I emailed Chad about a core exchange, got the rate and the procedure instructions. But no mailing address as to where to send the faceplates, is it the P.O. Box address on his website? Anyone help me here?

Hey sorry for the confusion you are having. The address to ship your faceplates to is on my Contact Us page, which is:

Chad Louis Martini
P.O. Box 9472
Erie, PA 16505

It was my fault in the email, I told you my address was on the contact us page.....but I should have just written it out for you. My bad. But there it is, and feel free to contact me with any further questions that you may have!

Chad

Just got my Stardust Blue faceplates from Chad. I sent them saturday morning and got them Wed afternoon. What can I say EXCELLENT service, fast, polite. Perfect transaction. I will post pics soon though. By the way, I did a core exchange for $25, it was an awesome deal, so worth it.

Nice! Looking forward to the pix!
I still have to leave my feedback for my black ripple, I should do that tomorrow I think.
I'm looking at the flat black plates now, or maybe something a little different, something totally unique, oh wait... I'm the only person in the Capital City of Canada that has Custom Powder Coated Black Ripple V635 faceplates from www.metalfaceplates.com by Chad Martini, hmmmm....
Gonna be hard to beat

So what was your net cost?

Posted by: ghstintheshell

Costs, by the numbers:
To ship to Chad: $3.84
Costs of faceplates difference on a core exchange: $20.00
Chad to ship to me: $5.00

Now is the time to check out eBay!

It has been just over 14 months now since I sold my last set of faceplates on eBay. I basically took the time off from it because I was getting married, and I had just launched the new website. But im finally back up and running! Check it out. Let me know what you all think of the new auction format I created...lots of work went into it. Hope everyone enjoys, and good luck bidding if your interested!

, won the Flat Black faceplates for 29.99 total USD , awesome price! They were shipped out today!
Thanks again Chad! *

BTW - here are pix of those mytego skins I ordered...

They Suck. Stick to Chads real deal plates lol
They are no good for the V635 IMHO. Once on, you can't get at the TF card, because the sticker covers the entire front. They don't even cover the sides of the faceplates either. My sister got some for her V300, she's not too impressed with em either, but says she will keep them. At least on hers the sides of the faceplate are covered.
I'm sure these things are good for other items, but unless they go through a design change in regards to the V635, I say don't waste your time or money! I'm waiting for my refund.
They seem like a reputable company and offered me a new set, and when I said no thanks, they said they had no problems with a refund (in accordance with their satisfaction guarantee) after I mailed the skins back to them.

*Yes, yes he did quote himself

I do talk to tons of people every day, but I do remember you because you are the only person that asked me that question. So hey, cool, hope to do biz with you soon! I say buy one of those rough version fronts, send it to me, then u can post some pics up on here....BUT, then again, if people start seeing that, then everyone is going to want it, and i am NOT going to be carrying that style of front faceplate. Guess if they want it done, they will have to buy a set on the bay and send them to me. Take care.

Hey, what in the holy hell is going on here with my number of posts???????????????

Look at this screenshot:

I took that screenshot on September 11th, 2005. I had 911 posts. I sure as hell have posted many times since then, so why are my current posts right now back to 911?

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE MODERATORS? HOW MANY POSTS DO I REALLY HAVE HERE ON THE HOWARD FORUMS? NOW IM VERY CURIOUS.

Has this happened to anybody else? Am I going crazy here or something? Someone please enlighten me on this.

Chad

Posted by: Himself

Hahaha, somethings definitely up, may want to send Howard a few chromes to get things back in order!
Well, now you are 912, so it's looking like you're back on track!

Posted by: RotorMotor

I was thinking of painting my metal pieces, but i want it to have the feel of the v551 (rubber type coating) anyone know one of a spray paint that would be similar to it?

Posted by: drymartini69

And I got this fast response, thanks Moderator HF 11...

Some of the old threads that were deleted were finally removed from the database. On the old forum, deleted threads still counted towards one's post count. Deleted threads no longer count, but the old ones still do. So as those are removed from the database, people with some posts in the that were deleted back in VB2, will notice a decrease in post count.

So I guess im just going to have to deal with it. Oh well, what are you going to do? At least its not just me being ripped off of my post count, its everyone else that has posted in these deleted threads as well....

