I think someone tried asking him (dennis?) via email and got a testy response that didn't answer the question.

I thought I would ask this here instead of starting a new thread...How the hell do I take the cover off?

I've managed to do it once to insert the mem. card. I'm trying to do it again, but I think I might end up breaking the phone.

I checked the manual but its in german, it points to two spots on the cover for easy removal but it isnt working for me.

sorry, about the noobish question, but any help would be appreciated.

On top where the hinge faceplate meets the hinge. Pull down the faceplate from there.

Also: If i would make it more chrome how would i start since it is Kinda chrome?

tried pulling it down, not working. I figure it must be easy enough, but when I try it, it feels like I'm about to break it off.

I checked the manual again, and there are two arrows pointing to the sides of the "M" for easier removal, and that hasnt worked for me either

stick your fingernails in the gap between the bezel and the faceplate (where the arrows are pointing to in the manual) and pull down.

I just ordered my Phone (FleaBay) and the black faceplates/black V620 antenna (cnn.cn).
Now I just wish we could get a black housing

I just ordered my from cnn.cn too. I tried metalfaceplates.com but Chad didn't get back to me in time ... and also $60 from MetalFace... compare to $20 for the same FacePlate from CNN.CN is a big Difference

I dont have any V635 bezels yet. Especially not any Chrome ones. If I do get them, I will only get the original OEM black ones. He must be spray painting it or something. My guess.

On a side note.....Chrome Plated V635 faceplates will be here pretty darn soon though! Getting close! Prob 2-3 more weeks, if that.

The Guy who POSTED Pictures of V635 in BLACK HOUSING ... he stole these from someone on EBAY who was actually Selling this Phone ... People in his THREAD found out about it and they are Bashing Him, so it wasn't actually him who Painted it Black.

2 OEM V635 housings - $30
Black V635 Metal Faceplates - $20
Black Motorola Antenna - $3
The looks on my friends' faces when I show them my black V635 - Priceless

I know you have to sand down the faceplates if you're going to paint them because they're metal but I'm not too sure about sanding the plastic. Seems unnecessary, I'll let you know how it goes in a few days

I work at sherwin-williams and we carry a spray paint called Krylon Fusion, its made for painting plastics.

true indeed, but with the krylon i recommend sanding down with at least 3 coats done in 3 days. One coat a day, because the plastic takes MORE than the req. 15 minutes it says. If you mess up sand it back down, but I krylon works!!

I was trying to find V635 Sticker (one that goes on the bottom of KayPad) on www.cnn.cn I know he has them because when i ordered my V635 housing it came with it ... but i kind of LOST it. I can't see it on his website anymore, anyone knows where i can find it (Ebay doesn't have them)

I was the one who said they don't fit well, lol. The faceplate is VERY slightly raised (not really a problem), but there are slight gaps on the bottom corners. The bezel is slightly rounder and the faceplate is more angled.

Unless someone looks at it up close, or you point it out nobody really notices.

Yeah, I'll try in a little bit and see if I can get them to show in the picture. It's actually the gaps that are more annoying. There is also some space on the sides towards the bottom. It would be nice to find a bezel to fit this faceplate.

EDIT: BTW, to answer your question earlier they ARE from eBay. & you can see the angling differences I mentioned earlier in this picture:

. On the left side, you'll notice that the faceplate is angled while the bezel is rounded.

Yepp. I used a little mini flat head screwdriver. Slid it under and it popped right off. It took about 1 minute to remove the old one and install the new one which sticks on very securely.

I didn't make any noise. My heart just sank and I was so disappointed. I got chipper fairly quickly when I remembered I could fix it. Mainly I was mad at myself, because I am normally so good at taking extremely good care of my phones.

Oh yes, I do think so. You forget that it is not just a coat of paint that is slapped on, or that it is not off a manufacturing line, that they are custom jobs done by him. Core exchanges are not mentioned either, nor is there any mention of all the different colors and patterns that are available, that you won't find at cnn or elsewhere as of yet.

I don't doubt that his price will drop a bit once he gets caught up on things, as 60usd is a bit steep for some when the black one is also available at cnn (if I wanted plain ol black, I would use cnn myself in this case), but not too bad considering what he offers. And it's only $5 for shipping, don't recall if that's included in the stated price or not. I myself paid 25usd for a core exchange, shipping incl on my Black Ripple plates.
What I would like to see is a comparison w/pix of the black from cnn and the black from metalfaceplates in about 3 months by people who take care of their cells, to see which one is in better shape. I doubt the same process is used to make them, but you never know.

