Got one also, the link in question rejects the IMEI of my Blue MPX220...

Posted by: nikeboymn

it accepted mine with no problems.

Posted by: killah21

I got that email too...

Posted by: ClarkG

I just got the email too, but I don't know where to find the IMEI number. I've found the stickers under the battery, but I don't know which one is the IMEI code.

EDIT: I just guessed at a number and it accepted it. Hopefully it's the correct one. Looks something like this:
3xxxxxxxxxxxxx9 (all numbers).

Posted by: aw000002

Hi,

Another way to get the IMEI # is to type :
*#06#

This should take a few seconds and then display your IMEI number.

This way you do not have to shut down the phone.

Hope this help,
Alan.

Posted by: huntman69

Hi,

I didn't get the mail , so can you pls give us all the site where to write the IMEI # .

Thank You

Posted by: badbob001

I have an unbranded mpx220: imei is
3xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx8 but it won't accept it. wtf.

With all this hassle, it better be an upgrade to 2005!

i got mine from cingular... but out of contract!
what do i do if they ask for a number??

You dont have to give them your phone number its optional, and sorry to say i think this is only for Cingular branded Mpx220's thats why people with unbranded mpx220's are getting their imei numbers rejected. Hopefully this site coinsides with the free bluetooth headset also. I want a hs-850 so bad!!!

Worked for me too.

Thank you! Your one time entry has been collected.

Posted by: Chiringuito

Also noticed that you do not put the hyphens ( - ) into the form.. just the straight numbers.. worked for me..

Posted by: badbob001

You think it's likely that each upgrade download would be keyed to each phone's IMEI number?

Posted by: crash55

Mine cleared! At least we know there is some movement after all the false starts and teeth nashing. Maybe?

Posted by: ChrisFB

Mine didn't. I am a Cingular customer, under contract and have a Cingular branded MPx220.

I received this message:

"Error: You are not a member of the preregistrants group."

I'm guessing you had to sign up or something.

when did you buy the phone?

Posted by: crash55

I bought mine in Jan. of '05 from cingular. I am guessing you may have to sign- up first on the moto cingular MPx 220 promo site. I did this about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I didn't save the site address, but someone on this forum will give it to you. LOL

January I think. Yeah, definitely January because I registered here shortly after.

Posted by: rayhurst

I have a Cingular Mpx220 bought in Jan at a CIngular store and I signed up for the email notification of the software update using the website promo, but when I try this link with my IMEI, I get the same error ("Error: You are not a member of the reregistrants group.")

Anyone else that signed up for the email notification getting this error?

Posted by: rayhurst

OK, I'm confused (not new ). The I signed up for the original update using this link:
http://promo.motorola.com/mpx220/index.html

When I registered originally, I do not remember it asking me for an IMEI. Now that link takes me to a new spot to register, which does ask for my IMEI:
http://motorola.whiterunkle.com/mpx220/register_b.aspx

But the link quoted above is this one:
https://motorola.whiterunkle.com/mpx220/register.aspx

When I try using either link, I still get the error "Error: You are not a member of the preregistrants group."

Forgetting for a second that I DID "preregister", why would Moto not allow someone to check their IMEI and upgrade their Mpx220? Are they not going to offer this software upgrade to all Cingular Mpx220's?

Posted by: XDS

Cingular branded phone, bought from motorola direct (friend works there), current cingular customer, preregistered at th previous moto page.

It rejected my IMEI, bastards.

Posted by: crash55

Welcome to the Moto-zone it is even stranger than the Twilight Zone! Before this is all over, their will be a class action suit by MPx 220 owners for having high blood pressure!

Posted by: Marianoz

I also have a Cingular branded MPx220 which I purchased from their web site back in early March with version 1.30. I also did the registration when the link first came out...and back then it did not request an IMEI number. I just tried today and got the same error message that some of you also got. My blood pressure is currently at 130/90 :-)

It is really frustrating! I am now on hold with XBM re: the free bluetooth headset. A couple of days ago they told me that they would sending it in a few days -- but I didn't get a confirmation number, and off course I called back and nobody knows anything about it. Aaaarrrrrggg

Posted by: Omega2008

I completed both forms. Thanks for the link, I didn't recieve and email either.

Posted by: laskuh

i didnt receive an email. harum.

but i did go to the site. i had the same probs as above, but then remembered that i used a different email.

make sure you check that youre using the same email as when you signed up!

thanks for the link.

