I'm kinda keen to try out the lite version. But when you say everything has to be set up manually what does "everything include ?"
If anyone has had a chance to try the "Lite Edition" maybe you could answer this one for eyesonly_d .

It means:

If you want your phone to make noise, you better put the upload the sounds on there yourself.

If you want to see a background, then you better upload the pictures.

If you want to play games, you have to own them and upload them yourself.

If you want to watch a video, then you have to upload it.

If you want a startup sound or animation, same thing, upload it.

I think you get the idea now ...

Flash version 3 and tell me what you think. I think all of the things you mentioned were addressed.

Well I did it, have used the "Lite Edition". Absolutely fantastic ! Great work Eyesonly !!!
Am just about to delete some of the Skin Folders using P2K Commander and creating my own skin folders.
Does anyone know if there is a way to hide the master clear and master re-set from the phones menu ?

Ok after upgrading to v398, the startup animation (v398) was gone after doing a master clear and reset. It now turns on like it did before, normally. I want that custom v398 startup animation back!!

Also in the pictures folder (phone) the pics are cool but one picture " lumixenoscrn " would not display and on playing it says image to large to open.

The rest - Man this thing is AWESOME!! Great work Eyesonly_d. Please keep this up and never stop!

Typing text is faster ( Tip: Set the menu to English )

The Full Version has 6 by memory. The lite version has 6 skin folders but only the one skin folder ( Tip: Use p2k Commander from motomodders to delete the now redundant skin folders in the lite verion. p2k Commander won't actually pick up the empty skin folders but to fix this ... Create new skin folders ( Name them exactly as they are on your phone ) You can then actually delete them as p2k commander places a small file in the new folders allowing them to be read by the programme.

Also you can create new skin folders using p2k Commander. ( Tip: Use p2kman to upload the new skins and any sounds etc as sometimes p2k Commander seems to get a little stuck on this )

I've also deleted ALL the mid sound files and as far as I can tell it hasn't had any adverse affects. ( I changed the alarm sound first though )

Since deleting the extra folders and the mid sounds I now have 7870 KBytes free !

Here are some Java Benchmarking results from the V398MP.

Compare it to your old one if you like, dl the java bench marking software and load it up and see the difference... most everyone agree's this is the FASTEST release out...

2.Most users in this post say it's faster...

3.Full comes with six skins , Lite I have no idea.. i will find out asap for you

Yes Version 3 full is the best choise for most users the lite version is for the extreme user who really knows what they are doing.

1.Just reflash :P to version 3, easy fix

2. lumixenoscrn is to big to be previewed just set it as your screen saver and it works fine it looks so nice.

ok,it seems to me that versions 4,5,6... are coming.
Right now im happy wit the version 1. But,am i missing on so good stuff?
I just dont want download anymore big files,because the traffic is not unlimited on my connection
OK,theres that thing as well...i have set up
the v398 animation,but then it just started to play the crappy monophonic sound instead of the kewl new sound? cAn anyone please enlightne me on this case?

Well, i was under the impression master rest on the phone was fine. Master clear is a known issue and will be fixed latter on.



My suggestion is.... just avoid master clears and resets till eyes gives a 100% okay on it. The problem with the master rest and clear will be fixed in a latter version but eyes will be busy for the next bit so dont count on that being fixed so fast like all the other issues have been they reqiure alot more time to fix.

Odd, no one else has experienced this.


My suggestion for you is firstly remove your battery and put it back in. It sounds stupid and to simple but it might just work.

Beyond that I dont see how a battry could just stop working, you will have to wait till eyes wakes up for his say on this.

i noticed that too. on 95r_a i just simply pressed hang button for a sec or less, but now i have to hold on to it for 4-5 secs to tunr it on. Good this problem got solved. One day i took my e398 on 95r to school, accidently kept turning on. luckily it was on silent, otherwise everybody could have heard it turning on several times.

The next version will not be released as fast as the last 3 have been.version 3 is fine accept the master clear and master rest, till eyes posts officaly the situation on them doing thoes two on v3 i would avoid doing either of them. Otherwize there are no other issues. And the delay holding the on button i never noticed that perhapes eyes can look into that aswell.