Yes, You have to consider that Metalfaceplates are hand painted by himself and he has to put his time and effort into each of them and you can tell by his quality of work.

consider it this way as well.. those that are sold through ccn.cn are most likely mass produced, not always from Motorola directly even though they have the "M" wings insignia... fitment might be an issue. those sold from Metalfaceplates are custom powdercoated through manual labor... it's the quality that you're paying for.. if you feel $60 is too much for faceplates.. then maybe it is.. To me it is.. but if I really wanted to buy some quality custom colored plates I'd contact Chad about them... otherwise if you just want something different than the standard silver get those from cnn.cn... either way just be sure to post up pics of it afterwards...

they arent painted they are powder coated..

I don't know if any of you have done any research on powder coating, but it's freaking expensive to get into and continue to do. You have to have the right equipment, chad has TONS of colors (some of those can get pretty pricey too), and in addition you have to have a kiln or oven specifically dedicated to powder coating. It's not an easy thing to do, either. You have to have everything magnetized correctly and make sure you get an even layer of what is pretty much powedered paint on a tiny faceplate. It can be very labor intensive and if you mess up, you have to sand the whole thing down and start over.

I suck at taking pictures. you can just barely see the multicolor reflection on those flakes in the blue one. It's awesome in direct sunlight, but we haven't had much of that lately. Once I get more used to this new camera and get some sunlight on the plates, I'll try to post more pics. everyone compliments me on my phone, and I'm the only person I've ever seen with a v635, much less a sparkly blue one. The core exchange was easy and quick, and fairly inexpensive for such a quality job. Totally worth it.

What's involved with the vinyl dye? I had the black HS850, but it was defective and I had to send it back, then the buggers sent me a grey one as replacememnt. I would rather it black, to match my other hardware

mirror black on plastic would be the same as glossy... none the less, it'll look nice.. I wondering if and when Motorola will have a v620-like counterpart for the v635.. that rubberized faceplate finish was cool

sorry but i dont think cnn.cn sells stubbies they only sell regular OEM antennas. You could buy a chrome stubbie on ebay or daydeal.com or if bluedayz(bluedayz.com) still sells them from him.

Does the gloss black faceplate get smudged or get prints easily? I have the v620 in flatblack and I love the finish. Was thinking of getting the gloss from cnn or metalfaceplates but was afraid of smudging. Any care to chime in?

Sorry but this is a little off topic. I was just wondering if anyone knows a site where you can buy the "thumbtack" style of antenna for the v635. The daydeals website has a 5mm high antenna but none any smaller (as far as i can tell) any help would be great.

Have you looked for them for the v600 or v620? They will also work for the v635.

I also found some on ebay for under $10 CAD. Getting a powder coated one from Chad is tempting but i dont think i can stomach the $20 USD price especially if its the thumbtack type and you will only be seeing a tiny circle of color. If I were to buy anything from Chad it would be the faceplates those look very pro.

the antennas were made by bluedayz and chad had to buy them and then he hand powdercoat them. Bluedayz sells the antennas 18.00 each and there just Silver. 20.00 is a good deal.

Im just saying I'd rather get a cheaper un-powdercoated antenna that hopefully performs just as well. Personally it just doesn't seem worth it to me to get a powder coated 1mm antenna (which is sorta "invisible"). It would be more justifiable to me if you were getting a stubby or full sized antenna coated to like make an all black phone or some other kind of personalized color scheme.

Quality and workmanship. Chad's are like Mercedes Benz and cnn.cn's are like VW. Both would work but you get what you pay for.

I have no idea where Chad get his from. However, I sent him mine and he did it in very little time and returned them for me. If he gets the Motorola OEM parts, then it would be thicker and heavier than the cnn.cn aftermarket parts. On the same token that you could scratch a Mercedes as easy as a VW. But Chad powder coated is pretty tough IMO. I dropped the phone a couple times and no scratch.

If you just want shiny black faceplates, get a cheapy set from cnn.cn, if you want a custom, hi-quality job and want to choose the color and design and texture that appeals to you the most, go with Chads work. Worth every penny.

BTW: You can check out the V600 section to get an idea of the other colors etc he has available, where the pix are not available for the V635.

Couple of questions. When the V600/V620 plates at metalfaceplates first came out were they also $60-$65 USD as well? And if so does anyone remember roughly how long it was till the price dropped to what it is now ($30 USD).

When the v600 came out the faceplates cost about 75.00+ thats how big the demand was for the v600. Just send in you plates right now for i think 25.00? im not sure but its better if your not looking to spend 65.00. Chad has a good turn around time.

Yea I've considered that but then i'll be phoneless for a little while (less than a week i hear) and if i have problems with the v635 then im gonna want the stock plates on there when i go in. If i buy a spare set of plates it wouldn't be much more to get the coated ones from cnn.cn. If the plates where $30 I'd buy them right now but hell thats supply and demand for you. He has every right to charge whatever he wishes. I'm sure I would in his position

Just as a side note, powder coated surfaces are very scratch resistant. I'm not sure how the cnn plates hold up to scratches.