My registration on the new one cleared. i didnt receive an email but i received a Text message from motorola with the link and the information.. Weird haha.. but i dont mind cus im accepted...

Posted by: xplode

OK EVERYONE PLEASE UNDERSTAND! THIS FIRMWARE UPDATE IS FOR CINGULAR BRANDED PHONES ONLY!! UNBRANDED AND AT&T PHONES ARE NOT PART OF THIS GROUP SO IF YOUR IMEI Number DOESNT WORK... ITS BECAUSE ITS NOT A CINGULAR IMEI.. or you didnt pre register.. its the first reason, but might also be the second reason along with the first..

Not shouting, just making sure everyone sees it

xplode,

i do have a Cingular Mpx220 and I did preregister, but i still get the error. when do preregistered, did it ask you for your IMEI? it didn't ask me before but now it does. what i don't understand is why i couldn't check my IMEI if it thinks i did not preregister - it's almost as though they are not going to give out the update unless you preregistered.

everyone, make sure youre using the same email address as when you signed up. if you didnt sign up, do it right quick via the link above and see if that works

Posted by: rayhurst

i have tried all 3 of my emails and with all 3 i still get the error. and yes, i tried to register again. If you go to the original link to register - http://promo.motorola.com/mpx220/index.html - and click on the spot that says "Register to be notified when an upgrade is available", it takes you to a link different from the original - http://motorola.whiterunkle.com/mpx220/register_b.aspx - and when i try to sign up once again for the update, it tells me i am not a member of the preregistrant's group. i give up.

i guess i'll just wait for the update and hope anyone can get it.

Posted by: Omega2008

DENIED

NO ACCESS

Thats odd that you can't register or sign up.....Make sure your IMEI is listed with Cingular....they make stupid mistakes like that.

Posted by: rayhurst

i have sent an email to Moto to see if they have any answers. how do i check with Cingular to make sure my IMEI is listed with them? just call customer support?

i would think it was listed with them since my phone works fine and i get a bill every month for my service.

I was thinking, maybe some people just switched their sim card from their old phone and put it in their MPx220, then the MPx would not be in Cingulars data banks. The possiblity exist that Cingular did this to you because, the rep was lazy and didn't enter the new phone to your account. Maybe you got an exchange phone and your old IMEI is still in Cingulars system. I just thinking of possiblities. When things go wrong they do it at the worst possible way and time.

heres a few things to check man.. first make sure you used the same email address you pre registered with, same phone number(optional).. but no you didnt need the imei for the pre register. Another thing is just make sure your typing in the correct numbers.. if its still not recognizing then im wondering what it could be..

it wouldnt matter because if its a cingular "branded" phone, the imei number is in their system automatically because they still have the "lock" on it as far as subsidy codes.

Posted by: rayhurst

i am using the correct email address, but just to make sure i tried all 3 of my emails and still get the error. i am positive i am typing the correct imei because i've checked and rechecked it. plus, i've tried from 3 different computers (i am entering the imei without the dashes, but just to make sure, i've also tried the dashes). still no luck.

i switched from Sprint to Cingular for this phone so my Mpx220 is the 1st and only Cingular phone/SIM i've had.

i know i signed up for the update when the register link was first posted on this site a month or 2 ago. did that link send anyone a confirmation email to verify that you signed up? i don't remember getting one.

even if Moto believes i did not preregister, shouldn't we all be able to check our phones to make sure they will be upgradable? or is Moto only going to release the update to those that preregistered on a trial basis, then see what happens and if all are happy, release it to everyone? seems like a strange way to release an update.

im wondering if by being registered you get the update a bit sooner to test it out and give feedback on it before it goes public on hellomoto.. to be honest im not sure what the deal with yours is.. What Rom version? check and let me know

Posted by: rayhurst

ROM update version:
Manufacturer 1.30.0.0

i waited until Cingular stores carried the Mpx220 to make sure i got 1.3

i'm starting to think Moto is going to release the update to a limited numbers of users, then ask for feedback or check forums like this one to see how the mobile phone community accepts the update. and maybe SO MANY people signed up for the email notification that not everyone that signed up will get the update - maybe just the first xxx number of people who registered.

who knows, maybe by the time they release the update, Windows Mobile 5 will be out and some new kick *** smartphone will come to Cingular and i'll just keep the Mpx220 around as a backup.

so here's my response from Moto:

=======

Thank you for contacting Motorola E-mail Support.

Regarding your concern, Motorola & Cingular are aggressively working on a software enhancement to improve the audio quality on the MPX220.

