Does the Treo 650 support mp3 ringtones and how do you get them on there

It does, but you need to use a program such as Ringo.

Lightwav

Does anyone know of a program OTHER THAN Lightwav that will support both MP3 AND Wav ringtones for voicemail/text message notifications? The last time I checked Ringo, it only supported MP3s, not wavs, which I normally use for voicemail (short sound effects mostly). I'm not really happy with Lightwav, it has TOO many features that I don't use. I just want to simply assign certain tones on a simple menu.

try mRing. That's what I use.

my goal is to be able to have different rings for different people, pirmairly using mp3s as the ringtones. i was thinking about Ringo Pro....anyone have any advice or insight on that app?

Are there any FREE Mp3 ringtone apps? Most that I have found cost like twenty bucks. I don't need anything fancy just don't want to have to record a song over the voice recorder to have a decent ringtone.

Ringo Pro works great. Got it, paid for it. Assign different tunes to diffrent people. I don't know of any "free" apps. If there are...I'll be pissed!

There are 2 FREE METHODS to import ringtones into your Treo 650 (keeping in mind, they work only for ringer and some system sounds):

1) You can use the built-in browser, Blazer, to directly import sound files (I've only tried this with .wav) by downloading the .wav-file from a webspace. For instance, if you want the "Law & Order" gavel boink-boink, load-in the following URL from my webspace: link
home.comcast.net/~guncollector/law_order/gavel.wav
After Blazer finds the file, it will ask you whether you wish to save it to "Sounds" or "Card". Select "Sounds" and the file is automatically imported and converted into a native PalmOS sound format. Select and configure the newly-imported sound to be a rington/alert/whatever from the "Sounds & Alerts" Menu.

Note: Free Method 1 does not function if you've installed any of many 3rd Party MP3 player/apps to your Treo 650. This is because the "importing" from browser feature is taken over by the MP3 app.

-or-

2) You can use almostany email program (though I've had zero success with VersaMail) to accomplish the same (I use Snappermail*): i) copy the .wav-file you wish to import onto your SD card, ii) create a new faux email to yourself, iii) attach the .wav-file you imported in step "i", iv) once attached, click on the filename and the OS will ask if you wish to save it to "Sounds" or "Card". Select and configure the newly-imported sound to be a rington/alert/whatever from the "Sounds & Alerts" Menu.

*-note: While this method works with Snappermail, the newly-imported sound will be named "???" in the Sounds & Alerts's Sound Management listing. Simply click "details" and rename it to whatever you wish. I don't know what causes this glitch.

Hope that helps!

Can Phone Technician assign Wav SMS/Voicemail Tones??

Can you put the ringer file on a sd card (by using a card reader), then put the card in and transfer it to the Treo?

For .wav files and using an email program's attachment-feature, the answer is "yes". See my post above for instructions of the "free method #2".
