Has anyone seen V635 faceplates for sale yet? had a nice gold one on my V600, the silver supplied is boring, only place i've seen em is http://metalfaceplates.com but as I'm in the UK, its a pain to send them over amd have a naked phone in the meantime !!! also, I'd like to keep original case for if I ever sell/have warranty problem etc.

I am buying OEM faceplates from a dealer, they are shipping it to me, then I am going to get chad martini to powdercoat them for me.

It is available on eBay for cheaper, but the username on eBay is free_shipping_and_handling

Thanks for the reply quinyu, just checked the user on Ebay, ad says the cover is compatible with V600/V620/V635 , the cover is different on the V635 as it has a half cutout for the Motorola symbol, so unless they are selling 2 different types of covers, one for V600/V620 and one for V635, in same auction, I don't think the cover would fit the V635?

It says that you have to specify your order, when you buy it.

Chad's turnaround time in very fast. Say if he'd work on it as soon as it received mine and sent it back to me 2 days later. Since I had a backup phone to use so I didn't have to carry a naked V635 around.

Yes, I suggest you use a backup phone, since faceplates are not just for looks, but really do protect your phone.

not yet, i just send in my faceplate tho and for much less money, he is painting my plate instead of brand new ones.

Anywhere between 20-25 bucks if you send yours to him. And if you want chrome plated, then it would be more. I sent mine to him and he coated it and sent it back in very little time. Now he is married and might be busy with the honeymoon hangover.

I emailed Chad asking him if he would paint my entire phone black. He said no, he only does the faceplate and not the housing. I emailed 'cnn.cn' to ask if they have black faceplates with the housing, he said no, he said he suggested to get the black faceplate and use a V600 or V620 battery cover along with it.

So since no one has found where they are available yet, you think its a good idea to just paint the phone?

anyways, i'm going to pacific mall today, they have tons of cell phone accessories. hopefully they got some new stuff or something. will keep you posted.

Chad won't chrome or gold plate an individual faceplate. Does the V6** battery door fit on the V635???

Not a good idea to just paint the phone. Maybe if it was like a Nokia 3560

Althought they look similar, but no, not a perfect fit and you could damage the spring on the V635 to secure the battery cover. I did. But put a thin piece of plastic at the bottom of the battery fixed it. Don't paint it, I did that too. It just didn't look right. Mine is coated by Chad with a Black Wrinkle finish.

Is chad still doing the faceplates? So you send him your faceplate and then he will coat it then he will send it back? I want the chrome finish or the 24k.

Chad can only powder coat/texture your faceplates if you send them in to him.

If you want 24k, or chrome, you have to wait until he gets the battery doors. I believe chome plating and 24k is done by the batch.

I spoke to him about this already, sorry.

He does when he has the faceplates in stock. He turned my faceplates around same-day; really fast turnaround (2 textured)

The service is of excellent quality, and highly reccomended.

Chad will have the V635 battery doors very soon, though, maybe even next week, and will be selling the chrome and 24k faceplates as soon as he gets the faceplates in stock.

Wow this chad guy is very creative. I just pre-ordered a V635 from my friend who gets phones shipped to him and he should be getting it within 1-2 weeks then I will contact Chad. So you just email him right and take it from there?

mobilefun in the UK do some for the V635, although not the battery cover.
I got Chrome for mine and a chrome battery cover for a V600 and
modded it to fit - all you need is a dremell and some care and patience !!!

glorfingal - do you have any pics of your phone. I was going to dremmel out V600 plates but I thought I read that there are areas that really don't fit. So everything fit well once you dremmeled?

they are actually physically different. Thepart of the housing nearr the top where the antenna screws in is bigger on the v635 and the v635 battery door is cut lower to accomodate this.. i'll post a pic when i get home from work.

Ireally annot wait for Motorola to release OEM faceplates for the vy635. The finish on the black that this guy Chad does it way to glossy for me. It blends with the bezel which is not what I want. I want a matte finish like the OEM silver.

Very soon. They are inbound. Many more colors will be beginning to pop up within the next month finally! Chrome is still going to be at least a month and a half or so...