1. When using Multiflash in PST do we need to select the options "Master Clear after Flex & Master Reset after Flex". Also with version 3 after flashing the phone is doing Master Clear and Rest necessary, coz thats what we have been doing with other firmwares.

2. Does this V398 really need a PST v 7 or above? I am using PST 6.7 will it work?

3. I got an error when checking your phone during Flashing with version 1 of V398. "Multiflash interface error" My guess its coz of the USB. Any guesses?

4. Any seem edits to be done manually with the LITE version?

1.No, not needed just check the overridebox

2.I used pst 6.7 (had multiflash 1.8 in the package) anyhow it worked fine.

3.make sure phone is set to data mode not memory card, if when its loading it asks for drivers use

yeah.. there's still some issue when you do a master clear/master reset, one of those are getting locked out of your ring styles when you do a master reset. by the way, this problem occured in the lite version not sure if it have the same effect on the full version.

anyone knows the default tones used when you master reset the phone?

Hello everyone, lemme try to address all the concerns here.

!nF3rnuZ: I changed the way I do the custom startup in V3. Its more "standard" now and should allow you to easily mod the startup without loosing the sounds.

Everybody: I still would not do a Master Clear/Master Reset. It isn't nessesary and I am not sure why you would want to do one anyway. It you want to get rid of stuff, delete it manually or now use the LITE version.

The LITE version shouldn't need many seem edits I think. Maybe it you enabled custom startups or something, but that is all I can think of.

In MFF, the "Master Clear/Reset after flexing" option only takes effect when you do a flex (.hs file). Since we are flashing with an SHX file it doesn't matter if the box is checked or not because it isn't going to reset or clear the phone anyway.

I recommend PST version 7 or above. I once tried to use 6 and it didn't work as well for me on my machine, drivers kept gettting screwed up or something. If you have 6 working on your machine then thats fine.

Use Version 3 guys. I know I have been releasing alot lately, but this is it. There will be no more releases for at least 3+ days. I had to get another version out with as many fixes as I could before I left school. My computer at school is going down in the next couple hours and then it will be dialup internet for awhile. Also it is kinda bothering to get lots of people still complaining about bugs that were fixed in version 2.

The only two issues I know of are the Master Clear problems, and the ss file that is too big and needs replacing. Right now I just have to say don't do a master clear, I don't think that's too big of a problem for people.

Eric2k was the brains behind the website. Its really nice, and will always hold the latest versions of stuff. Its easier to keep up with the webpage than a thread I know. Props to him.

Pictures are supposed to be that way, just because people wanted the option to be able to delete them so I didn't check them as system.

Its not that the start files get deleted, it is that the seem controling the options 004a (I think off the top of my head) gets overwritten with a default that does not include the custom startup. I have been searching in the flex for where this backup is. Mainly just don't have the time right now or for awhile.

If you guys can get a consensus on what the websession file should be I'll fill gladly put it in the next version whenever it sees the light of day.

I'll keep saying, dont do the master clear, or reset, it is not nessesary.

i understand, about the pictures, some want to delete them. Leave them as it is.
Now the only concern is custom startup. no hurry man, you got us this far its rude of us to ask more, after all you aren't even getting any money for this. take your time for a week or two.

And websessions is fine. No big deal, i can create new web sessions that all. i even edited the post you quoted.

Eyesonly the "Lite" version is an absolute screamer.

I've managed to load 5 Skins 8 Large Java games and I still have over 5000 kbytes free.

Does anyone know where I can download a copy of the "drops" screensaver that's in the Monsterpack ? I forgot to make a backup copy of it before trying the Lite version...

Ok..i just wanna do a check about MR/MC. yep..some files will be deleted, seems returned to original, some menu will be back to normal. i think there's backup in the flex that eyes should look into. Yep, THX is so uncool (remebering back ol' days where mirc scripters like to use this sound until i got bored.. no offense eyes). I edit out the HelloMOTO music for my startup. sounds real cool with it's 3D sound.

Much more, in Full MP, the pictures included, some should be taken out like cat & fish, mac, space, aquarium ( maybe someone can make animation for it as ss ), high plane, a picture of a chair with seaside background (forgot the filename is).

