AMAZON RAZR- Can I get it?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: mixer99

I am a current ATTWS guy and have been waiting for a deal to jump across to the Cingular side of the house. Anyone think it's possible to get the razr from Amazon and then port my number to it, closing my ATT account?

Posted by: DaleJr#8

you can do that but dont forget that porting a number to a new activation w/ Amazon will litterally throw the chances of getting any rebates out the window.

Amazon is very strict against paying out rebates when any kind of number porting is involved.

Thanks for your reply! I trust your reply is accurate and know you know exactly what you are talking about, but I wonder why Amazon is that way with the rebate, considering I could just be porting a number from a competing carrier, not AT&T.

Any idea around it, for example, keeping both services for a finite period of time? Any comments are appreciated.

Isn't the razr 3 just as cheap on the Cingular website without rebates? 199.99? What's the final cost on Amazon?

Nevermind...99.99

to be honest, I think I would wait a couple more weeks to see how cheap the Razr can be bought on ebay.

after all, with Cingular's recent Razr price droppings, you know the ebay Razr prices are only going to drop as well.

like I said earlier, Amazon doesnt take previous number porting too likely and they usually do whatever it takes to weasel out of any rebates if possible on their end.

www.letstalk.com is giving out an instant $100 rebate on the Razr when you sign a two year contract with Cingular.

True. However I'm coming from Sprint. So I'm looking forward to it.

$199 for Cingular Branded RAZR, Sim locked, Cingular Logos evrywhere, Cardboard box, 2 year contract.
$399 for eBay OEM RAZR, No Sim lock, Aluminium CASE. Phone Tools CD, computer cable, leather case, no contract.

I paid the $399 becuase I wanted to ride my ATT contract out (free incomming text mesages.)

I look at it this way.
$199 for the phone.
$20 - $40 to have someone tweak with the software to unlock the sim (plus it voids the warranty)
Another $30 - $40 for the MPT and cable.
Perhaps another $20.00 for the OEM headset and USB jack
Then $5.00 a month for the next 1-2 years for text messaging.
I alsos get a free leather case and the limited edition box (non issue to me)
Final cost is about the same.

It's your choice.

why can't you just port your number after the fact?

Amazon will treat it as a service termination and reactivation. That's grounds for not giving you your rebates.

But check out the price Buy.com is selling it for. Saw this on www.slickdeals.net this afternoon. And only a 1-year contract, apparently.

http://www.buy.com//retail/wireless...1500&dcaid=1688

Don't know if you can port a number, though.

I'm actually trying to find out about porting a number on buy.com. There is a box you can check to port, but then there is nowhere online where you fill out porting information. So how do they do it?? . Also, it seems like they are all 2yr contracts. Is there some other way that you know about??

I could not agree more. No more contracts for me. I'm sticking to month to month thank you very much. I do not mind paying full retail for a phone to not being locked into any term and keeping my 1st generation 32k sim.

howardforums.com.com has it unbranded for 349.

if you call through NBO, it's 199, without contract extention i believe. i think i'm gonna do it myself. this t616 isn't cutting it for me anymore.

.

So are you an ATT customer or not? You could sign up a new number with the Amazon deal, and then close your ATT service, but if you want that number, Amazon dosent want your business unless you are a new activation to them, plain and simple.

I saw that Bestbuy had them for 149 this week. I asked what it was w/ a 1yr, no one seemed to know.

One price was 175, then I told them it was an upgrade... it jumped to 199 to 225. No one seemed to know

I upgraded to a v400 early last year and had no issues.

Best Buy out of Razr 3's here in Southeast Michigan....nada...if and when rec'd they advise rice going back to $199...yet they still advertise the price at $99....great marketing?!?!?!?