You have already registered to be notified on the software update, please contact Cingular directly for further assistance in this matter.

Cingular Wireless 1-866-Cingular (1-866-246-4852)

I hope this information has been of your help. I remain at your entire disposal for any further questions you may wish to ask.

hmmm....so if Moto says i've already registered for the update, then why didn't i receive an email like others? and when i try to check my IMEI at the link mentioned earlier, why does it say i'm not a member of the preregistrants group?!?!

me confused!!!!

Just wondering, but those of you that cant use the new link successfully, did you put in your mailing address for the pre-registration? I did and it worked for me, and i got my cingular branded phone off ebay. I noticed the "pre-register" page has changed to ask for IMEI numbers now too.

thats probably not a "pre register page anymore" thats probably the new registration page... People who registered before are the ones who had to provide their IMEI for the second part.. Yes you put your address in the pre registration i believe... i think i did but i did it like 4 weeks ago so im not exactly sure..

the only thing that they are going to give us is a firmware update to corect the problems associated with the phone. dont expect wm10 or magneto, it just isnt going to happen

Microsoft has never released an update for any devices. All updates must come from the manufacturer of the device, which in this case would be Motorola. Unless I'm missing some announcement about Microsoft having a new policy of offering Windows Mobile 5 upgrades directly to consumers.

Come to think if it I have never seen a update on the store. I do remember with some of the old PDA's that I had I could get a update from Compaq to get the new OS. I think there was a cost for it though.

Posted by: rayhurst

OK, so after receiving a response from Moto (earlier in this thread), i replied back with this:

----
Have you verified that I am registered to receive the update notification? I have several friends that received an email pointing them to a website ( https://motorola.whiterunkle.com/mpx220/register.aspx ) so they could check their IMEI to make sure their phone was upgradable and yet I have not received that email. Should I have receive such an email?
----

this was their response:

----
Thank you for contacting Motorola E-mail Support one more time.

In reference to your reply, please note that this software update issue is handled directly by Cingular. Therefore, please contact them for further assistance.
----

So is this software update going to come from Cingular or Moto?

I would give it a try. They will have to direct ship the phone from Moto though. Or just wait for the ROM to come out and then get try and get a new phone with the new rom.

The reason is because AT&T branded phones are not "cingular" phones, therefore they feel no need to provide an update for you on the blue end. Therefore forcing you to switch to the orange side to buy a new mpx220 at a discounted price.. I wouldnt count on a new unbranded firmware direct from motorola either.. This is a Cingular/Motorola issue..

and no, XBM is almost 99% not going to switch your phone with an orange one, seeing as its not a "Cingular" phone, therefore your kind of screwed.. they would lose too much money swapping phones out.

i purchased my phone from BestBuy and I AM NOT a Cingular customer. i did, however, have Cingular send me a replacment device in late 2004. nonetheless, i was able to register my IMEI. the first time it was rejected, but after using a different email address it was accepted...fyi, my phone was purchased unlocked. go figure...

EDIT: forgot to mention, that i did preregister for update notifications and I DID NOT receive the email listed in this thread.

Posted by: another_punk

I wonder if this is even credible. First of all, I do not see any links on http://www.whiterunkle.com/ about this registration/validation form. Second, not everybody got the email from Motorola, and, third, how come Motorola's website does not have any kind of information regarding this website or the form. Now, I understand if Motorola only sent this email to a few select, but, why would the form be on a different website. Why is this form not on Motorola's website?

Man, all I know is that I am not filling this form!

Posted by: fredtwd

When this thread was first started, I had some concerns; however, motorola's site:

http://promo.motorola.com/mpx220/index.html

does link to:

http://motorola.whiterunkle.com/mpx220/register_b.aspx

if you select "Already Own...".

So fear not, fill in the form if you want to :-)

Posted by: Omega2008

No as long as they don't key the update to a specific IMEI.

the only part that matters is that it is a cingular branded phone.. doesnt matter if your not on cingular.. but cingular will not accept the imei of an "unbranded" or ATT mpx220, or whatever mpx220 company label is on it but cingular..

Posted by: Omega2008

Or your IMEI number must be on record with Cingular...

