ok i just want to try to roll back the the original e398 setup... is that a flash i can download somewhere? i tried searching but probably not with the right keywords, if anyone has the link that would ROCK!

i think this flex is the V398's flex.

i've flexed to GIKE and GSKE but after flashing the V398 on, it returns to the SE73 flex.

I have used the MP for a few days now and extremely happy with it.

Yesterday I happened to stumble over a small issue. The MP apparently does not show the service operators name. But on a short trip go Germany yesterday I found that it showed TELMORE (my service operator name) and no date !!! Also TELMORE is a pure danish operator, so I would have expected to see the german roaming operator.

No problem really, just a curious experience :-)

Thanks again, I have just flashed my phone with the 98R LP 002C and it works just fine. The iTAP_User_Dictionary are the same size (E398/V398) so I am leaving that alone. Apparently that information is stored elsewhere. And I have no problem with having to 'teach' my phone some words again :-)

after flashed my e398 to V398 every thing goes fine . last day i tried the new "shoey's i398" . after flex and flash i restarted my mobile. then i made some calls too. again i restarted the phone to activate the GPRS. thats it .the phone doesnt turned on back. its dead. only its turning on in BOOT LOADER MODE.

I WANT TO GO BACK TO V398 . WHAT SHUD I DO

in case you made a backup using ramldr, you can go back; just read the instructions from this thread

if you didn't make a backup, then there's no way to go back AFAIK. try flashing sh03y's beta MP again or wait a couple more days until he releases the final version.

Just flash your friend's backup If he has the same h/w version of yours. If he don't, then don't flash it or you can make your phone go to deep sleep...

Try V398 MP or i398 MP instead, if you can get to boot screen.

does the phone powers on? if it doesn't try to pres * + # + power to go on the boot screen. If it still dead there is nothing left to do. take it ta moto service center.

I spoke to soon guys,

I have run into some trouble after I flashed my E398 to v398

For some reason... my outgoing calls are failing .. every call ends with a CALL FAILED.. when i hit retry ; 50% of the time it will redial and make a connection but other times it keeps on saying CALL FAILED...

Also most disturbing is that when I call my cell number from my land line.. my phone doesnt even ring.. i hear one dial tone and then it goes to my answering machine...

What the heck is going on.. I am very upset .. the phone is in good working order.. so I just hope this is minor settings issues.. Network perhaps?

I am using Rogers Wireless as a provider..

What do i do guys?

Hey I am on Rogers Wireless as well and lost my outgoing and incoming call functionality ... Eyezonly told me to seem edit out the 850 but.. I dont even know how to do it..

he said to seem edit : offset 50 - set bit 0 to off

Did you try to do that already and it didnt work?

I need my phone back

This is correct..

I cannot receive incoming calls... or make outgoing calls 90% of the time... all that comes up is CALL FAILED .. and when i dial from my land line to my cell... the phone doesnt ring and i hear one dial tone then straight to my voicemail.

I am on Rogers wireless .. what are you on?

I was told to stay away from the i398 for now.. as I am new to modding it might be a little complicated... eyez only MP was very simple and easy.. I am just mad that I get absolutely no connectivity even though my signal strength is HIGH.

The 850 is messing things up!!

as i said, i think there is a hardware problem with my phone.

however, 9CR, V398, and every single E398 flash i could find WOULD NOT WORK ON ROGERS!

before with the other flashes, i can get full signal, but it's always "emergency only" or "call failed". try the I398. SOMETIMES is better than no times! lmk if your phone performs a-ok (i'm in toronto and on rogers as well).

no, it's not a bug, the datebook will always show you only 8 hours. if you change the first hour to 6, it will show you the 6:00-14:00 interval.

flashed a girl from work's e398 with this on thursday and she's totally stoked with it. her sw version was .34 before i flashed, same as what mine originally was, and asked me if i had more than 20 sms on my phone. when i told her i had around 60 odd messages and 3/6 bars in the memory meter she gave me the phone then and there!

i had it back to her friday morning, along with a bunch of games loaded, her phone book, websession and photos all back on the phone (also backed up to a cd) and some Family Guy and American Dad episodes on her Transflash.

does anyone have problems when trying to use the "save all seems" feature from p2k tools or p2k man?

my v398 gets restarted every time at 15-20%. I flashed back v398 and the issue still remains. should that worry me?

