam the file through IR too.This is not necessary as the E398 has no IR.
2.I can't reconfigure the smart key to go from voice records to Bt link.
3.Once I master Reset/ Clear ,The default moto skin is back,But i've lost usb Settings under connections.And to top that up,AIM is replaced with IM.(I know that there's the issue of Master Clearing/Resetting with the T-flash card being in and losing the ability to choose a wallpaper and Screensaver.Please resolve this too.)
4.Whenever i try to backup the MMS templates,I get Generic Failure.The only fix is Master Clear which takes me back to Number 3 above.
5.We still have cl.gif ,not that it's a problem.
6.And BTW,what's the other file in the archive for?The the .hmg file that is.?

All in all it's one of the best i've had.If the bugs are timely fixed ,It has the potential to be THE best one around.

1] Don't know the seem edit for disable this. Perhaps you could enlighten me.
2] This can be changed to a shortcut, how is listed in one of the first pages of the thread. You give up the voice records feature for this however. Perhaps community input on this would be helpful for what we want the smart key to be.
3] Yes I've had numorous issues with doing a master clear, they all stem from the fact that the people wanted to be able to delete the extras off the phone, so alot of files don't have the "system" attribute.
4] Not sure I follow you on "backing up MMS templates" are you trying to replace the template files already on the phone?
5] Didn't notice, thanks for bringing it to my attension. will be fixed in v2.
6] Actually the HMG was a silly mistake by me. I renamed the SHX file but forgot to rename the HMG. The flash warning you can safely ignore, it would probably go away if you renamed the HMG to match the SHX file. This is to be fixed in v2.

There is a seem edit for directly turning on delivery reports, but there is also a way to turn on a menu option for it I think. If you can figure this out and let me know then I will incorporate into the next release, but I want to give the user the option on this or else default to no delivery reports.

Also, I don't see any brands.

My time is very limited lately, finals and presentations. These issues will be investigated on my time as I get it, but for now I ask for everybody's patience and help if you have the exact seem edits or other fixes.

I tried this one on immediately (since my net hiatus) since it was from eyes and all I gotta say is italy (I trust and love ya - juvenile but yeah)!

This is so GOOD!!!! So far the phone is in top shape, fast and the skin is awesome (kudos to August) I normally can delete most of the built in sounds but this is infuriating, I like most of them! I cant delete anything except for the moto ring. Did you select the best eyes? I'm having trouble deleting them hehehe overall its pretty darn good!

Replaced the mma files so I'd get the IM instead of aim, the icons changed I think, i kinda liked the old icons but I um, didnt back it up hahaha. Any way to retain the old set while getting IM? Again, thanks! This is sooooooo good!

ok.. i fixed everything that i was having problems with (carrier, grps icon, and date display)

the date kinda disappeared on its own after a while (wierd).. but its gone now so i couldnt be happier

then i had to do these edits (from another thread) to get rid of the provider name and that gprs pdp icon

ok something just ****ed up happened. i was parking my car at school. all of a sudden my phone started vibrating so i looked to see who it was. for some reason the screen was flashing black and white. so i pulled the battery and everything is fine now. im just wondering why my gprs isnt connecting it just sits there. i have the t-zones settings so dont even tell me to get em.

Nice! If you will PM instructinos on how to get it to replace the bubbles startup I'll make sure it gets in V2. Also would you mind forwarding your mma menu files to me? For some reason when I edit them I still can't get the menu to appear.

Alright I am about to something I think I might regret, but here goes.

I am working on revirsion 2 and need input. I am asking everybody to send me a PM with your vote on two items.

1 - IM or AIM
2 - Smart Key being voice records,
or Smart Key being shortcut.

Also *briefly* mention anything else you may feel strongly about that would be an improvement for the general audience, not just a feature for you personally (like a certain language).

Is V2 the Lite version? I'm using your current pack and its absolutely excellent. But I'll replace it with the Lite version for sure. I dont use a hell of a lot of what the phones capable of. I'm thinking maybe a Lite would be slightly quicker and more storage space for SMS etc? Possibly?

