well i didnt get my sidekickII too long ago, but the screen seems to be very loose, and i am able to move it away from the magnet. here are some pictures.
that is with it closed.
this is with it pulled off.

Yes, that bit of play is perfectly normal - the screen needs to pop up that little bit to swivel and lay back down flush when it's closed. Fear not - that's actually NOT a weak point of the device - that swivel bit is all steel.

Yup, I can confirm, perfectly normal. if it didnt do that, it would break