Correct the V398 monster pack more or less screws up all reception on Rogers/Fido

I did not notice it at first when i was beta testing but.... the bugs are

1.When charger plugged in vibe sync is messed
2.For rogers/fido 850 does not work... and it mess's up the other bands more or less...
So my solution is to revert back to something else.

If rogers users need help pm me, I have a solution. I will also upload the Monsterpack replacment/flash replacment that will fix your phone with some decent software.

There are some other bugs on the v398 software but I have forgotten the 2 bigs ones iremember where vibe sync and reception going down the *******s/droped calls/not being able to place calls half the time.

Yeah had the reception problem, but fixed all that with I398 MP. Now have quad band and reception is amazing, even in my dungeon of a basement where I had no signal. I am usually ranging about -60db to -70db in the city which is pretty good. The maddest seeg I've received was -25db out in the country. I made a call right there and then and it was super clear.

By the way how did you fix the V398 for canadian users?

I tried the V398 and never got it to work right on Orange. I "restored" with the Hijacked flex and it seems to work great but I can't recieve text messages. I can send them just fine but can't recieve. Can anybody help me out?

V398 worked perfectly as it promised, been working for the past 3 days and I love it. Kudos to all the people who worked on it. One little question, how do I get the carrier name to display?

It might be irrelavent since I may go for the i398, will post to let you all know how it goes.

You may need to switch to another theme. Transblue and maybe invXenon don't show the operator logo. The stock skins (like techno, moto, and neon) do show the operator logo for sure.

Excellent work. Boy, I had to read a lot of threads to gain the confidence to flash for the first time.

A question that I didn't come up in the numerous pages I've went through, is there any way to turn off the intro sound?

I updated my e398 to a V398 V4 about 3 weeks ago and what a freaking awesome difference. Most notably was the speed increase everywhere on the phone, especially the messaging area. Theres a whole bunch of new features that make it that much more worth while.

Only thing is that I don't get a reminder if I got a message or a missed call anymore and I can't seem to get the "Mobile QQ" to work at all and some of the auto text formating is also a bit dodgy but in overall this was a huge and worth while Upgrade. I do feel the need to try the I398 now.

just delete de Cust_Start~up.mp3 from /a/mobile/audio, or replace it with one of your choice but with the same filename.

Ok only issue, I've noticed sometimes I get a very weak signal. Anyone else notice this? I'm sitting at home right now and I'm getting zero to one bars. Other times I'm getting the regular full bars. I don't know if this issue is related, but my service provider is Cingular, but the phone says AT&T. I know they merged, but didn't know if this was normal or related to my signal problems.

hi, i've updated my phone to v398, but the icon of gprs is different then the older (on original e398), the original icon have two squares, now, have 3

the websessions settings are ok, but what's the problem, why the icon is different

Thank you so much, and you're absolutely right, the Transblue and invXenon don't show carrier, the rest of them do.

I'm so happy with my phone now on V398, a lot faster than before, great work! Now I won't regret I bought Moto.

One question I think it's more generic rather specific to this model, any way to force into a carrier other than your subscription carrier in home area? I have T-mobile now, at work the glass building kind of blocked most of the signal, while Cingular has jacked up their in-building signal (310-410) ever since they moved into our building. I don't see this 310-410 on my available networks list, only 310-170 priority 22 and 310-150 priority 25 for Cingular. Could I just add 310-410 to my network list and make use of it? I don't get charged for roaming, now my phone shows Emergency Only in building. Another benefit of V398 to have 850MHz covered to enable you to "see" more!

