I bought a KOI in the states on the Cricket network. Ended up moving back to Canada and I am now on the Telus network.
I wanted to know if there was any way to change the phone over so I can use it on the Telus network.
If I do will I still be abel to send data or will it just be a phone and thats it?
I don't want to have a $300 phone book sitting around my house. PLEASE HELP!!

I don't know about tellus, but if it were verizon, just bring it to the store and have them put the Tellus firmware on it. Much easier so you can have all of the features unlocked and not need to input all of those codes...thats my input and good luck

I don't think Telus will do that.
I will have to check though.
Is there any way to get the firmware installed by another means?
(I have no idea how to change anything on my phone by the way)

Unless the phone is TELUS branded, it will not work on the TELUS network, because it is limited by electronic serial numbers. Only phones sold by TELUS would be in the database.
Of course there are always exceptions to the rule (i.e. knowing someone who maintains that database, etc.), but in general, you're pretty much stuck with a $300 phone book.
I've always wanted to experiment and do exactly what it is you're trying to do with that KOI and bring it from the USA to TELUS. A datacable is a good start, but it also requires other software, which may or may not even work on that model.
Do you live in the Toronto area by any chance? If so, maybe we can work on that together.

Oakville actually.
I would love it to work, but I just bought the LG 6190. So, right now I would rather just sell the damned thing and be done with it. Until then, you are more then welcome to try whatever you like on the phone.

I'm actually from Mississauga myself.
Do you have the data cable for it?
If so, then maybe we can try a few things on it, and see if we can get anywhere.
Bring some hope to other TELUS users like myself.

Here's the deal with phones going from network to network (and my story as well I guess.) Kellan, what you need to do is this: First, register your ESM with Telus. With Verizon you can do it right online, but you may need to go to a store with Telus. The ESN is like the MAC address of the phone. As far as I know, all service providers provide service to phones within a certain ESN range and that range is dependant on the phone model. If Telus supports the KX2, which it does, then you will be able to use your phone.
The second step is to find out what the SPC on Telus phones are. I know, I know, you bought it with cricket. Thing is that when the phone is auto programmed over the air, the auto program feature uses a specific provider SPC that must match your phone's. If it doesn't then you can't program the phone and it won't work. So, what you will need to do is change your current Cricket SPC to Telus' default.
Third step is simply over the air programming. That should take care of it.
My story is that I bought a Telstra or Telus (I forget) and use it on the VZW network. So, like I said, it's quite possible to jump from one network to the other. You just need to be aware of how the network operates.
Hope that helps.

The ESN on the Koi cannot be registered on the TELUS network because of their policy, and the KX2 is not supported by them because they do not sell that model.
If only you had the data cable... Why not buy a cheap one online, and then if all else fails, sell it with the data cable?

Then that's the answer. If the KX2 is not supported by Telus, that's the end of the story. If the KX2 was, then you would be able to use it. That was the point I was trying to get across -- I guess we were saying the same thing.

Well I have some tools that may be able to get it activated on TELUS, but I won't know till I try, and I need a data cable to use with the phone to test it.
