BitShow Released!

Are you confused about how to create .bit wallpapers for your LG phone? Don't know how to use a hex editor or how to create a 16bppRGB565 image file? Forget all that and download BitShow, the only program specifically written to create .bit files for your LG phone! After installing BitShow, browse to a folder containing images, optionally crop and change the brightness, contrast, gamma and saturation, and save! It couldn't be more simple!

BitShow is completely FREE and was developed by me with Visual Studio in Visual Basic.NET. It does require that you have the .NET framework installed on your computer, and will offer to install it during setup if it's not found. Get your copy today and enjoy the simple way to create and manage your .bit wallpaper files.

Download BitShow 530Kb

BitShow creates wallpaper files but does not upload files to your phone. Therefore you'll need to install another program for this task. I'm using BitPim Version 0.7.21 - official Development Version. I have no affiliation with BitPim or its creators, I just really like it and recommend it! Of course you will also need a data cable with the correct drivers installed to use BitPim. My setup is a LG VX3200, a FutureDial #19 cable from Radio Shack (cat. 17-0792) with drivers downloaded from FutureDial's website.

BitShow is a FREE program that contains absolutely NO spyware, adware or other garbage. Send your comments, questions and feature requests to me at Stump842@gmail.com

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

Hi, this is Stumpy842, the author of BitShow. I've tried this program on 5 different computers here at home, 3 running Windows XP SP2, and 2 running Windows 98SE. They all work fine. I can only recommend that you make sure you are running the .NET framework v1.1 with the latest updates (check on windowsupdate.microsoft.com). BTW, what version of Windows are you running?

Incidentally, the last assembly shown in the exception log you posted refers to an assembly named ewwl8hbt in system.dll. I did a Google, Yahoo and Dogpile search for ewwl8hbt and came up with NOTHING! I'm thinking it could be viral in nature... perhaps you need to scan your system? If you don't have any AV software you could try AVG Free from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/Get+AVG+FREE/lng/us/tpl/v5

Or you could try one of the online scanners such as Trend Micro Housecall. Let me know if this helps.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 with the lates .NET framework and also get a ton of error messages.

Uninstalled the program...going to go back to using my photo editor to create all my wallpapers.

Was hoping to try out your program to see if creating wallpapers were any easier...took a look at the different tabs and couldnt really tell what features your program adds over my current photo editor program...

Dont really know what a *.bit image adds over a JPG image...my VX8000 works fine with JPGs.

.bit image format is used by the LG VX3200 and others as the Power On, Power Off and Wallpaper files. In BitPim they are located under the download directory as poweroff.bit, poweron.bit and wallpaper.bit. This phone will not work with normal image formats such as .bmp or .jpg, that is why I wrote BitShow. I realise that other models such as yours WILL accept .jpg etc so if that works then so much the better.

As far as adding anything over other imaging programs, there isn't anything special in BitShow, in fact other programs have lots more capability such as resize, rotate, flip, mirror, greyscale, sepia and much more that I really didn't want to add. It would be a simple matter to process an image in another program and then just use BitShow to convert it to the correct .bit format needed by the phones like the VX3200 which use this format.

If you are getting errors using BitShow I can try to help, but it would be better if you could post the text from the error so I could get a better idea what might be causing the error.

BitShow was created primarily to ease the task of converting to the .bit file format. There are other programs which will save an image with the correct format (128 x 128 pixels, 16bppRGB565 with rows flipped) and can be used with a hex editor to strip the .bmp header and replace it with the four bytes 80 00 80 00 to create a .bit file. But BitShow is much easier and after all, it's free!

If you want a good free hex editor I recommend HexEditor. A free program which will save .bmp files in 16bpp (64k colors) is 20/20 by byLight Technologies. It was available from http://www.hotfreeware.com/2020/2020.htm but the site seems to be down currently. You could try a search for 2020s.zip; that's the download name (I tried to attach it to this message but its size of 3MB is larger than the 2MB limit allowed).

You need to be running the latest version 1.1 .NET framework with the SP1 installed (note this is Service Pack 1 for the .NET framework, not a Windows XP service pack like XP SP1 or SP2). Download it from here:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

Please let me know if this fixes your problem

Thank you very much for the reply and YES, it solved
the problem!
The program works very smooth without a glitch!
Let me ask though, when I save a file to the .bit format, would I then place it in the BitPim/Wallpapers folder so as to bring it into the phone? I ask because I did that but BitPim didn't display the picture.
I might be in the same situation as far as my vx8000 can accept jpg etc. ?
All in all though for those of you who have phones that cannot use any other format except .bit, this is a nice easy to use utility!

I'm not even sure if the VX8000 supports the .bit file format for wallpaper... the directory/file system is different for different phone models (and, I gather, different service providers). For the VX3200 the files are named poweroff.bit, poweron.bit and wallpaper.bit and are saved in the download folder in the phone.

Of course you can always use BitShow to save your wallpaper as a 16bpp565 bmp, that is, 64k colors. The resulting file will be smaller than a normal 24bpp (16M color) bmp but will look just as good on the phone, which can only show 64k colors anyway... this will help save memory usage on the phone.

Thank you, Thank you a million times thank you!

I have been able to do the ringtones for my LG vx3200 phone easily but wanted to get my own pictures on the phone. I was told by vendors and LG themselves this was not possible. I knew better. I have toyed around with hex editor and bitpim and datapilot sometimes ready to pull my hair out until I came upon your program Bitshow. Works wonderfully, I did have to upgrade my .net software because I was getting error, but the upgrade totally cleared that up. This is soooooo much fun and easy. Thanks once again!