The amount of free memory has nothing to do with overall speed, sorry.

Also it has nothing to do with the amount of SMS messages you can store. That is a limit in the OS.

And to further the "bad news" version 2 just has fixes for the full version.

Alright everyone, here is Version 2 of the V398 Monster Pack. I tried to knock all the easy fixes out of the way, because I don't have time to track down how to fix the more complicated issues. In general things seem to be running well for everyone. Here’s a changelog of all the fixes.

* - Phone numbers are now shown with dashes, ie 1-XXX-XXXX

* - The useless cl.gif file was removed (only useful on the V3)

* - The HMG file was fixed to hopefully remove the silly MFF warning

* - “Send to my album” menu option removed

* - “Perfered Card” menu option removed

* - Smart key is still voice records. This can be changed by going to seem 005B_0001 offset 15, set the value from 2B to 15. Now it will be a shortcut.

* - IM is now included in the office tools menu.

* - A new startup.gif by Mushpop

* - The Portuguese quicknotes were removed

* - Call Guard is now off by default

EDIT: (forgot to put this)
* - Battery Saving is also turned off by default now. This should improve the microphone gain/quality.

I think that is it. Heres the link, the old version will be removed tommarow morning (EST USA)

downloading the v2 now. and i'm glad i now know how to hex edit the websessions file.
i assume i can just save my current one, with just my own 2 sessions (Optus Zoo WAP and Optus MMS) and replace the default one after i re-flash?
i think my provider might start to ask questions as to why i am constantly ringing them to resend the WAP settings to my phone. i'm on a contract and they might be a bit pissed if they knew i was flashing my (their) phone. and their stupid website-automatic-send-me-the-wap-settings-crap doesn't work.

another thing i noticed is the pictures don't have a delete option? i assume the new pictures i add or take with the camera will, but the default pics don't. i'm sure i can delete them with p2kman or mpt but yeah.

just want to add:

- the intro is awesome
- the AB skin is very nice
- menu surfing is fast, no lag
- message typing is fast
- thumbs up for the preinstalled appz and customizations. no further changes necessary (however, some stuff will have to go

)

- played the included movie, got 3 short stops during playback (at the middle, then at 3/4 and then just before ending)
- the "lumixenoscrn" image could not be loaded (got a "file too large" message)

It'll be awhile before I get the V2 of eye's pack

its pretty slow to download so I'll hang on to my version till tomorrow or something, have someone special coming over tonight and I need to shift my full attention, can't exactly botch this one as much as botching a flash

The new start-up (as I see it) is FANTASTIC! Great work mushpop!

Yeah I also get that "file too large" message with the "lumixenoscrn" file in V1. guess I could always re-edit the file in v2 or something to make it smaller.

Over all, if Moto came up with these as the start-up package in the E398, I'd figure moto would have more sales hahahaha, you have my thanks and respect Eyes, AB and mushpop!

the phone seems fine. Also found these minor stuff:

customized start up tone is visible (can be p2k'd no probs)
video playback (with teh built in video choped up 4 times, hmmm, not much of an issue since i rarely watch anything on it.)

So far thats it, everything is pretty much intact and working very well, menu speeds are great, texting is fine too. (though i noticed there's less space now than before (around 2,5xx+ megs) still will edit out Aim in favor of IM and delete a few more pics and sounds to make more space.

oh yeah, the start up logo is just normal (i mean it didnt replace the moto thingie, it just comes after the security code entry. isn't bad but I was hoping it'd replace the orig moto screen

and the beam option is still there when moving, copying files in between memory areas.

Just 2.5+ megs of space..hmmmm dats kinda bad coz too much of useless things may have been included. Ringtones can only be stored in the phone memory coz they cant be set from the T-flash card, hence, more memory would be wonderful.

