If you're having trouble accessing wap.howardforums.com on your WM device try downloading this file (with your computer)
http://www.howardforums.com/wap/red...orumsPIEAHM.zip

and following the instructions in the readme.txt file in the zip file.

Cool!

I'd like to add a footnote:

Install to the phone memory. This will fail if you install to the external memory card.

Why is it that I don't have to use these 'mods'? My WM2003 device works great on HoFo?

Posted by: Omega2008

Its for people who have a problem with accessing wap.howardforums....aparently you don't have the problem so your good to go.

Link no longer works. Can someone host that file please.

Posted by: phonesss

Yeah is there any way to get that file again???

Posted by: howard

Link has been updated for those who haven't been able to download the file.

Posted by: floepie

You can grab this file only if you use IE "save link as"....

Howard, Is this file intended only for smartphones and not pocketPC phone edition?

For whatever reason, WM5 pocket PC cannot access the xHTML HoFo site, unlike it can with other WAP 2.0-enabled sites..... Thanks...

This doesn't work for WM5.0 devices....

Posted by: floepie

Found the proper reg hack that will allow WM5.0 to view xhtml pages!

I don't know if its just me/my phone, but everytime i install this fix, it screws up the pics for other mobile-intended websites. Eg. mobile.msn.com After the fix, the pics dont display properly anymore. Any way to uninstall, and any way to fix my problem?

Later

Posted by: floepie

You mean you can't uninstall that DL wiforum app?

If you just apply the reg settings in my post, you will be golden.

i can uninstall through add remove. i'll do that then try your reg settings

Posted by: donovan1983

This "fix" does nothing on my Qtek 8010 running the latest i-Mate SP3 firmware. Like my Panasonic X800, I just get redirected to the full HTML version of Howard Forums. On other WiForums sites I just get a blank page. I think the WiForums software just hates smartphones. If the developer of WiForums would just make the software default to WML instead of trying to detect the capabilities of the device then this problem probably wouldn't exist. All other mobile websites I have tried work fine so it is a WiForums problem, not a smartphone problem. It's a shame that WiForums has this issue since smartphones are ideal for mobile web browsing.

Posted by: howard

sorry about the link, it should be working again

for those who are getting redirected I just spoke with the developer so hopefully it should be fixed often.

wap.howardforums.com is working fine on my WM5.0 (Cingular 2125)

Posted by: Jakaroe808

Love WAP HoFo but am finding a couple issues. The first thing I noticed is that there is no way to go to the last page of a long thread or any other quick navigation such as page # links. I also am not thrilled with the single post per page. I thought there would be a setting to change this but have not been able to find it. Just my 2 cents

Posted by: Omega2008

Yes there is, scroll down to Post order and pick ascending.

Posted by: substring

I have problem accessing the wap.howardforums.com. Every time I try, I get redirected back to the non-wap site.

It does not make any sense whatsoever that I have to hack my registry or install a software in order to access a WAP site. I don't have any problem at all getting wap.ebay.com. Isn't it the same? If the HowardForums' wap site is set up differently than other wap sites (like Ebay), I would like to hear why.

Has anyone tried that on a XV6700?

Thanks.

Posted by: veblen

Me too: Every time I try and access wap.howardforums.com I get redirected back to the non-wap site. Very frustrating! Can't there just be a static site that doesn't redirect back?

Either you stating the painfully obvious, or you haven't found the solution at the top of the page. Don't consider this a hack - just an adjustment of sorts. Some browsers let you play with these settings in their options. PIE makes you search for them in the reg. So, just DO IT and be happy.

did you do anything special. on my cingular 2125 i just get a blank screen

Posted by: Quatre

hm, yeah i wish i had found out about this sooner. I haven't been able to get wap.howardforums.com to work since my treo 650 and just had to use the regular site even on the 650 with slow edge speeds.

Tried it again on xv6700 to no avail, but I think my problem was always i could not log in with my normal username/pass as it said invalid or something.

