Volume on SMT5600?

I just got an Audiovox SMT5600 smartphone from Ebay, and had it unlocked. (It had been locked to ATT.) I am using it on T-Mobile.
I find the volume on the phone to be very low, even when the volume is turned up all the way with the volume control on the left side of the phone.
Any way to improve the volume on this phone? Has that been a problem with some of these phones? Is there a firmware upgrade that would fix it? (I couldn't find one on the Audiovox web site.)
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have not heard of or experienced any volume problems with my 5600 (AT&T and now unlocked for Cingular). The phone generally has very good audio quality, even with the speaker phone. There are no available firmware updates for the 5600.
There are some cases where the phone audio goes lower (such as playing MP3s) when an an alert with increasing volume is used. It seems that if you snooze the alert as it is increasing, the audio output changes to a midlevel until you restart. I have not seen this affect phone audio though - just MP3s.
Have you tried using a BlueTooth headset? That gives me good quality as well.