What I did was order the stock plates from cnn.cn, then did a core exchange on my originals since they had a ding on them from when I bounced my V635 off the floor.
That was a little bit ago, the core exchange price at the time was 25USD.
I'm going to be ordering the flat blacks soon as well

For the chrome plates and gold plated. You CANNOT get a core exchange for those two type of finish you can only buy them last time i heard.

Sent it my V635 plates to Chad and am getting them back monday....he did my trumpet stand too...pics on his website. Also ordered a copper vein bluedayz. Will post pics on Monday night. Can't wait...the copper vein plates are going to be pimp.

Finally...finally...FINALLY!!!! Today is the day. I have built up my inventory and I am now FINALLY taking pics of all of the Powder Coated V635 faceplates. Between today and tomorrow, I will be adding pics for 13 NEW COLORS for the V635 on the website. And the WEATHER is absolutely perfect today! Throughout this week, im also going to be getting a ton of Nextel i860 new colors up as well. Im excited im finally getting to this point!

EDIT: Holy crap, I just noticed how many posts I have and look at what todays date is!!

Well, get whatever you think is best. Thanks, "himself", for the praise. I think a black would look good with the yellow...I remember seeing it somewhere, but don't remember where it was. Stubby is good if you want it small, and thumbtack is good if you want unique and stylish. I'm sure Chad would love to help you choose.

Haha clearly "that" in "that looks really nice.." specifically refers to the black V635 I mean it looks pretty specific to me...*cough*...anyway your copper vein phone looks pretty crazy. I dunno if I would ever choose a textured plate but yours is pretty unique. I imagine it turns a lot of heads

And yea scratching is a problem since if you do get a scratch it is CLEARLY visible on mirror/gloss black plates not so on the textured plates (i would imagine). I like to think im careful with my phone so hopefully I won't get any major scratches.

If anybody here hasn't noticed yet, Chad's updating the colors....new ones added! I'm loving my V635 so much, chances are I'll keep it long enough to buy a second set of metalfaceplates.

BTW, off topic, have you guys seen the Nokia 6682 for Cingular? I got to check one out today...pretty nice....doesn't stand up to my V635, but pretty cool phone. Of course, I'd never buy a Nokia, lol, but it looks good...mpixel camera

They do not scratch easily. They are professionally chromed. If you use common sense, and put the phone down on something soft like a mousepad, you will not have any problems. Or just open the phone up and put it down on the inside. And if you put it in your pocket, dont put anything else in your pocket with your phone. I dont recommend putting the phone in a case, because that just defeats the whole purpose of having chrome plated faceplates....to show them off, and to feel the feel of chrome! I have sold hundreds upon hundreds of these Chrome Plated faceplates for various different models and have never had any complaints. In fact, I get return customers all the time. Sure, of course they are going to scratch if you put the phone down on something coarse.....so will just about anything. If you take care of them, they will last you forever. Just like anything else in life. If you dont believe me, read my testimonials, and ask other people that have bought them in the past. As for the price, if you can wait just a little while longer, it will be coming down for sure. I just released them the other day, and of course the price is high. Thats how it works. Hope this helps.

As long as you don't let your wife or girlfriend to use, the chrome would last forever. When they put it inside the purses, it's ruined. But despite the scratches, the faceplate still shines and you have to look really close to see the scratches. Great job, Chad.

Yeah, I'm not saying they're super-easy-scratchable, I'm saying they scratch easily by how I take care of my phone. I holster mine, so it is subject to scratches and stuff. The scratches I got on my chrome were from negligence and could have easily been avoided.

I got my V600 from eBay, which included a pair of Chad's chrome faceplates. The phone was sent to an unlocker before it got to me. Unfortunately, the phone had on the chrome faceplates (oems included) and were left on the phone when shipped to the unlocker. The seller claimed that they were scratchless when they left his town, so I guess the unlocker scratched it

. Two days after the phone was in my hands, it was dropped on the school bus by some girl, which put a nice scratch and ding in them. (prob 4 months ago)

Lesson learned: don't let somebody handle your phone who you don't trust!

This is why I now use textured faceplates. But somebody who is smart enough to not let girls or unlockers handle their phones would be fine with the chromes.

Thats a big negative. They do not fit. You will need to buy V635 faceplates for your V635. Motorola did this on purpose.

I must Chad's faceplates are among the best in the business. For those who says it scratches easily I would have to say BULL. If you handle it with care you shouldnt see any blemish let alone scratches. I've been sending my past 6 v3's to chad to have them powdercoated and every customer has been A+ satisfied. I never bought a chrome one NOT BECAUSE of afraid of scratching but because i hate fingerprints, which is why i gave up my chrome pebl for the rubber one...