Chad

Posted by: Himself

Well, just have to keep an eye on your postcount, they can easily add on the difference. I'm gonna keep a close eye on mine from now on, I really don't want it to all of a sudden smack me down to 12 or something

just got my light pink plates from chad today. it was a pleasure doing business with him. I talked to him arranged for my plates to be sent. he was very professional about it. he let me know when he recieved it and when it would be shipped out. the faceplates look very nice a professionaly exactly like the pictures. However i did run into one minor problem. the back plate would not snap on as snug as i wanted. If the phone was bumped the plate would pop off. it seemed the button was not clearing the whole, so i used an exacto knife and scraped a little of the paint off in the hole where the button snaps in and pushed it in a little and it fit exactly how i wanted. Not a big deal, i emailed chad about it and he immediatly called me and gave me different solutions to fix that. it was very good. all in all highly recommend metalfaceplates really great product, and really professional service. And now for the pics!

And some side-by-sides with the Black Ripples I got from Chad as well...

yeh, I'm a victim of poor lighting

The business card that came with the plates was gone before I even had a chance to look at it. I was at work when I opened the parcel and put on the faceplates, and one of my customers had an instant interest so I just handed him the card as it slid out of the package lol

Thanks Again Chad!

Hawaiian boy, metalfaceplates.com for the antennas. That's where I got mine. They're powder coated bluedayz....probably what you're looking for. They under the V600/V620 section (same fit)

$20 for an antenna?

It better give me full bars 24/7 wherever I go!

Oh well, I guess I'll save up for it, and might as well get one of his faceplates also. (so far, this phone is the most expensive phone I owned)

HI Boi,

Well....i have the Copper Vein textured faceplates with the antenna; photos below. What's so great about them is the fact that they don't scratch!!!

I also have a set of his glow in the dark plates, which are great for partying, ect.

I'm going to buy myself a pair of the chrome faceplates for christmas.

Definitely worth the investment.

I've decided to sell my V635 glow-in-the-dark plates.

If anybody is interested, please contact me at soccerdude1239@optonline.net

OEM MetalFaceplates in mint condition, looking to get $30 for them. $50 value.

Nothing wrong with them; I'm looking to put the money towards something else.

Hmmm... Doesn't scratch? Maybe their worth the investment after all.

And I think glow in the dark 'plates are a bit much, because your phone will be seen in the dark, and its easier to steal.

Glows sold to faibs................

Posted by: soccerdude1239

Yeah, they don't scratch... definitely worth the investment.

You could send in your faceplates to get powder coated instead of buying a set.

Only problem is you are away from your V635 for about a week

It's cheaper, but I just bought the set.

Not to change the subject a bit, but for those of you who either show your phones to friends or to salespeople at accessory kiosks, what did they say your phone was with? (what service provider they guessed)

The reason why I ask that question, is because 2 of the 3 stores I looked at accessories, thought the v635 was with Verizon, or Sprint and not Cingular or Tmobile. One even thought that I was with a new cell phone company, because I said it was a GSM unlocked phone

I guess this was a rant, but idk.

Posted by: CoRupT

hehe thats funny i was at the mall talking on the phone with my chrome v635+ bluedayz antenna i got asked what phone that is and what service provider three times. 1 by a T-mobile kiosk, 1 by a Cingular kiosk i walked by and one when i was bought my AX2. They all guessed it was with a foreign Cell phone company and were amazed i was with Cingular.

My v635 with the Blue Wrinkle faceplates from Chad, a mini-chrome antenna from eBay, and self painted parts.

I painted the front because of how badly scratched it was, and sanded down the sharp rubber stop at the top of the phone to keep it from scratching the front again. I painted the battery stub also, so that when I take a picture with the flash it doesn't look horrid (the light normally bounces off the "shiny" stub and into the lens, and this effectively eliminates that).

Clickable thumbnails:

To paint the parts I removed the front and taped up all but the stub, sanded them down with 400 grit paper, and then painted them with Krylon Fusion paint.

Thanks for the great plates Chad!

How's the reception with the powder coated stubby antenna? I'm looking at getting both the V635 Black Wrinkle faceplates and antenna.

Posted by: bikruca

i will let you know when I get mine....

I have heard (somewhere) that it shouldn't matter very much as long as i is a quality antenna and hits the contacts right it should do the trick.