Guys, anyone else have this problem? I love the speed of the menus and the customization, but if I can't make phone calls..

isn't cingular running on 850? v398 is not quad-band, only i398 is.

Under "Technology" it says quad band GSM. :dunno:

Btw, under the Network Setup menu, what does the "speed" (slow,med,fast,continuous) mean? Also, under "band" I have it set on Automatic (Automatic, 850/1900, 900/1800). I'm guessing it's best to leave it on Automatic?

The only reason why I'm asking about the signal issue is because I didn't have an issue on the old 9AR flash the phone came with. Coincidently, the service provider now says AT&T Wireless instead of Cingular for some reason. Not sure if that's contributing to the problem or not.

eyesonly, I'm trying to make my own MP and at this point I'd like to ask you a few questions about files:

1) Why there are so many duplicate images in V398 ?(Passion.jpg, Sapphire.gif, Silver.gif, Silver.jpg, Moto.jpg are also found under wp_* or ss_* names either in 'picture' or directly in 'a' and are not referenced either in theme files nor in skins).
2)Why did you use the 44 file attribute? Isn't the phone just fine after master clear/reset if I set it to 04? And aren't all the 02 and 00 files in 'a' gone for ever after master clear/reset ?(some of them are 04 in original moto flex and it makes me wonder why did you change their attributes)
3) Also, sometimes the owner of the file is different from the original flex. I mean 07 0004 has the owner 07 (USB cable) while 02 0000 or 03 0000 have different owners. What do you know about the issues implied by this?

V398 does have 850MHz band, you can see that from Engineering/FTS turned on. I guess my previous post was more related to SIM card restriction, if you bring the phone to NC/SC where T-Mobile does not have coverage and the SIM will allow you to ride the roaming partners, one of them being Cingular, either on 850 or 1900. Now in home area, I do get Cingular 850, but for "Emergency Only" calls.

i flashed it and i dont think the 850 works. i am normally on 850 with cingular and when the phone goes to 850 i get no reception at all. but it says im connected to the 850 network. it looks like it just thinks we have 850 but the phone really doesnt work on 850 with the v398.

i got the 850 working.... i am registered to cingular on 850 !!!! i had to use the flash enabler from shoeys i398 upgrade i flashed with it turned the phone back on to go to the next step and bam there it was registered to cingular almost instantly i could not get it to do this the entire day. i tried it three times to see if it was a fluke. restored from backup to v398 then with the flash enabler and same results each time without the preflash i would not register to cingular at all only cingular wireless which is 1900 here.

what i did was this: and i do not know if this will work on all of the e398's as i only have mine to test with.

from e398 i flashed to v398 easy enough. (i made sure to do a backup though)

after this i went the whole day feeling like i wanted to throw this phone in the trash cause the reception was horrible here on 1900. i got home tonight and decided to go for the i398 but had some second though onlys due to the number of current problem with it.

i decided to do it anyway.... i hooked up the phone on opened the moto flash program and did the first shoey step of flashing with the "flash enabler" from his monster pack. this shut the phone off. in his instructions he says to unplug the data cable and turn the phone back on at this point. well i did that and bam instantly 4 bars of service where i didnt have 1 in my house before, to make sure this was what did it i restored the backup and started over and tried this a total of 3 times with the same result each time. the phone is identical they way it was as the v398 no difference at all but i have 850 now. im charging it up now all that flashing killed the battery. but before i plugged it in i tried changing networks a few times and it read 100% no roaming and full bars on the phone and reception is perfect!!!

Sorry to let you guys down, but 850 does not work with the V398 MP.
It lets you receive signals but not actually connect. Now the hardware is there, and if you flash to I398 MP you will activate the 850.

I now have quad band on my I398 now. If you guys want quad band and more I recommend flashing the I398 MP. You won't regret it.

It lets you receive signals but not actually connect. Now the hardware is there, and if you flash to I398 MP you will activate the 850.

I now have quad band on my I398 now. If you guys want quad band and more I recommend flashing the I398 MP. You won't regret it.