About sounds, i think some of them are doubled like digital something something. yep, there's hidden sound with wont be viewable thru sound menu like spooky, blue earth and much more.

Java apps like MTV Fex'd, PhotoFunPack, Wakeboarding i think should be taken out from this MP.

finallap, i'm not being discrimanated but your startup kinda slow and lenghty. maybe you can get a quite funky sound to spice up our v398 on the startup.

lastly, v398MPFull v3 is better and credits to eyes and others for supporting him.

EYES.... an every one else who pitched in on this. knock up job guys. I just wanted to chime in. I got great results with this. IM rockin the Version 3 release " full " I have 1 qualm. the " chat " function is not available for shortcut. Mobile QQ as I understand is useless. Just the " chat " thing. if anyone knows how to get this option back in office tools an selectable that would be great. Other than that. I have flashed both mine an my mothers E398 with the V3 pack, she loves it an so do I. everything u could want is there. sounds..pics. Lots to choose from. Great job again eyes an all who contributed.

Video playback is even better on v398. I've just watched a full dvd of star wars on the phone and it didn't skip once. I'm still playing around with some video settings and conversion software before I finish off a video conversion guide. But as far as I can tell v398 isn't as fussy with the video settings as older versions.

Almost finished doing a video conversion guide but I'm still trying to find a freeware conversion tool that will split an avi file into smaller 3pg files.

Does anyone know if there is a way to pause video playback so you can use your phone and not have to start at the begining again ?

There's Java based video players in the pipeline but I wouldn't hold my breath

Anyone who is now using v398 will tell you it rocks !!

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate all the feedback of what everyone likes and dislikes. However keep in mind that we are looking for a general collection of multimedia that can work for everybody. However with enough feedback over the next few days we can get a general idea of what should be added and what we should cut out of v4.

BTW, I thought chat was already included, i'll slate it for the next release. You can easily edit the mma menu files using p2kmenueditor and add the option in. Also MobileQQ is used heavily in the Asian parts of the world. This firmware is being used all over the world now, and I have gotten a few requests from that part of the world to include it.

Glad everybody is enjoying it, hopefully we can get some new canidates for a startup sound posted (I agree THX gets old quick).

Does your answer about v550 compatibility refers to flex or to fullflash. I flex my v550 couple of times with e398 flex but could not conect it to the computer after that. phone was working nice but i didn't had the USB settings in my menu so i could not switch it from mass storage device (i gues it was default settings for the e398 fles in general) to P2k so i had no other solution than then to flash my phone to v550 stock. what does your work modify more? flex part or the flash part. If you do more flex modification maybe you could wright what exactle did you modify and how (if it's no big secret) and i would gladly put my phones to the mercy of flash modification and create v550 and v300 flash (phones i have) that would be simmilar to yours. i think non e398 users would like that very much.

One thing people can't exspect eyesonly_d to please everyone. As for startup sound this is my first moto so it's new to me and maybe many others, so for all those people who want something different maybe they should make there own. So maybe a how to make your own startup sound could be added in with the MP so it's still a flash and forget with a little help as well. I know there are a lot of how to's out there but they seem to be scatered about different forums so if specific how to's where included in the MP maybe you would get less people asking for their own things. just my 2p

Chat is there...it's just " only " available when u hit menu with a text message. an if you close you..you can't readily bring it back up unless the chat is continues with a message from the other person. I'll look into replacing the Mobileqq option to chat in the tools menu. I'ts there..

Sorry if you've spotted this but I'll let you in on the problem.

When you master clear, parts of the 004a seem are replaced with the 004b seem. So edit the 004b seem and you'll be fine.

Did anyone notice this? When the phone is charging and vibe sync is on, whenever I play anything through the stereo speakers it sounds really distorted. The problem goes away if I unplug the charger or turn off vibe sync.
Apart from that, this FW is unbelievably fast compared to the previous V398 flash.

Notice that instead of AIM on the home menu, it's replace with IM instead? I hate AIM, but for those that just gotta have it, it's still in Office Tools.

I myself rarely use chat, but it's nice when you get a SMS session going.

