MPX220 versus Nokia 6620

Hey all,

I recently traded in my V551 for a Nokia 6620 because I wanted a phone with better reception (I live in a borderline area where I get on and off service). I like the smartphone aspect of the 6620, but I miss the clamshell design of the V551. Also, the 6620 is pretty ugly.

So now I'm looking at grabbing a MPX220 off E-Bay. The price seems right at about 200 bucks, but I've heard....things about this phone.

Is there any chance someone could nicely sum up exactly what to look out for the with MPX220, how it compares with the 6620, and what I should look for in one? I'd appreciate it a lot.

What do you mean what to look out for? There are absolutely NO problems with this handset!

Ha ha.

Seriously though, I don't even know what's wrong with it, I've just gotten some faces when I mention it. The phone looks SWEET, apparently is pretty powerful, and I've liked all the previous V-series Motorolas I've had, so I'm just wondering what the issues with this phone are and if it's still worth getting it despite them.

Can I fix the issues? Will getting it off E-Bay make that a problem? Just what the heck is wrong with it anyways?

My problems that I've had "I'm on my fourth one" have been:

1st Phone - Couldn't hear anything, had ROM .343 Cingular
2nd Phone - Dropped calls, sporatic signal when not moving, had ROM 1.3 Cingular
3rd Phone - Quit charging, creaking flip, had ROM 1.3 Cingular
4th Phone (Current) - Stable for the most part, have ran ROM 1.3 (Cingular), 1.25 (Generic), and now 1.39 (AT&T Custom)

The main thing to look out for is the battery cover, charging port, creaky flip, and scratches of course The ROM isn't an issue; you can flash that yourself to whatever you want to. IMHO the Moto is leaps and bounds above the Nokia. This is the closest thing to a "Computer" in this size form-factor. The processor in this thing is absolutely amazing; much better than other smartphones, such as the SMT5600. In fact, if you go to Jbenchmark, I hold the record for Jbenchmark2 under lacroixdp Another benefit of this phone is the fact that it is so customizable... the Windows Smartphone platform is very customizable; plus you have the power of the .NET programming architecture, something that trumps Java.

If you get one that isn't defective, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I've had both the 6620 and mpx220 (well, several 220's) and liked both.
