a few 6230b questions

First things first... howardforums has been very very slow, so i couldn't use the search feature. Took me 20 minutes to get to "Post New Thread" page. So i apologize in advance for maybe asking redundant questions that have been asked already.

1) Is it possible to flash my 6230 to the newest firmware without having to take it to an authorized repair center? If so, could I please have a link to a thread, or guide explaining how to do so?

2) I use T-Mobile. Is there a way to remove the T-Mobile, carrier name from the center of my main screen, or hide it, or trick the phone to move it's position (x,y) off the visible portion of the lcd? Again, a link to a guide or thread explaining how to do this would be awesome; if of course you don't mind typing out the solution here yourself.

lastly..

3) When listening to the FM tuner, I find myself only being able to get into the tuner by first having the headset plugged into the pop port. Is there a way to bypass this requirment, and allow use of the loudspeaker without first having to have the headset plugged in? I know when you do have the headset plugged in and get into the tuner, set it to loudspeaker, and then unplug the headset the tuner dies too. Is there a way around this?

I know i'm not a big poster here, I mainly follow suit and read alot of the articles learning more about mobile technology each day. I felt there is a great abundance of knowledge here, and assume someone may know the answer. Excuse me if it seems a bit much. I just got the phone, and these are the only quirks i've come across thus far.

Thank you in advance to any advice, tricks, and tips you may impart unto my behalf. I appreciate any feedback, positive or constructive suitably.

Patrick

1) It's possible but you would need access to a flash cable and a flash box like a Griffin Box. These aren't readily available for consumers and are also expensive. Flashing your phone on your own is difficult since you have to know exactly what you're doing since a simple mistake can cause problems.

2) The only way I know to do this would to be download a blank op logo from a WAP site. As far as I know, this tends to remove logos only, I'm not sure about the carrier name.

3) No, the headset has to be plugged in at all times even when activating the radio since the headset cable acts as the radio's antenna. Theoretically, you could try shorting the connector pins to make the phone think there is a headset attached but you have to find out which exact pins are shorted when the headset in plugged in.

Hope this helps,

i don't know about t-mobile but i have cingular and i got rid of the op logo by going to jhonny.wap

It's provider-dependent. Some providers use customized firmware which makes it hard or impossible to change the op logo.

You can get a very small 2.5 adapter that all by itself will allow you to use the FM radio... it adds very little mass to the phone and receives well even without the wire from headset plugged in. I am using it to listen to the radio over the loudspeaker right now and it works great. I got the item at a Cingular store for $3

go to jhonny.org/wap from the phone and download the blank logo and save it. Than turn on the operator logo and that should take care of the logo. If the phone is roaming the operator logo will appear again until the phone enters the original carriers network!