Is this what the problem is for everyone that this file fixes?

regular site worked well enough on the xv6700 with evdo and especially with wifi but with the Q smaller screen and wm smartphone version of pie wap may be a good idea.

will this work for the Q? what and where is the file needed?

i know when i tried regular hofo.com on the Q and you went to post instead of showing the edit field it shows it as a one line box you have to click to open up in a new screen to then type.

like its own built in wap or something but yeah it threw me off at first and i want to try the real wap version on it. so i guess i'll try first and then come back.

but if my problem is that i just can't seem to login into wap.hofo.com with usual username/pass that works fine from the phones on normal site then maybe my prob is diff?

one suggestion.

Move the unsubscribe/subscribe to the bottom and bring the 'next page' link immediately after the message when using the wap browsing.

Thanks

Works well on the HTC S620 and results in a great display of HF in WAP using the one column view and smaller under the zoom setting.

hofo needs to make email notification with a link to the wap version of thread. instead of just saying go "To access this thread via your mobile device select the 'wap.howardforums.com and Windows Mobile Devices' link located in your My Threads list.

If you prefer to access this thread via your PC click on the link below"

other threads that aren't even mobile phone related have a link for mobile device as a second choice

What happened to this download http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=633746 ? I can't reach http://wap.howardforums.com on my K1 - I get "413: page cannot be displayed".

Update: Forget it guys...my mistake, I have accessed it on my phone.

Posted by: DereX888

This is one of the most popular mobile sites and it is not WAP friendly, thats at least strange...

Link from post 1 is dead.
Accessing this site from mobile devices with PIE by typing the wap.howardforums.com address results in redirection to 'normal' www.howardforums.com instead.
(just tested on 3 diff. devices: if PIE is set to be identified as Blazer it goes to www instead of wap; it is also not detected properly when PIE identifies itself as PIE on ipaq running WM2003SE, but it was correctly detected on ipaq running WM5...)

The administrators of this website shouldn't support applying any "registry hacks", but should have push the website hosting company to ditch their buggy browser autodetection and use standard wml code for wap version of this site instead, and I think it is not too much to ask for?

Posted by: Tel0004

I agree. A site desinged for mobile phone should function better on a cell phone.

Followed the directions in the ReadMe file exactly, but doesn't work...when I run the file it directs me to, I just get a message 'Error' an unexpected error has occurred, then nothing. I have a Q running WM5.

Posted by: substring

No. I just tested with my XV6700 and it is still redirecting to the normal graphic-heavy site.

I agree with other posters that at these days and age, you should not have to hack your devices or install anything in order to access wap site or a mobile-friendly site. Look at map.google.com, it is smart enough to know if the request is coming from a desktop or a mobile device and redirect accordingly. I don't think it is rocket science to do that.

I have been complaining about this more than a year ago, but nothing has been done apparently. Even pdaPhoneHome.com has finally introduced a mobile-friendly skin a few months ago. But HoFo is still dragging its feet for some unknown reason.

After so long, I’ve decided to make a (reg) file that will help all the new comers to HoFo.

This reg file will auto add the hack to the phone without pain. After the hack is applied you can right away go to wap.howardforums.com and have fun.
• Rename the file Internet Settings.zip to (Internet Settings.reg). only the ( .zip ) for the ( .reg )
• Upload to your phone and execute (click) the reg file.
Enjoy

PS: you may need a regeditor.

I've downloaded this first with Firefox, then with IE, and I've tried opening it with Windows bulit-in zip folders, then with WinRAR. All say invalid or corrupt file.

Re-read the post. It's just a text file (.reg) and not a .zip.

Yeah, I got that a few weeks ago, thx. lol Turns out that my phone works fine without it though.

On this topic of wap.howardforums.com, though, am I the only one who finds it EXTREMELY tedious on my wm6 phone? There seems to be no way to jump forward several pages, or to jump to the last page in a thread, so if you want to see the new posts in a thread, you have to click next page, next page, next page, next page, next page, next page...omg omg this is taking forever(!!!)...why is there no "last page" or "jump to page" like in the full version forum??

EDIT: LOL Well I just figured it out, but maybe someone else had this problem too. Here's what to do:
Near the top of the page, click on "Page 1 of 267" or whatever, and this will bring up a Page Jump page where you can type in what page you want to jump to. I'm so glad to find this! Whew... Maybe I'm the only one, but maybe this will help someone else.

Hey this may seem like a stupid question and i tryed reading post to see if someone else has asked or answered but is there any way to make a windows mobile smart phone work the reg phone web package?
