I am looking to replace my wifes phone. She currently has a old Nokia candy bar. It is just a phone, nothing else. She has had it for several years and she is currently with Cingular on a month to month.
She is looking for a new phone. She wants to spend around $100 after rebates, etc. She wants a camera, MP3 player, and voice recorder, and for the to allow expandable memory via the flash cards.
She wants to use the voice recorder to record her school classes. So it should allow recording for several hours and have a good microphone for getting the teacher in the front of the room.
I have been doing some research, but there are so many phones out there. So far the Motorola MPx220 seems good, but isn't availible right now, and needs the volume issues fixed.
So, what phones should I look at? Should I just wait for the MPx220?
Thanks for any help,
Keith

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is any phone that Cingular currently has that fits all of those needs. However, you could get an unlocked phone from E-bay or another site, but it won't be anywhere near $100.

Sorry Keith,
I don't think you will find a phone that will meet your requirements within your budget if you simply want to buy a phone outright (SIM-Free)
You do however mention your wife is currently going 'month to month'. I am quite certain that Cingular will give her a deal on a new phone, provided she is renews her contract for at least one year, and of course a 2 year contract may work in your favor.
If she is willing to close her current account and activate a new line of service, perhaps you can go through Amazon. They generally have decent deals on new phones. You might want to give it a look.
I am sure you will find a phone that meets wife’s needs - whether or not it can be done for $100... I'm not too sure. The MPx220 if released will be much more than $100. Some are speculating that Motorola intends to scrap this model. You can refer to this April 15th article: http://www.digitimes.com/telecom/a20050415A5021.html
I hope this has been at least somewhat helpful.

Oh ok. I understand now. They plan to scrap production of MPx230 while halting production of the MPx220, right?