I try an log in an I get unknown carrier message. I got it working before awhile back with some extra files uploaded. ..this goes out to everyone.. anyone know the source for these ?

but it won't allow me, even though it says its changed to RING STYLE, when i press the button, it still pops up the VOICE DIAL..

Now, does anybody experienced some trouble with transflash after upgrade?

The first time I've tried to read from transflash I've got the message "transflash unformatted"; I didn't format because I've got some file that I would like to keep....

After restart, if I try to access transflash, the phone locks with the message "Please wait. Accessing device..."

Any idea?

thats justa common error.Usaually restarting the phone helps.if not,ok, format the card.no big deal.i think that it has happened to me twice,and its not because of any flash/flex.

V4 will not modify the voice recording button.. we already decided that in version 2, if you'd like to modify it do your own seem edits.

My Java mp3 player seems to take alot longer to load and it also lists the ring tones on the phone for some reason along with the songs on the tflash.Is there a way to stop it listing the ringtones. I thought it uesd to only list either sounds on tflash.

Hello again,

i just wanted to say that i tried flashing my v550 with this firmware and it works. somtimes i have a flickery display (like watching a CRT monitor on 60 Hz) but other than that everything works perfect. Don't know how it this posible but it is. I can even conect to computer because i have USB settings in my menu and can change it from Transflash (witch i dont have) to modem. I would not advise other v550 user to do this because you have to be crazy to even consider it, let alone doing it but just wanted to say it works on my v550. If you don't belive i can posted pictures. I edited it to have 8.7 MB free memory because i used my ultralite skin witch is only 230 KB (icons included). Hope to squize ot 9 MB tomorow. Again, warning: kids, don't try this at home.

i did it once to my v525 and i'm not proud of it.just the oposite. but my friend fixed it by puting an v550 chip. that's why i'm not affraid because now i know what to replace. tvrtkod: If you want customized V550 and V300, then buy me those phones! I can't do development on a phone I don't own.
Also I second what mushpop said. Like I told you in the PM you sent me, the V398 firmware is only for E398 phone. No support or consolation will be given when your phone is all messed up.

Karsini: Thanks! I took a look and you are right about 004B, fixes will be applied for V4 and hopefully it will help MC/MR work a little bit better. In general if you guys send me direct steps to fix things it makes things go SOOO much faster and I can get releases out the door quicker!

Mushpop: Nice new startup, I like it. If everybody else likes it then we should change it. PM me votes on it.

Darkspirit: Thanks for optimizing mushpop's gif.

tLv: The smart key is forced to voice records. If you want it as a shortcut then you need to apply the seem edit in the FAQ.txt file.

Soopah256,Cyburke: Yes I know many people wanted the shortcut functionality, many others wanted the voice records. I am willing to take votes on this to get input and change it if we have an overwheming majority. Just remember that the options are exclusive. If we set it to a shortcut, then there is no other way to get the voice records feature.

Toez: Well I like AIM! Lol, yes this is a similar issue to the smart key. I am willing to take votes and change if it is best.

Eric2k: Thanks for keeping up with the hosting and availibilities of the files! There is a seem edit to adjust the on button to instant on, but I have not put it in the MP because I don't want my phone accidentally turning on when I bump it into something. Also I will be looking into. Also I think the roaming issue might be a problem with AB99 skin settings of where he set certain information to show up and even to not show it at all. Ask him and see what he thinks. Also I don't have any problems placing calls, or any roaming issues.


OK, on to developments.

V4 is flowing along. Even though I am not here to post alot things are still in very active development.

Slated fixes are:

*Adding Chat to the menu
*Look into the sound distortion with charging and the builtin mp3 player
*Fix the screensaver to the proper file
*4B seem edit for fixing some of the problems with MC/MR.
* In call timer will be on by default (right now the option is enabled, but it is off by default)
*Changes pending on the results of voting

Now what I would like from all of you is to email
motov398@gmail.com
with a small simple text containing your
votes on three issues.

1] Smart key:Voice Records or Shortcut
2] AIM or IM in the main menu (the other will be in office tools)
3] Change the startup gif to the new mushpop one or keep it as is.

If you don't vote, then you will have no grounds to complain when you see V4.