I will do a test with both and let you know

I would have, and very well could have definitely sold it by now, but the front faceplate has a factory defect. It is unlike any other front faceplate that I have ever seen, and believe me, I have seen thousands. First, take a look at the pics, then I will explain: (You can click the pics to view larger views in a new page)

As you can see inside the circled blue line, the top of the faceplate is just a little shorter. This is called a 'no-fill' in the tool and die industry. Anyway, in all honesty, it really does not look that bad at all. Its just not 'perfect'.....so I cant sell it. SO..I thought I would give someone here a chance on it. I will actually do an even trade for a regular silver set that is not defective like this is. The back is perfect...nothing wrong with it. So if anyone wants it, make me an offer in email. This is a very rare thing that I would do, normally I would just take the dumb faceplate and throw it away, and not even bother, but for some reason, I chose not to this time. It really is a nice set. So what do you think....anyone interested?

Hey thank you very much. I really do appreciate your comment on my artwork, and thank you everybody else that I missed. Its my artwork. And I sure hope so as well, that Moto releases more new phones with REPLACABLE metal faceplates. Yes the Razr is cool, has metal faceplates, but man its just a pain in my ***....to be blunt. The average person wants cool faceplates for it, but has no idea what is required to chage the faceplates, which just complicates everything. Not to get all into that....

Anyway, I really do hope that Moto comes out with some more cool phones with replacable metal faceplates. For the sake of my future baby! Speaking of which, I dont think I have shared the good news with all of you....my wife and I just found out on Monday December 5th that she is pregnant with our first! We both are so extremely excited! Her due date is August 12th. We dont know the gender yet...its still too early, but as soon as the baby is ready to reveal what he or she is.....were definitely going to find out.

OK, sorry, got off topic there, so ya, please make more metal faceplates Motorola!

Posted by: Donkey

WHOOOEEEH, Congratulation! I too sold my V635 and staying with Verizon using a Verizon V3c. I sure hope they would come up with some replaceable faceplate so I can get some from you. Your work is truely an art! There is no comparison out there. Please take good care of your wife from now on, not to let her lift heavy stuff....

Not to confuse you any more than necessary....I would choose neither. I would personally go for the Blue Stardust:

Thats just my opinion. But thats why I have many colors, uh, ya, to confuse you. lol

Ah.
Never had that problem, the back plate does come off when I plug in my datacable while having the black ripples on, hardly an issue for me though. I figure it's because of the extra texture of the material.
Why don't you email chad, I'm sure he has a solution for you.

Got em, they look great!
I don't even have to take pix, because you already did that

Why don't you email chad, I'm sure he has a solution for you.

Just give me a call at 814-450-3251 which is my business cell phone, and I will simply explain to you how you can fix this. It is a problem with all Moto V600/V620/V635 phones, and there are some solutions. It basically has to do with the spring that makes that silver tab pop out. Basically just take apart the phone, and squeeze the spring together more to put more tension on it, and that is one way to fix it. Call me for more info.

Chad- got the orange and gloss white faceplates in yesterday and they look GREAT. Pics to come later.

In the meantime, I'm having the same trouble with the back piece popping out/being loose. I tried bending the metal so that the silver tab has more room to pop out. It kinda works, but if you have a better way can you post it here?

I know your faceplates are good, cause I test every single one first before I ship em on out. What ya need to do is what I said in the post above. Put more tension on the spring that pops out the silver tab. See, the tab is all flimsy now, and it barely works, but once you put some more tension on it, it pops out nice and firm, and it works a hell of a lot better, trust me.

Hmmm, maybe I should make a little tutorial on how to do this to make it easier....sure, ok, ill do it. Infact, it is so easy, I can probably make a simple little video too....

More to follow later hopefully...

Let us all know how you make out.

Chad

Thanks, the video would help me out too.

My tab is beginning to get flimsy.

Here are some pics of the faceplates I got...

wow, the orange and white looks very good!

Alrighty, I have made the video on how to fix your back faceplate being loose and not snapping properly on your V600/V620/V635 phone. This video is 3 Minutes and 43 Seconds long. It is 9.45 Mb in file size. It will play with Windows Media Player. To save this video to your computer, right click while hovering your mouse over the link, and select 'save target as'. Save it to your desktop or wherever you wish. Or just click the link and it should work.

I take absolutely no responsibility for your phone if you break it doing this. If you have any questions, ASK FIRST! I made this video to try to help you out, so good luck!

Oh, and I also wanted to say, when you bend the spring to make it tighter, do NOT bend it so that it is really tight. Just bend it just enough to put more tension on the spring. If you take apart the phone, and bend this spring over and over again, it will eventually break from being bent so much. I broke one of mine, and this is how I know that....lol. Just bend it once, and let it be at that.