Neo519, this is what I just did and I think you're right. I borrowed my colleague's Cingular SIM, and put it into the V398, and the phone showed full bars on 850MHz and Cingular name, but test call failed, no call can be made even it's registered no problem on 850.

Anybody knows how to force a phone to roaming mode to utilize another carrier's stronger signal when the "home" carrier signal is too weak?

dso what i said to and youll be able to use the 850 for phone calls, take your v398 and flex the shoey flash enabler over it and youll have 850.

I've just successfully went from i398 to e398 backup to v398 with zfactors 850 workaround no problem. LOVE THE SPEED ... right now I could care less about itunes, and no more glitches except ONE:

KEYPAD LIGHTS.... when im scrolling through menus they are randomly coming on and off when i do any keypress...

Anyone know what might be causing this? and / or how to fix it??

I did, flexed the pre-flash enabler on V398, tested the same way by inserting a Cingular SIM, registered and test call went through! Thanks guys, I'm happy with and will stay on V398 for a while until the limitation of video recording (on 512MB TF) and iTunes fixed.

Try using the funlight.pat file from the original e398 (hopefully u were smart and made a backup) or try turning VibeSync off.

also does anyone know the seem edit for enabling ens for cingular off the top of thier head??? my wifes e398 gets horrible reception on cingular for some reaon but awsome reception on att wireless. and the funny thing is on att wireless she registers to an 850 tower and on cingular she registers to a 1900 tower???

should this work for a cingular sim. my att sim works fine with this already it switches between cingular and cingular wireless perfect but hers is just locked to cingular when i switch to att i get on a 850 tower perfect and have full 5 bars. but on the cingular for whatever reason i cant explain it registers to a 1900 tower and i have only 1 bar?? what do you think

zFactor thats what ive been saying all along... been a major problem for me I actually paid mr moto saver to do get this pds fixer program based on my IMEI and it still doesn't work

funlights and keypad lights are MESSED UP... from my experience your phone is officially stuck with it... no matter what Ive done i couldn't fix..

no i used the backup i made with flashbackup and all is fine now. then i re-flashed with the 9cr by itself, then flashed the v398 over that and then flexed the flash enabler and all is fine now. no more light problems.

by the way if you have the vibe sunc turned on it will not remember your funlight settings, but according to moto this is normal anyway.

no under any firmware it doesnt matter. according to moto if the vibe sync is turned to on then the lights automatically revert back to off you cant change them to anything else. if you turn the vibe sync to off the lights canbe set to work as normal.

no it doesnt matter at all doing any kind of updates. it should work fine no matter if its on or off during flashing. you may have an odd case where the phone has some issue with the updates. not sure yet im still working with some of the guys on the new v398 v5 mp. one of the phones had a issue similar to yours but reflashing to a backup then back to v398 worked perfect no more problems

Yes very wierd even since I have 850 working permanently now... regardless of what flex/flash/backup and PDS moto_saver restore I have done...

Guess time to junk the phone.. i know its trivial but it annoys me to the point where im about to smash in on the floor

they are supposed to be exactlt the same phone, the rokr may have a faster proccesor but no one is 100% sure yet. other than that the only difference is the firmware

The phone is listed on cingulars website now as the Motorola ROKR E1. In the specs it says

Display: 176 x 220, up to 262 colors TFT. So does this mean the display is better or is it probably still just 64k?

Hey eyesonly, I've just flashed to your V398 pack (I think it's bloody brilliant). Everything works flawlessly except when I personalize my Smart Key. I can personalise all of the keys to what I want (Up,Down,Left, Right etc.). But when I go to change the Smart key it says that it is set to my choice but when I press it, it always opens as the default Voice Names link. I had customised it before I flashed and it had worked.

first did you install the drivers?? they need to be installed.
second if you did install the drivers. turn your phone off. then turn it back on while at the same time holding down both * and # buttons. you will see a "bootloader" screen now try it it should work. but it will only work as stated if you installed the moto drivers.

and to sinner. try either reflashing it it should still work i have not ever seen this as a problem on any of the phones i have done. if that does not work use the pktools or pk menu editor and use the keypad setting to change around the keys. but personally i would do the flash again first.

