Blackberry as PIM?

Hey guys,

I am interested in selling my Dell Axim x50v and Motorola in favor of a more converged unit. I am considering the Blackberry 7100g with Cingular and would like feedback on how the calendar functions are. How easy is it to access the calendar? I am sure that the PIM functions of a Blackberry would probably not be as extensive as a PPC, but is the difference negligible or would I be regretting it in the low run? Thanks for your input.

I just traded my Axim and i830 for a BB7520. The PIM functions are the same. To be honest, I barely noticed a difference. The full keyboard is great, appoint. entry is easy. I used the transcriber on the Dell and had prety good luck with it.
Kepp in mind, I'm not a heavy business user with 50 appts a day, but for the 3-5 per day that are in there it works good. I work nights, so a alot of my stuff spans overnight which the PIM deals with well. The address book part is great. I don't have to store an abbreviated name, just scroll to their full name and click dial.

The PIM of BlackBerries has made some massive improvements in the last 6 months, that it really doesn't make much of a difference between the factory default PIM's. (Assuming you are using a 2005-model BlackBerry, or that you upgrade to OS4)

True, there's third party PIM's such as PocketDay but even that is now available on both the PocketPC and BlackBerry.

Also, there are Tips, Tricks & Shorcuts at www.BerryFAQ.com including for the PIM.

If you are a very heavy PDA user, I would recommend the 7290 instead (the bright screen version, rather than the dim-screen 7280) of the 7100 series. The 7290 is still smaller than the Axim X50V and you get a full keyboard that you can thumbtype faster on too as well. However, if you need a superior phone, and a PDA/email machine second, the 7100 fits the bill.

Thanks for the input guys! I think I more comfortable with the "jump" now.