Anyway, when I push the smart key (using the v3 default settings) it access the voice phone book. I thought 'voice records' was the voice recorder...

This had come up b4 with the vorice recording section of my guide so thought i would reply to it since ppl r keeping on asking it repeatedly

The 005b overides what you can select through the phone. Which is why i have deleted the mma editing portion in my guide. Sorry to anybody else who has experienced any frustration !

I just wan't to say don't be mad at me for trying your software. I think it's great. I now it's imposible to customize a software for the phone you don't have. Maybe some good people would by more then willing to contribute paypal donations for buying other models if you are willing to create the soft for them. Because as i said it's imposible to find flash and flex for v550/v620.

Now about flashing i think i am old enogh to know that if i mess up my phone i'm the only one to blame and will newer pass the guilt to you. I just wanted to say that you made almost compatible software for another phone in the proces. I know this is dangerous and i posted it along with my post so everyone would know not to do that. Hope you will continue to make more good software and that i will soon be able to afford e398 witch i want for a long time now.

About the lite version now. I think that it will look very good and work very fast with my ultralite skin (300 KB max) witch has icons included. you could make it a default skin and there will be no need to use other skins with it. It will also create more free space on the phone. In my expirience the more space i have and also the smaller skin i use (with short animation and also without animation) drasticly inproves phone speed. Think about it and let me know. I know it will not be as beautiful as AB skin but it will be much faster.

Lucky you. I tried to flash a V550 with E398's 95R and it wouldn't boot at all! The USB settings alone would be enough to tempt me to try, I wouldn't need MPT!

quick push= voice phone book
push and hold = voice record you have to keep it pushed for as long as you want to record.

that's how i fried my v525. i also used 95R and i only got bootloader. tried to flash with everything that i come up with at the time and no luck. my friend told my i erased the bootloader and that he can't get it back so he changed th chip and instaled v550. i desided to give it a try with this sutom flex because it's build from two flex files that i tried before from v3 and e398. thats how i know that that part will work (and it works even better then it was when i used the 2 flex files). the only issue was will my phone turn on after flashing.and it did. Boy i was surprised that it worked.

mine doesn't even make it past "updating music directory"

just sits there forever at about 25% on the status bar.

Mine's working fine. Just try using the default mp3 player of the phone cause it also has the same function of that java player.

Have u tried formating the tf? Use fat not fat32.

yes i notice a bug about mp3 player as it reads MP3s from both the phone memory and the TF; that is why it hang up a bit during updating coz reading many sounds in the phone memory. well, im kinda hate to format my TF. gimme minutes to find a way to fix it. well..from my last post..i hadn't sleep yet..lol..and now im getting black eyes...

As being discussed thru out the time, yes 98R is a bit better than 95R_A but it lose some E398 functionality like vibration and some of others. this MP is a combination of V3 flex and E398 95R_A which has been thoroughly tested with other E398 recent flexes. Thru benchmarking, 95R_A scores highest

Well, i haven't resorted yet what's the problem. When updating, it searches all mp3s in phone and TF memory. deleting mp3player.mdb in /a/mobile/audio wont do anything. changing j2meX.pat also do not work out. as a last result, i uninstall and re-install the player and replaced j2meX.pat to make it reads TF only. And it is a success, im not sure formatting the TF will give same result, by mean the java mp3 player will read TF only.

To eyes,

I've checked the MP Full ed. Most of the EMS file which previously be seen in picture list are now set to hidden attribute. I found it useless to hidden them as they has occupied the space. I like that guy with his little buddy expressing their moods. I've set it to attribute read-only and system and remove out hidden attribute. and eyes, from v1-3, u really forget to remove out lumixnoscrn.jpg which is a screenshot file.. wonder anybody can create a java apps or MOTO release a flex that enable us to view big resolution pics.

about v4:

1) smartkey = voice recorder and voice dial.
2) AIM/IM in main menu = no comment. i don't use it so i replace it with Connection Menu. All of those IM thingies I put it under Office Tools.
3) Rearrange Message Center Menu (Create New Message - Inbox - Outbox - Draft). It's only a suggestion.
4) Unhide those cute guy EMS file.
5) Fix Java MP3 Player
6) Cardtrick.3gp? heheheh...no comment
7) Replace THX startup sound..
8) Eyes..pleassee remove these pics:
- Higher Plane
- Cat And Fish
- Carribean

hmm.. something i just noticed yesterday, but forgot to post about it.. is there any way to make the camera idle longer without shutting off? the new MP idles for about a minute on the viewfinder while my old flash/flex would idle for 3+ minutes before going back to the main screen

To mushpup and all other users:

You can do things like this yourself ... like for (3) go into messages and hit the menu key scroll to the bottom you'll see re-order list

As for deleting pics n other media you can again do these things by yourself thro the phone or p2k or thro MPT

Every user will have their own preferences for which image/tone/feature etc they like/dislike , so customize your phone yourself.And keep in mind eyesonly_d is trying to release a MP tht will serve the whole community in general.

so why ask eyesonly_d for everything ?

Reflashed to your monster pack a few days ago, and promptly left out of town on some buisness, we'll I've experienced the following problems:
1. The camera suddenly gets a sort of red/orangish tinge all of a sudden and camera keeps switching off by itself
2. The mobile detects a handsfree occassionally when a hands free is not connected, huge problem when I'm on a call.
3. Mobile re-started twice on its own accord.

Other than these few probs its an awesome pack. Keep up the good work.

EDIT: Never Mind. Just foundanother Languagepack (0037) at MotoX which contained a working German iTAP and GermanUI.

to fix this, format your T-flash card, making sure no file on the T-flash is being used my e398's memory (ram) like a picture on t-flash being used as wallpaper or an mp3 being used a ringtone (i know you actually can't)
If it still doesn't work, format again and quickly perfrom master clear & reset. it should start working.

Once i plug my charger to the connector, it shows "Unable to Charge" & the battery sign disappeared!....but the "green light" at the side there will still be blinking as it's charging (actually it's NOT!)...
ANyone here has this problem?

i have some new comments about the MP:
1.People report that thumbnails dont display when browsing the phonebook in V3.However,they display in LITE
2.This is kinda strange,and it happened to me once,however,i cant recall the circumstances When i press [create new email] in the emailmessages menu,nothing happens (i can receive emails though).the same happens when i aproach this part from the "New message" menu. Fortunately,its in ukrainain language mode,works while in english,so no big deal

lneiln, we all know we can do it ourself. but, i'm suggesting a great MP for all of us with less customization at first hand. Other than that, im just suggesting to create a beautiful MP. If I can land my hand on cracking the flex, i do it but i dont want to fry my preciousss one. Let the master do it. It is just a suggestion not a command. If he still tend to keep those pics, im still okay with it coz i can do it myself. Only I'm recommending to beautify the MP. A modded MP should be customize to a perfection else, why we modded it where we can put a v3 and 95R_A flex ourself and customize it to our needs. In message center menu, to me and maybe others, like to reorder inbox, outbox, and even draft together for easy access, so this is why i'm suggesting the coming MP should have menu like this, yet if eyes want to keep it like a stock menu, i'm still okay with it. I'm not being sarcarstic coz i know how much times eyes has put thru modding this flex to perfection. Every of us can see how fast this MP grow. from v1 to v3 and the forthcoming v4 MP. Bear in mind please, AB99 has made this MP look cool and eyes is the only one has the access to mod this flex, so why wont we ask to make it look even cooler than previous one.

lneiln, im not having argument with you. It is just my statement why I list out my suggestion. No offence, bro. E398 is a beautiful to me, so i just want a beautiful MP for it. I never complained about ringtones and the video that eyes put in it coz yeah you know, we can customize it ourself So, in my mind and others, let this MP become a beautiful, less customization and easy MP as it is a FULL MP version. To whom that want to customize it to the max, choose MP LITE version.

If it still doesn't work, format again and quickly perfrom master clear & reset. it should start working.

So so far we are gonna change to IM, stick with voice records, and go with mushpop's new startup. If you dont like this, or you want make sure your feedback counts, please vote at motov398@gmail.com . I will be taking votes for at least one more day.