HERE IS THE VIDEO

PS, turn up your speakers!

Great instructions Chad- thanks!

Great video!

I'll be doing this whenver I get the proper screw driver... I have a flat nose one that fits fine, but I'm worried about stripping the screws lol.

Well, to late for me. What I did was to cut a little piece of thin plastic (old sim card, credit card..) and slided it between the bottom of the battery and bottom. It worked.

Here's my V635xMetalFacePlatesxLouis Vuitton...

(Obviously I did that myself (^-^))

Faceplates are nice, although reckon I should've got the gloss white (rather than pearl white) after seeing 'christian961's' piece since it's brighter. On the other hand, there's no stubby antenna to match. Decisions, decisions...

Posted by: ThePaolo

I'm thinking the yellow would match well with the LED hole.

Anybody have nice close ups of yellow and the front?

Posted by: hytran

Just got my dark greens in last week...

It actually looks darker in person, almost a British racing green...

Posted by: hofolikeamofo

like a nice triumph?

Posted by: hofolikeamofo

your avatar image totally pwns the hell out of mine

it makes me think mint chocolate chip; my fav ice cream

Posted by: hytran

Now that you mention it, I could go for some of that myself...

And now, here with an opposing viewpoint, is cnn.cn's gloss black faceplates. As long as I was ordering, I got a new lens, bezel and metal plate (with a shiny new M logo)...

3M fine cut rubbing compound and 3M plastic polish work wonders on the bezel. It's a real dust magnet now

Hello,
I was considering on getting this, but i have a couple of concerns, How is the finish on the plates? Does it get finger prints easy? Does it scratch easy? And personally does it look to "Blinged out" in person cuz i wouldnt want it to look overdone either. I was just wondering all these questions since its expensive! So i got to make sure im going to be happy, i was also considering getting the black gloss one from cnn.cn . Thank you for the input.

If you are refering to chads work, all those Qs and more are already answered I believe, just start at page one and read all the posts. Anyway, for the mirrorblack, of course they get fingerprints easily. That's just the way it is for that kind of finish unfortunately.

Alpha43 -

I got my black antenna from eBay, but yes, cnn.cn does have them as well for a bit more $ - look in the V600 or V620 section.

As far as a comparison of the OEM black faceplates from cnn.cn and the powder coated green faceplates from Chad, I offer the following...

Look closely at the green picture - you should be able to discern a slight "orange peel" on the battery cover. Yes, the finish is glossy, but it's not mirror smooth. So, like a textured refrigerator, fingerprints don't show up. It's inherent in the coating - see http://www.saf.com/rightfinish.html[/url] where it says One note of caution about powders: they are prone to orange peel and the coating may appear to be textured.

The OEM faceplates are like glass and pickup fingerprints like mad. Don't eat fried chicken then use your phone

As far as durability, I can't speak about the OEM faceplates as I just got them. Chad's should hold up VERY well - it's a nice, relatively thick coating that has stood up to a couple of 2' drops onto a bus and train floor.

Send him a note - he'll do a core exchange if you send him your old faceplates and charge you less.

As far as twofers, only Chad can speak for Chad

As far as the chrome (and 24k on the V600), well, um, can't say that I have much interest in those so I can't tell you a thing about it. However, having looked into doing my own triple-chrome plating for other projects at one time, I can tell you that the price is higher because the chemicals involved are dangerous and a lot of work is involved.

Thanks alot for all of your feedback! Got to love this place! Well, does he have an email to ask him these questions? or do i have to go straight to the website.
~Alpha~

Posted by: hytran

Yeah, it's listed on his website. As is his number. And he's even contributed to this thread, so theres TWO places to come up with a contact method.

Unless you'd like me to write your e-mail for you, too

Posted by: Alpha43

if you want! nah thats ok, i will see what ill do, and when i do ill post some pics of the phone, again thanks for all the input!

I'm selling my orange V635 faceplates here: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=867967

Well, I'm not sure many around here would understand someone wanting their faceplates to match their tractor, but...

I sent these faceplates off to a friend of a friend in IA that does powder coating (has access to 10K colors and will mix customs as well) - a darn nice match to the PPG acrylic enamel that's on the tractor:

Not bad for $15 plus shipping

BTW, it's called Federal Yellow if anyone cares