As to using a V600 battery cover - It can be done - as I said all you need is
a dremell, some grind stones and patience. The only physical difference as
pointed out is at the top where the aerial screws in. Everything else lines up
sweet.

It's not my best metal work but .... have a look at the attached !

Yes, this is possible, and good job. And no idea yet on prices. eBay will help me determine that. I DEFINITELY have V635 faceplates inbound. Its just a matter of time now!

I JUST NOTICED .... I ordered Set of V635 Face Plates from WWW.CNN.CN
But looking closer at BACK BATTERY DOOR especially the EDGE of it By phones ANTENA it looks like it was SHAVED to FIT V635. I'm thinking this might be Actual V600 Plate just SHAVED to fit V635. It has MARKS on the Inside EDGE from DRAMEL tool.
I even took second LOOK to make sure ... and YES they are definetly SHAVED on the Inside Edge (at least my is) ... so please be advise about this.

true but the metalfaceplates site is a total ripoff. $80 for just the faceplates? thats almost half the cost of the phone. That better include a 256 tf or something. I heard you can jsut send them in and get it done for $20, whats up with that?

yeah.. the high price is probably because of the high demand for them.. simple economics really.. just remember the v600 plates were roughly the same price about 6 months ago, until he dropped them to like 35.. but once again.. that was most likely a supply and demand issue as well.. and yes.. you can do the core exchange where you send in your plates and get em done for $20.. i should be expecing my plates back sometime this week

the v600 plates didnt have diagrams in it, but the one in the picture does.. so who knows

Actually the $1 ones I bought for the V600 did... the dark blue and the red ones had the diagrams in white.. I no longer have them but that I do remember.

metalfaceplates.com looks like it does terrific work, but I'm not going to spend $80 for a set. WOW!! Guess I'll be stuck w/ cheap-looking OEM ones....

I just my black glossy faceplates from cnn.cn. Delivery took about 9 days (including weekends).

Anyways, i dont have pictures to post up yet but it looks like the back cover is v635 faceplates. The image inside of it is a v635. If it was a shaven v600, i can't tell.

However, i've noticed that the back cover is loss because the hole at the bottom of it is too wide. I can pretty much move it side to side. I'm a little annoyed about that.

Maybe metalfaceplates.com have better qualities... but $85!!!

I'll post some pics next week. I'll be away this weekend.

oh, has anyone tried removing the bezel yet? I just want to know how to do it properly. -thanks

I just got my black face plates from cnn.cn too. In fact, the original back faceplate that came with my v635 had a loose fit the way you described and could be moved side to side. I found it rather annoying. The new black one I got has a much tighter fit and doesn't move around once it's in place. It also looks like the black faceplate is made from thinner metal than the original silver one, but I don't think it's a big deal.

There's a little give on the top faceplate, about the same for the original one and the new black one, but it moves much less than the original bottom plate.

I really like the new face plates. I also ordered a black v620 oem antenna from them along with the face plates to complete the look. I think it looks so much better in black, and the tighter fitting bottom plate makes it feel much more solid.

The only think I don't like about the glossy finish is how easily it gets smudged with finger grease... I'd prefer a black metal plate with the same matte finish the original plates have. metalfaceplates has a flat black option which I think is basically that. But given the price difference, the cnn plates work just fine for me...

its not advertised but you can send in your plates and get it black matte from metalfaceplates.com and it would only cost $20 plus shipping. Much cheapter than $80. Then get the v620 oem antenna and your pimpin it!

anyone know a cheap place to get a v620 antenna....cheapest i know is ebay for 10...but for 20 i can get antenna bezel and plates.....

i just tried taking off the antenna on my v635, and i noticed an immediate change in the reception bars and the edge sign.. just wondering if replacing the antenna with a stubby one or a flat one will affect the reception

I have a similar antenna on my V635 and it works as good or better than the stock antenna (but of course your mileage may vary). And I don't get jabbed by the antenna anymore when the phone is in the holster!