If I get alot done on V4 tonight and look into everything I want to, then a v4 release could be tommarow evening (EST). I will have to take a trip to the coffee shop to have enough bandwidth to upload the file. It will probably be a yousendit.com thing and I will depend on everybody to get it on mirrors. So far you have all done a great job with this.

Now to my replys on the comments.

I dont have a problem with unhiding the EMS files, unless bunches off people start telling me here or on the email that they don't want this.

DS: I'm not sure how to increase the camera time. You can look at a seem from it being long (or send it to me) and compare it with the current V398 one and start clicking the bits that are different and narrow it down to which one causes the difference. If you find this out send it to me and I will make sure it goes into v4. I will be able to spend alittle time looking for it too.

lpeai: I have never heard of this problem. The "charger" problem I *have* heard of is the speakers distort more when the charger is in, which I am looking into. BTW if anybody has a fix for this PM me or email me.

Mushpop: I know you don't like the pics. I heard you the first and second time. The things is those were the pics that the general people liked when they messed with my phone. And lneiln is right, you can delete them. I do want to include some extra backgrounds other than the stock ones, so if you think you have some better ones that would suit a general G rated audience, PM me or email them to me. Don't wanna really clog up this thread with pics.

BTW, for the guy who wanted to set the smartkey to ring styles shortcut. Did you know that I put the shortcuts:
Menu+3=loud
Menu+6=Vibrate
Menu+9=Silent
With these it is quick and silent to change between sound settings without having to navigate the ring styles menu or repeatedly press the volume keys. I use this setup and I thought others would like it as well.

I'll be checking posts again in a few hours, this 56k lifestyle is very different for me.

Try taking your battery out and putting it back in well the phone is unplugged from the charger. This has worked for me and a few others who had same problem sounds stupid but it might just work for you also.

about the sound getting too soft when you do a MC, it's all because vibe sync will be set to off after performing MC but you can turn it on again and voila* bass is back again.

Speaking of bass, has anyone noticed that the bass has become less after flashing to the MP? This is the first time I did any flashing. Is there a way to turn it back up? Also, it looks like my the Carrier Name (tmo, cing, att, etc) is not shown, but I don't know if that's part of the skin that I'm using. Also, does anyone know where I can find the original ringtones that came w/the phone?

hmm.. maybe this is a network problem, but my texting isnt working correctly. (yes, i did the tmo online configurator thing but it didnt fix it). i can receive texts fine, but i cant send any (the status says sent successfully on the message icon, but the other person never receives it ). any ideas? is it possible to use gprs to send outgoing texts while keeping the normal incoming text settings or gprs alltogether?

sms works fine. i made no changes to the sms configuration, using the default settings. gprs not used. might be a network error...

Bass Volume, don't know about mine, the volumes kinda' low even on 7. Know that's an issue....

All i can say about this is that Vibration is poor on my V398. But i had that with my original Firmware before.

Music Playback itself is good in my opinion.

yes i also notices the volume being a little softer, actually the Vibe sync being softer then in any other firwares. But used Beztools P2k and increased the volume. No issues now but the interesting this is the vibrating has also increased. If the phone is in vibrating mode, the vibe is quite loud now.

Yes i've now notice it too. I've always had " melllo Moto " ringtone, on previous versions always it used to sound heavy, and fat (don't know if its bass i'm talking about) and now its like crystal clear, thin. That bassy feeling is no more. I've played other mp3's, and its showing the same effect.

Yes thats bcoz of the vibe sync option. If it is turned on the mp3 will sound heavy as the vibrations are produced when bass sounds are played. But like I said if you increase the gain_table then you will get a higher volume. It will also depend on the type of mp3 u are playing and the way it is recorded. Try to increase the bass frequency and then play it....you will get that heavy sound and the case will creak.

yeah, exept that vibe sync is turned on, i am getting vibration with a little bass.
there is a big bassy difference between 95r_a (and other flashes/flexes) and v398 with vibe sync ON.

All I can say, this is an issue of this V398 MP. one of the issues actually. Maybe this is V3 flex operational setting coz V3 do not have dual speaker like E398 so the sound setting should be less bassy. Anyway, you can turn it on a bit using xoclipse's Mototool in gain_table.bin or hex edit gain_table.bin ( lneiln's howtos ). I increase 1 step and it sounds really loud at level 7. Do not set it too high else you speaker will be thrown out from the phone.. .