Anyone tried to delete any default ringtones, pics and other thing that are included then see wats the memory space.

if you delete all the appz, skins, sounds & pics + the movie you will get the usual 7800-8000k available space. but it's a shame to delete them since many are really good...

For the errors I dont really mind, they dont seem to affect the phone.

DJ, I agree, thats kinda the reason why its gonna stay relatively in that space zone, the themes are really good, the tones as well, the video clip can go though

Thats what I just did, and, results are, I have around 3+ megs no movie just 3 games plus the mp3 player and well, I couldnt delete any of the tones, they're all darn good

i believe for some of us it would be easier to have the "naked" version of this MP, no sounds, no pics, no movies, no skins, no appz. just the bare necesities. no deleting decisions. we are not ready for these kind of decisions... lol

Talking about themes and tones......are there any new ones apart from the usual moto tunes such as Bubble, Moto etc etc..how abt the themes......usual ones u get are moto, neon, techno?

How the popping sound....is that been taken care of?.....i will be flashing tmw nite......i have downloaded it but need to transfer onto a CD.

The mp3 player is useless. The built in player is better. You can always add a playlist and let the default player play. Shuffle option is also possible. Personally i always use the built in player. Deleting the mp3 player gives some more space

And yes, the popping sound is gone like the wind. Again I agree with DJ, this one rocks, has more punch than tyson on steroids, just flash it and join us in the agony of deciding which goes and which stays

Just to note. That start up animations caused the recent 0.5MB drop. Maybe we can make it smaller, especially since the phone doesn't play the animation smooth enough to show all the frames anyways.

Also I am hoping the "naked" version will be out tonight (about 12 hours from now in my reference).

Now that you flashed your phone...forget all the files that were extracted...delete em. Only keep the ZIp one...for future use just in case

Wow!

.5 MB dats too large eyez....since the startup animation doesn't last for long and is also not smooth....we can chuck away with extra frames..meaning reduce the frames and save the file in say GIF 128 thats the web format.......using Matte options if possible to wean away those rugged edges that you see in some skin icons.

But .5 MB is too precioussssssssssssssss!!!!

Yeah they're the ones I had in the phone, they're the same for the startup and shut down, so you can just replace em on the phone or eyes could just chuck it in v3 or something

I don't know who that guy is, and I definitely don't remeber saying that.

This is being flashed all over the world, no paperweights yet. There is a small non-fatal warning that shows up in the log, but it is safely ignored.

Also there is a 96R_A reflash I made, so if for some chance you don't like the V398, then you can now go back to your old flash version.

I think the V398 startup animation should have V398 in it.

BTW, I'm out till tonight. Last two finals. 21 hours is a real killer at the end of a semester. Maybe I will learn my lesson next fall. The LITE version is looking halfway releaseable so hopefully we will see that tonight (free space at 7.5MB and stable).

Well I found the post in Motomodders so tght might enlighten everyone here. Neways where can i get this 96R_A reflash to download? Not that I wont like V398 but just incase there are issues. I have 98R reflash but frankly there is no difference in speed or anyother features (cept for AIM which is included in 98r).....I thght it wasnt available for download.

I'm here in India and the V398 mp2 u've made has dashes in b/w the numbers.I know i can correct that through a seem edit.But if you could include that in the flash, i'd be really greatful.
Also are the usb settings and aim still there when we do a master clear?

What i'm saying is that if you could be kind enough to do the following modifications in that flash for me:

1.Set default battery save to on.
2.protect usb setting and aim not to be replaced/cleared while doing a master clear.
3.the defaults in the mp v.1 were fine and i don't want numbers with dashes eg 222-555-666 etc.
4.if you could get the voice records to be deactivated and make the smart key functional and customizable.I know it can be seem edited but that would'nt be Flash and forget for me.

I hope you could find a way to take some time out and prepare this.I would be very greatful.
If not possible,please make the master clear thing in point 2 work fine.

no complaints if you cannot create a flash for just 2 options. Seem edits are fine with me.

i have attatched a websessions file for Airtel - India ( the largest gprs provider in india) maybe it can be appended to the list in the next reflash.