Your welcome

Installation is dirt simple, just make sure your hands are clean. You get enough friction by pressing on the antenna like a thumbtack. As for removing it, you'd probably need a set of needlenose pliers, preferably with rubber tips, or at least wrap the tips in electrical tape to prevent the pliers from scratching the antenna. Should come out fairly easy since you can't exactly get it all that tight when you install it.

I was checking chad's website www.metalfaceplates.com and from what i have notice it seems that chad has lowered his price.... and i think he is still doing free shipping for hofo members....

the mirror black looks sick!!!! and the pearl white would match my ibook... i rather order from chad than cnn it might cost a lil more , but honestly u get it in days and colors that arent available to the non phone techie....

You obviously have no idea the work he puts into it. It's not a factory knockin em out 20+ a minute, you are paying for custom work. If you want them pay for it, if you don't....well you know

I am hoping mine come in next week, it's a fairly good bet to say no one else in Ottawa will have them, and if I'm wrong, it sure as heck won't be alot of people that do have them.

Mine just came yesterday. BEWARE, the fit isn't too good. It slides in and clicks in place, but it looks like it was meant to be used w/ a slightly different shaped Bezel. Also when the faceplate is in place, it is slightly higher than the bezel. I'll post pics later today.

In fact, the only way I've managed to see an obvious effect is by leaving the phone with no antenna screwed in at all.

In any case, I like the way it looks with the 1mm antenna so I'm going to be keeping that one screwed in and take the stock or XXL with me if I plan to be somewhere with a really weak signal.

I recently talked to Chad and BOY is he busy but rest assure he will come through with them faceplates... I had a mirror black done a while back and it was HOT!!!

recently i had my v3 done and... you get what you pay for with Chad, and for those who says it insane to spend $50 on faceplates, my reply is i rather play $50 my v3 or my v635 then buy plastic ones or paint them myself... Powder coating will last you far longer period of time, and the colors he provides arent available anywhere but at his website....

ok.... Chad can and WILL do v3 exlcuding the plastic parts but you have to take off the parts and send it in. He has SAID repeatedly that he will not take apart each phone and put it back together.

When taking apart outer faceplate, you must take apart the screw frame, and when taking apart the battery cover, you must remove the insert. Lastly, he CAN do the interior but you will have to take apart the hinge, and EVERY part....

For the people who ordered the Glossy Black Faceplates from CNN.CNN, do fingerprints show up very easily on them?

Because I wouldn't mind having a shiny/glossy/mirror black at all, it's just that these are usually more prone to fingerprints. If so, I might just end up getting the flat black from metalfaceplates.

Errr, did you now see fuzions pics up above? Looks like they mark up pretty easy to me. That's one reason why I went with the black ripple.
BTW- the black ripple isn't really as sparkly as it looks in my pics above, that's the flash from my s710a reflecting off it

The color is more in between flat and gloss black with a nice feeling texture.

Yeah, I did see the pictures but thought that the finger prints might've been made more OBVIOUS by taking close-up pictures with the flash. I don't mind the finger prints as long as they aren't so obvious. Hmmm... like if I'd actually have to hold the phone up to see them.

I've got the cnn.cn black plates as well. The colour and finish are a close match to the black bezel and marks up with fingerprints roughly to the same extent. It would be nice to see some stock or 3rd party bezels in different colours/finishes. I'd particularly like to see a flat metal bezel, to avoid fingerprints and hinge scratching.

yeah, tell me about it - I've got a nasty scratch right down the middle of my bezel (bought the phone used for 2 weeks, so the guy must have had his keys in his pocket or something). I'd like something other than black, but looks like I'll have to settle.

i used spray paint glossy black
primer
and a clear coat
but i found out the hard way
the paint chips and is all bumpy .. and it takes a lot of work
almost 2 days

Hey im finally all caught up with my orders! I am going to finally be able to find some time this week to get the Core Exchange page re-built and to get some emails answered! I apoligize for not answering. Just so overwhelmed lately with the release of the V635 faceplates. Its just unbelievable. And I actually found some time to spend some "quality time" with my wife this weekend. We went to visit the Erie Zoo and just hung out together. It was nice.