Again, I suggest to other n00bies not to perform MC and MR after you have flashed the phone with this MP coz some settings will be gone. If you really want to, backup all the seems and setting files (mma_ucp/dcp, gain_table.bin, Websessions, and other files like sounds and pictures) first.

Distortion issues are the focus of my work now. I got all the other simple fixes and some of the more advanced ones in the current V4 beta. Still not sure if we will see V4 tonight, but I hope so. I would rather wait an extra day and have everything I want fixed then release early with issues. It looks real good so far guys.

Thanks for the votes guys, we seem to have overwhelming majorities for Voice Records on the Smart Key, IM in the main menu, and the new mushpop startup; so that is what V4 is going to be.

BTW, I had someone PM'd me offering to pitch in to buying me a RAZR so I could mod firmwares for it. I was flattered, but I told him that I think MotoX had that modding relm covered and I wasn't sure there was much room for me.

BTW, its nice to be able to focus almost exclusively on this after work instead of having to share with finals and stuff. I think this release will show that.

BTW, I like the new upgrades to the forums. Thanks to Howard and all others involved.

I can't get the distortion sounds to show up when its charging. I did change quite a few seems and settings, but nothing that I would think effects the sounds/speakers. I plug in the charger and I don't notice any difference. Maybe those noticing the problem can go into more detail or give me some exact steps to reproduce the problem.

I really like the new startup. ... ... Thats all I am going to say.

Master Clear seems to work now (knock on wood). I've done it a few times and everything sticks together, again I don't notice any loss in sound quality or even it getting lower. Again if someone with the problem can give me more details. I think I'll try flashing back to V3 and try to reproduce it from the software you guys are using.

Also so far I couldn't figure out what seem controls the camera timing.

Doesn't look like a release tonight, so probably tommarow. Want to hear back from folks about this distortion thing.

PS Looking at my post count (now at 397), it looks like I gotta celebrate and make the next post really cool.

Mate your a !@#$ing Legend,I just uploaded the lite version last night and it is perfect,i had to do a little editing(got rid of non australian web sessions and removed the ringtones and that 1 wallpaper that was with it) in there but i cant complian at all,my phone runs like a bullet,i can really see the diference.I have played with it all night and this mornning and i havnt found a problem with it yet(knock on wood).

is it possible to have a menu for an equalizer? maybe some predefined settings like "techno", "jazz", "live"? i know it's a really long shot, but wierd stuff has happened before...

I flashed to the lite version straight away. It's freak'n awesome ! The only thing I got rid of was a) the empty skin folders b) all the mid and mp3 ringtones c) the websession file d) replaced the gain table with an old one d) replaced the text table.

Haven't had one problem with it yet and i've filled the memory card with simpson episodes and mp3's, now only have simpson ringtones uploaded 3 skins and filled the phones memory with games and apps (20 so far ).

The sound distortion hasn't been an issue though the first thing I did was replace the gain table so maybe that's why ?

Eyes, you've done a great job. I'm sure if somehow in your modding frenzy you manage to turn your phone into a paperweight you'd have a heap of people pitching in to get you a new one.

You know,i agree up to a point.I think that gain_table is more than just a few scrollers.but its not connected wit firmwares from my point of view.its a file,you can see it from p2k programs and stuff,which means that its a part of the flex.which means that either firmwares control the sound,or firmwares have nothing to do wit the sound,and its all under gain_table's control

I will agree with eyes there is really more to the gain_table than just a way of increasing sound output. I noticed when I notched up the slider to 3 for ringtones, the vibration also got increased. You can now hear the vibration along with feeling it .

The flex i think has something to do with it coz in my earlier firmware (98R/GIKE) the vibe sync was really pronounced when the gain_table was increased. Now one more thing to notice is, I made a mp3 with bass almost cutout, with the gain_table increased you can still hear the bass in e398. I dont know if i make sense thats the best!!!!!!! Not a philosopher like !nF3rnuZ

Eyes how did u come to the conclusion that the gain_table may have settings separate for bass, treble etc.?