EDIT : hey there's a annoyning feature that i noticed. when you forward a sms it says

can you remove it ??
it was not present in my original firmware.

this is awesome, but i think im a way noob to all of this. i finally got the usb modem to work so my phone sort of shows up off and on. yeah its the e398. its like the connection is never good. i dont know if its the phone or the usb cable. it came with the phone from howardforums.com.com so it should be good. but anyways...

when i click on multiflexflash from pst 7.1.1 it just briongs up a progress bar a few times then ti says its failed or what not. It also doesnt show up on p2kman when i have the phone plugged in. Im trying to do this bad. that or i will send the phone to someone to do it or if someone is local in sacramento i need this done right away my phone goes slow sometimes. i hate it.

any advice. ive searched and read a bunch of forums but i just couldnt get it to work. its frustrating.

I would REALLY like it if aim and usb settings are still there on clear.

I still wouldnt do a master clear. Things will probably still disappear, not all together sure why.

1] I got reports that putting battery save to on will reduce the mic quality and gain, and requested that it should be off by default. If you want it on then you can still turn it on.

2] Like I said this is one of the major bugs. A master clear will make menu settings disappear and also cut you out of ringtones. Be assured when I get time this is first on my list to tackle.

3] Got (lemme check) 4 complaints about the no dashes in V1, and you are right now the first to not want them in. Majority rules on this one. Plus I prefer the dashes, and since I am doing the work, then I am get the trump decision.

4] The smart key is tricky, it is a hard and exclusive decision to make. You can't have both and we have to choose. So I took votes yesterday about the smart key. All the people who responded said they wanted the voice records and not the shortcut for the smartkey. I personally find the shortcut more useful, but I sometimes like to play with the voice recordings. But again majority rules.

BEAM] I just got a lead on the Beam option, that maybe P2kAdvance has an option for it. I will be looking into it tonight maybe.

Not to be mean or anything, but I could really care less if you "sacrificed" this firmware just because you didn't want to do a couple seem edits and put up with a menu option you hardly see. I am releasing these for the benefit of the community and not taylored to individual requests. I think its worth it and for the most part the customization on it fits the general user.

PS: I just got a Eurika about the master clear problem. I think I know how to fix it now.

Thanks for reminding me. Just for the record, is there any way i could save the settings after i've seem edited and modded the fone to my liking?
Is backing up the seems/mods Flash or flex dependent.,because i'm pretty sure i can't back up the firmware.
After backing up the flex(which i probably think is the answer to the above question)and applying it to a newly flashed fone,will i really get all the options i had backed up?
I want all of these to be ready in the flex that i back up:
1.voice rec. smart key changed to bt.
2.no dashes in the numbers
3.all default options changes to my liking
4.any othr seem edit i mite do.

Please tell me if all of the above can be backed up in the flex i make off the firmware.....

Guys, i've done master reset and the speaker has gone soft even the vol level is at 7. maybe gain table has been reset too. i'm not sure about this yet as my phone batt run out. this happened for v398mp v1. not yet tested for v2.

Well I flashed my phone from 95r_a to this and I am quite pleased with the improvements.

I have one quam though:

After a little while a red tinge comes on the screen, most notably when there is a lot of black (i.e. when playing mp3s)

I did a search and the only thing I could find was that you should keep your display time out to off, which mine is.

I did not have this problem with my any of my previous 34r, 93r, 98r, and v398 flash/flexes.

Is this an easily remediable problem?
Are any other people experiencing this?

Alright, should be a double whammie in the next few hours. LITE is finnally coming up for a release, and also I've got a V3 in the works as well because I probably won't be able to update anymore for a few days.

BTW the bandwidth got killed on the original link. So here is a new link for V2. Strongly encourage patience for a couple hours so you can just use V3 when it comes out.