Ex. If you buy a phone that is supported by Cingular but you didn't buy it from a Cingular store, Cingular online or telesales...you need to register your phone with Cingular. If they support it they will register it....well there supposed to but I can't guarentee anything.

they will not register a phone that is not branded by them. you dont need to buy it from a store to be cingular branded. online retailers whatever, aslong as it has cingular on the phone and box, your fine.

funny, they registed my v600 when I had it and it was a AT&T branded..... ....odd.

i guess it depends on the rep because a friend of mine works at cingular, and he always gives me any info he knows cus we always discuss stuff, and he said that normally they will not register a phone thats not branded to them.. If you are a cingular customer, they will some times do it, but if your not a customer, forget about it, they wont even give you the time of day according to my friend lol

Posted by: Omega2008

I don't know....maybe because I am a high-paying customer. I hope its not that reason....ever single Cingular customer deserves the same treatment but I have heard that they do "special" things for customers who have a big account with them....Not sure if its true but yet again the rep that did it for me was very nice.

Yeh, im with you on that, the prices that i pay are smiles on their faces and il leave it at that haha.

I was with AT&T and now Cingular and my AT&T MPx220 registered fine with the moto site, and I recieved an email and gave my IMEI number and then I went to the website again and put info in again with IMEI and did not get any errors with my IMEI number from AT&T mpx220

-Keith

Posted by: kilobravo

FWIW everyone, I got the aforementioned whiterunkle link to accept my entry and the problem was, my IMEI in Cingular's database was incorrect. I suspect this was due to the fact that I had BestBuy swap the phone a week after purchase to get the first firmware upgrade when the "orange dot" phones made it into BestBuy inventory.

When I did this, I merely walked in with the old phone and walked out with a new one, i.e., I don't recall the BB salesperson doing anything in the computer that would have updated the IMEI, all she did was put the old SIM card in the new phone.

So, the previous posts recommending that everyone who is getting the "You're not a member of the preregistrants group" error, call Cingular Wireless customer support at 866-246-4852 is good advice.

Now, you may get a Cingular person who doesn't have a clue but if you just get them to verify your IMEI number, and change it if it disagrees with their database, you should be able to get past the error and get yourself added to the list. Also, the rep can check the email address you used when you first filled out the forms at purchase. Make sure that jibes as well as the IMEI.

Bottom line is, once she changed my IMEI, I got the form to process me and add me to the list.

Hope this helps some of you...

Hey kilobravo -

Thanx for the IMEI tip on phones exchanged thru BestBuy, like mine. I called Cingular today and sure nuff, they had a bad IMEI (although my BB xchange receipt shows the correct IMEI). Cing just updated it in their system.

Any idea on how long it takes for IMEI updates to get into Moto's registration site? I'll try tonight and keep trying till I get in.

Don't know what we're all gonna get - but it better be worth all the hassle!!

well i just called cingular customer service and they have my correct IMEI number in their system and i still get the "not a member of the preregistrants group" error.

i guess they just don't like me. hopefully the update will be out soon and i'll be able to use the update tool even though i can't register for it (hmm...that doesn't make any sense)

Any luck yet? I called in me IMEI yesterday, Still no love on the moto site...

Hey XDS - I called Cingular to correct my IMEI around noon CDT yesterday and late this morning I entered my data @ Moto and it worked OK. I had tried several times late yesterday and earlier this morning, so appears it takes about 24 hours (but may depend on how often Moto gets updates from Cingular).

Good luck - let us know how it goes.

still no mail from moto/cingular for me...

Golfguy et al: My experience is, it took seconds if that because before the CW CS rep came back on the line, (she was updating my IMEI), I tried the whiterunkle page and it worked. Also, that page is actually maintained by CW despite it looking like a Moto page.

Looks like I'm just not lucky enough. Their web page refuses to accept my phone. "Error: IMEA number is not valid."

It did the same with me....I tried the next day and it worked. Go figure!

I'm happy now!

I have 1.39 ATTWS upgrade and it has made a big difference to my sound quality.

The startup sound BLARES now - it was loud before.
Speakerphone and Ear are better as well.

It seems more responsive. 4 days now with the new ROM and all my apps are loaded and email downloaded again - boy that was a pain - waiting for 350+ headers to be received as an initial load.

Memory leaks I had before seem to have disappeared or been minimized. No need top restart at all. Task Viewer has shown upwards to 8 apps and lack of memory wasnt high enought to launch my "memory is low" batpak pro alert.

i had a similar experience with the 1.39 ATTWS and the 1.40 Asian updated ROMs. let's hope the "reported/updated" Cingular ROM is just as good and maybe better!

Agree with that. Kind of hope since these came out now that our new update will come out soon.