Does the phone have to be in bootloader mode? I tried it this way in MFF briefly and it showed up as Neptune. Is that right? It still would not connect in P2kTools.

you cant flash back msmp3 without your original backup you should have made before flashing to i398. if you did make this backup then use flashbackup and restore it and you are done. if you did not make a backup sorry to say you are kinda out of luck

and to wastegate have you vhecked to ensure you have the lastest drivers installed?? and yes for pst and multiflashflex to recognize the phone some of them must be in bootloader mode. this is not supposed to be the case but i have seen a few that just do not get recognized at all period unless the phone is in bootloader mode. wish i could say why. but yes you would see neptune

Well I got it to work. Bootloader mode did it for me. Eyes, the MP is great! I've only looked at it briefly but everything works and is a lot quicker than it was before. My next question is will MPT still recognize my phone as an E398? I'm going to try it real quick to re-up my wallpapers and ringers.

open it up and set it to 32 not 16, then pick your backup file from your hard drive where it wants you to and make sure to set it to full backup if you made a full backup or pds if you made a pds backup. then click restore. easy as can be

Love the speed of the new software but ever since flashing reception at my house has been horrible. Whenever I get the Roam triangle and am on AT&T my phone doesn't ring when people call and I get the Call Failed message on nearly every outgoing call. What's up with that?

I'm on the Cingular network and I believe I had the exact same problem. I even posted about it in this (long) thread. I think I solved the problem by using zfactor's 850mhz band solution.

Hi, whenever i try use the motorola flash tool it crashes, i have XP media centre sp2 was using PST 6.7 and tryed running it in 2000 compatibility mode but still crashes and errors out.

I'm just about to throw this POS out the window. MFF won't recognize my phone unless it's in Bootloader mode on my computer so I tried it on my mom's comp. MFF recognizes the phone but everytime I try to Flex the Program errors and needs to close. I also tried Flexing using PST with the same results. Is there anyway I can erase all memory of my phone ever being connected to my comp so that I can go in and reload the drivers again so that it may be recognized on my machine? I've gone back to my LG simply because I can't stand the reception, or lack thereof. Anybody wanna buy a near mint v398 with all original packaging and accessories?

Alright guys, after finally using this wonderful MP for a few months, there's a problem with it. I don't know if anyone else experienced this, but I can make calls, but I can't receive any calls. I can't even receive text messages. I tried the master reset, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know if this has anything to do with the software, or is it the phone? I don't have the cable with me, so I can't reflash it to try it again.

Are you sure it's 'months' and not 'days', because i too have the same problem, I can make calls, but recieve any, it goes straight to voicemail when someone dials my number. Texts are also gone. I called up T-Mobile, and the rep told me, that the server my account is on is having some problems, and he said he has no idea when it will be fixed. He said its hopefully by the end of this week. Hope that helps!

Bought the e398 yesterday....jus wondering how much time to wait before i flash it.

Having a small problem though......after transferring mp3's .....the 'sounds' section shows up as empty.....and only after clicking either * or # can i see the list of the songs under 'UNFILED'......cos of this even the mp3 application is not displayin these songs

I have the E398 and when putting mp3 in the card and start playing it, it will play for 40-45 sec. after that is telling me that it have a system error, and when I try to play another file, it will tell me the file is corrupted. I have to restart the phone in order to get in to the card again. At first, I tought it was the bit rate of 192kbps so I put it to 112 kbps but it still doing the same. Maybe is the kind of format I'm downloading it. I'm using it straight from Itunes. Can you tell what is the problem with my phone?
2. The other problem is that I'm trying to erase the default ringtones and I have download 2pk but it will not recognize my phone and is telling me is disconnected. Can you help me?

what bitrate are you using? make sure it's no more than 192kbps, 128 is just perfect.

use the built-in player, you can make playlists and hide it.

or search for the java mp3 player (i believe 5.00.17 is the latest).

from my previous experience with this MP you can add skins, and the icons will be replaced but only if the skins have new icons.

use p2kcommander to create a new directory and then copy the skin files.

