p900 problem

hiya
i am new to ericsson handsets.
i have just bought a second hand set from ebay and the seller assured me the phone was unlocked,so i put in my orange sim card and turned the phone on and i get a vibrate from it and an o2 screen appears breifly and then goes and i get an orange written at the top.
so i thought fair enough but my problem is if i go into control panel i get an access denied box appear at the bottom of the screen to tell the truth even if i want to access messages i get access denied written at the bottom.
have i been fleeced so to speak and what can i do about it.
bear in mind i am in the uk
