(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I got 2 calls already from 1 000 012 3456 and most of them around 23:00. What is this number? I did search on fonefinder.net and google it. not much info. just assumptions that it might b skype...

Posted by: eliminator

I think that's the id Skype uses, so you might be correct.

Posted by: phillyfan66

might be one of those telephones scams ware you press a number and you just agreed to pay huge amount. just like a 1 900 call. I know this happens sometime over in the UK.

Posted by: aaronhurd

Most likely it is Skype. That is the number that shows up on my parents' caller ID when I call them using Skype.

Posted by: mediamail2

Is there a way of tracing the calls from 1-000-012-3456?

Dan.

Posted by: bobolito

IP calls are very hard to trace, if not impossible.

Posted by: DRC72

The number itself almost looks like an IP address.

Posted by: scottjhl

It is just the number that shows up as skype. if you call a landline or a number in the us for free. I called my gf with skype and thats what showed...

Posted by: Binx75075

To confirm....... it is definitely a Skype phone call.

Posted by: damnu

agreed, skype

Posted by: PhillipD76

It could also be person or organization who instead of blocking their Caller ID (which would lead to calls not getting though lines who have those calls blocked) changing their Outgoing Caller ID on their PBX to that number. Some marketing companies use that tactic. I managed a PBX for a number of years and you could input whatever number you chose.

It's SkypeOut.

It's almost always possible to trace VoIP calls that are handed to the PSTN back to at least the customer of the carrier that actually handed them off to the PSTN (this is something I frequently do in my job to troubleshoot problems), and is usually possible to trace them all the way back to the originating ATA/softphone/what have you.

It's just stupid kids with no life pranking you on Skype. I wouldn't worry about it. I've been using Skype for a long time and I can confirm that all SkypeOut calls to US numbers will show up as 000-012-3456.

Posted by: VMV702

sorry if this is a stupid question but I've seen calls missed from 2222222222 and was wondering if it's the same kinda thing

No, never heard of that. All skype calls show up as 0000123456 or Unlisted/Unavailable.. not private tho.

wow,, first time I see this,, it has to be a scam..

Posted by: captirwin

Its SKYPE. I've been using it for the past 3 weeks and its GREAT. You all should try it.

Posted by: bones boy

Just to mention - you don't ALWAYS get 1000123456 from Skype - sometimes you get a local number or semi local number - but you NEVER get the actual SkypeOut number, at least thus far...

Posted by: Tauro72

Well, that makes sense, I have the same thing happen to me now with other services..

Is your Wireless Provider the best? ** POLL **

and ... VS ... and Verizon Who??

Posted by: AMSguitarist

There are Caller ID Spoofing services where you can put up any number you want to show up on the receiving end's caller ID. You have to pay about 10 cents a call for this service.

Posted by: mediamail2

These calls come users using SKPE free Internet calling. As of the last couple of weeks, calls from Skpye have been showing up on calling id as unknown name and unknown number.

Dan.

Posted by: tartis

It is a Skype user that has not purchased a Skype number.

PC to PC calls are free, as well as calls to the US, Canada, and a few Western European countries until 2007.

Just happened to me too, for the first time at 11:00 as well. Does it happen frequently? If so, what measures did you take to stop it?

Posted by: starbucks95905

i am positive it is skype, those numbers are traceable, its just very hard to do so, you have to file a few lawsuits and stuff. It's not worth tracing unless they have stolen $100,000.00 from you

Posted by: thehelios

I use Skype and there are 2 types of numbers that will show up when Im calling a land/cell phone. Its either Unknown/Private or 012-345-6789. This is most likely a skype call, and if you know no one with skype, quite possibly a telemarketing scheme.

Posted by: starbucks95905

UPDATE ON LAST POST: I've done my research and skype calls ARE possible to trace, it is just VERY hard and is not worth the trouble at all, but you should try and trace the ones that say unknown, it could very possibly be someone using *67

Any call that hits the PSTN can be traced. (CALEA)

its not ALWAYS skype. it can be anyone blocking their number. how do i know? my bank calls me all the time from 000123456. so don't think its always skype.

Posted by: scaredpoet

Skype is free when calling other Skype users (and calling them by their skype username). Calling out is I beleive 2.5 cents per minute in the US, and varying itnernational rates. OR, you can get unlimited US and Canada calling for one year if you pay $30.

The details are all at skype.com.

The drawbacks

- You must make calls from either your computer or Skype WiFi phone. To receive calls, your computer must be on and connected and the Skype software running, or if on a WiFi phone, you must be at a hotspot and connected.

- All calls are dependent on a peer to peer VOIP system. They claim this system is encrypted, but the quality of the call depends largely on how the call is routed. Usually though, the call quality is okay.

Does your Bank happen to be Bank of America? They did recently convert all of their branches' phone systems to a VoIP based solution. And Skype does offer a business solution that some businesses (including eBay) have switched to or are switching to. So actually, yes, your bank probably IS calling you from Skype, or an equivalent service.

Untrue. You can purchase a SkypeIn number that maps to your Skype account. However, that Skype out number DOES NOT get sent as the CID. When I make phone calls via Skype the number is always 0000123456 or Private / Unknown even though I have a real telephone number for it.

They are now Skype phones that don't require a computer. I have the Philips VOIP8411B. It uses Skype for calls but doesn't require my compute to be one. So my phone service is $53 per year. It works great. I also have overseas phone numbers that ring my Skype phone so family in Australia can call me and it doesn't cost me or them any long distance fee's.

Are you serious? Only that much per year.. How does it work if does not have a need for a PC?

It has a little box much like the Vonage adapter. To learn more about it go to http://www.consumer.philips.com/con..._37_US_CONSUMER

Netgera and Linksys also have one available but the Philips has the best ratings so far.

A Skype incoming number is $38 per year and the unlimited calls in the US and Canada is $29.95. They offered it for $14.95 during December and January so it is a little higher now but still not bad. Also with the Skype incoming number you get unlimited incoming calls for free.

Maybe because someone logged in after years of been away from HoFo, and went to check his UserCP and responded to his last threads not realizing they were already old..

I know you can conference others in. Can you do it without another party knowing? And does Skype have a recording feature? I am sure my soon to be Ex was up to something today. We still have sprint service with free minutes so why call me from Skype? Can anyone help me out here? Thanks in advance.

I got a call today from this number 000 012 3456 thats how i fell upon your site.
It was woman on the other end and she knew my husband name and that he played on certain website. I told her he wasn't home and she hung up on me...

Has anyone had this happen?

Norma

Ah, skype.

When it works it works well. Other times the audio quality is just terrible.
Sort of like a loaded CDMA cell - it literally degrades very subtly.

I don't think I like the sound of G.729 though...

Hi
I keep getting calls from 134466056 134466057 134466058 and 134466059.
They are always anon and they are getting to be a nuisance.
Does anyone know what they are, or where they come from, I have done the usual checks on the web and can find nothing