Thanks Eyesonly_d, I was having reception problems with my E398 here in Fla on Cingular, now after flashing with this MP it's the best reception I have ever had with any phone, oh and all the bells and whistles that have been added are icing on the cake. Thanks again.

i dont want aditional skins.. i want to mod my moto skin..
no aditional skins = big memory

i'm having a lot of problems with itunes as well, i think its the digital rights management. have you noticed two files showing up

EX:

Such Great Heights 1
._Such Great Heights 1

The first one is the song, but the second one takes up no space (supposedly,) doesn't play music, and can't be deleted unless the song is removed from TF via computer?

i'm running on a mac, but has anyone else seen this? or know what it is?

thie happened to me when I had the e398, monthe ago, you need to format the tf card, with the phone. then it should work.
now I am using the E1 rokr, i don't have the problems.

I'm also new in modding phone. Yesterday I managed to flash V398 to my handphone. What you need is a usb data cable and some program. Go check eyeonly website for a guide and I think it is very easy.

Forgot the answer your question, yes, for eyesonly's V398 monsterpack, you still have the motorola mp3 player. But I don't know about others.

I too have the E398 on the t-mobile network. The phone is customised for t-mobile. It has 4 softkey buttons instead of the standard 3 beneath the screen. The middle two are the menu button and the t-mobile browser button to start wap. Will this monsterpak go on mine?

Also, is it possible for me to backup the current software incase the monsterpack fails to work on my phone?

I flashed the monsterpack to my E398B (Blackeyed Peas Promo version with 4 menu buttons) It works great, the extra button still works as well. The menu lag is non existent now.

Its like a completely different phone now!!
By the way, what are the default passwords in security settings?

I just flashed eyesonly monsterpack to my e398.
I sent the wap enhanced settings from the virgin mobile website. Saved ok. I then sent the wap csd which saved ok. then i sent MMS settings. It wont let me save them because it says the websessions are full. I cant seem to delete any of the websessions that come with the monster pack? Can I reflash the monster pack again so i can start over and just send the wap enhanced and mms, forgetting the wap csd?

Also, anyone know website to get e398 housings other than ebay? I am in uk

Any update on this situation? I did some googling, but all I found were dead links and instructions on building plugins from scratch (which I don't get really).

Has anybody gotten the v398 v4 pack to work with iSync? (most specifically, iSync 2.2 that was updated with 10.4.6) And could you post any changes you made to the MetaClasses.plist?

NO, first restore your R372 firmware, then flash over that. eyes_only is a 372 based firmware; for pre-ROKR phones.

I just upgrade my sim card to 64k per cingular request and now my V398 does not work and I can't go back using my old 32k sim card that has been working until this morning.
The problem is that when AT&T wireless signal appears, my phone does not working at all. I can't make a call or receive a call, but when cingular wireless signal appears my phone is working fine.
Does anyone here that has eyesonly's version has this problem?

bty94, I'm not in your area so can't speak for it, just my thought to share. I know Cingular is decommissioning AT&T Wireless and consolidating to one service Cingular only. It sounds like you're in the intrim stage of decommissioning process, maybe the radio is still on air, but backhaul facilities may have gone. As long as you have coverage on Cingular, either 850MHz or 1900MHz, you're fine. AT&T Wireless will disappear. On my phone, it now sees only T-Mobile and Cingular, used to be 3, including AT&T Wireless.

What network setting do you have on your V398? and which one are you set it to?

My understanding is, Cingular is running on 850 and 1900 MHz, while T-Mobile is on 1900 only, so 850/1900 band is sufficient, mine is by default automatic. You'll need to set to 900/1800 or automatic when you're overseas.
