Pair Treo and Mac....help needed!

I'm going insane! I'm trying to enable DUN and get my TREO to work with my PB on the Cingular network. I've downloaded the hack and can turn on the dial-up option. To avoid error messages...I had to disconnect from cingulars network and turn off snapper and versichat.

So....now I have everything internet related off, cingular network is on, and dial-up on in bluetooth on the TREO. I can't sync with my Powerbook!! It hangs forever when I select mobile and if I choose "other device" network connection is blacked out.

I've searched all over for a way to pair the treo with the powerbook and cant find the answer! It just hangs forever.

If anyone has a solution, please let me know. After I sync...I'm sure I'll have hours of fun getting the internet to work...but first I need to pair.

Thanks so much,
Jason

Without any hacking, I was able to get my Cingular Treo 650 (firmware 1.04 I think) to pair. It was a pain because one side or the other would time out before I could type the code in the Treo. But I did get it to work eventually, using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant in Mac OS X.

I have not tried DUN. Are you simply having problems with pairing, even to enable things like BT HotSync? (Which, btw, is very cool and an awesome demo in the office.)

I got DUN working with very few problems the other day, following these instructions:
http://vocaro.com/trevor/treo-dun/
I did have to go through it twice, because I did not move fast enough the first time and the Treo went to sleep. But it was very smooth...

You should be using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, via the Mobile Phone option. You actually do NOT want the devices paired already -- you first need to delete any existing pairing with the Treo (via System Preferences > Bluetooth > Devices tab). You should also check the Treo's Bluetooth Trusted Devices and delete any existing pairing with the powerbook.

Make sure your Treo's Bluetooth is set to Discoverable: Yes -- otherwise the powerbook will never find it when you go through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant.

Also, be careful with your terms -- sync and pair are totally different things, and it seemed like you might be using them interchangeably.

To set up Bluetooth Hotsync, make the powerbook discoverable, then go through the wizard in the Treo's Bluetooth app. It includes a series of pages instructing you to do stuff with serial port setup, etc -- you do not have to do any of that on you mac, those tasks are PC-only. If you set up BT Hotsync before setting up DUN, to set up DUN just delete all the pairings, then both Bluetooth Hotsync and DUN will work after you set up DUN (which involves recreating the pairing).

Thank you for the suggestions....

For some reason it is still not working...so maybe i should start from scratch and reload some firmware. Do a hard reset...etc?

You are not giving us much detail about what does not work. Can you get the Treo & powerbook paired? Bluetooth Setup Assistant still fails? If you are specific we can help much better.

A hard reset and starting over certainly might help, but it's impossible to recommend the right course of action without more information.

After upgrading to fw 1.23 everything worked fine the first time. I must have had some sort of conflict with all of my apps on 1.21?

Anyhow...thanks for everyone's tips and support.
