when i open the rom directory, i see files like *.opr and *.edf etc. if i want to make a mixed rom, which one of these do i have to use? For instance if i want to change the 1.40 rom's font style... which one do i have to change? i know *.mlf is for editing and *.opr is for changing att etc...what else? thanks you

mlf is like a table of contents
smf is the system font
oem is the actual firmware
opr is the branding
lng is the language file

im not sure what xkl is but it needs to tag along with whatever language file you use if youre adding a new language to 1.32 or 1.33 (the asian roms) - im not sure about the new asian roms.

someone claimed that the edf file fixed the volume, but i dont believe this is true, as i flashed with every edf file there was and heard no difference. another hofo user found no diff either.

im pretty sure thats all we know right now.

oh... the 2-letter extensions (bl, bt, etc) have -something- to do with the language and sms'ing in other languages, i believe. when we added the att languages to another rom, the only way we could sms with another language selected was if these came over with that language. it could be any number of the files that is actually needed (i.e., it might just be the bl file). no one has tested this yet.

laskuh - one of the things i noticed with the newer 1.39 and 1.40 ROMS is that it takes 5 minutes to flash the phone vs. 1-1.5 hours with the 1.30, 1.25 ROMS, etc. is it possible to flash just the "smf" file? i'm using the 1.40 Asian ROM and would like to use the larger fonts... i just don't wanna reflash and reload everything (in case Sprite Backup chokes). thanks..

yes, you should be able to just flash just the smf file - ive only done this once and it was with 1.32 and 1.33, not the newer asian roms, obviously. you'd have to make that the only thing in the mlf - other than whatever is at the top (i think its max). but youll see what im talking about. the first (and only) numbered item should be the smf file. and i think you have to change something at the top (its just a count of how many files there are total. in some its 15, some 10. i think its called "package number") to 1, since theres only one file.

and im still not understanding why it takes so long with the older ones! it never took that long with mine. hmm...

well... i flashed the smf file and had mixed results; the menu fonts changed (e.g., Start), the titlebar font remained the same, but i couldn't access my contacts. as soon as i flashed the 1.40 smf file, all was ok. i'll sit tight for now. thanks for the suggestion.

i had this problem before - the contacts file is corrupted and theres no way to fix it, because its located in the phones rom. i cant remember if it was because of the smf file or a lng file before.

dang roms. i guess the asian ones are just as testy as they used to be

don't know for sure if my contacts database was corrupt. as soon as i flashed the correct smf file, i could access my contacts without a problem... go figure.
