International txt and Pix msging

Ok, I have been able to send plain text message to my friend in Japan, but when she tries to send to me a pix message, or I try to send her a pix message, it just doesnt work. Anyone got any suggestions? When my vx8000 gets here do you think it will work better? Her phone is very similar to the 8000.
I guess time will tell but I just thought I would ask and see what input I got in return.

Pix messaging only works when you are on the same carrier. I don't know if there are any plans to create a standard like there is for sms.
