PSP Owners- Does your system have any defects?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've been through 4 PSP's in the past week and I finally ended up with a near-perfect one... the only thing wrong with it is a spec of dust under the screen... but I'm not complaining...
Any of you guys have/had similar problems?
So far the defects that I have experienced/heard of are (actually, I've experienced all of these problems):
Dead pixels
Sticky shoulder buttons
Dust under screen
"Mushy" square button
"Dents" in the screen (THE worst)
Abnormally loud UMD drive
and maybe I'm forgetting a few...
The EB employee told me that the dents have been the most common problem... it appears that there are more than 2 protective layers on the screen and the dents appear to go through 2 of them

I have never had a prob with mine. However I have a Jap version that I bought from Ebay.
I won one at work which I will get this week. I will let you know if that one is good.

I have one dead-pixel (very minor)
And I think there's a tiny hair under the screen (not in the way, or anything)
So, I'm happy

About 10 dead pixels, don't really care.

I'm on my 5th... first four all had one or combinations of... dead pixels (right in the middle and clusters of 4-5, sticky shoulder button (just the L), and a umd lid that was too crooked (big enough gap to see the game).
The one i have now, no dead pixels, no dust under screen (maybe will get some later coz the design doesn't look like it's completely sealed). UMD lid's not perfect but one of the better ones that i've had. None of mine had mushy square buttons... they all have felt diff than the other buttons coz the contact pad isn't centered, but it's still ok.

i have an original psp that was purchased on 12/12/04 in japan.
no problems to date.

I have bought mine from Best Buy, It took me 4th PSP to find one with zero dead pixels. Not that dead pixels were that noticable but if i'm paying over $250 for anything, I want something that has nothing wrong with it. Other then dead pixels, no defects here!

I have a launch US PSP. No problems whatsoever.

I just bought my PSP from BestBuy last week and it is Perfect... not one dead pixel or anything.

I've got a US launch PSP as well....and nothing wrong! I was quite surprised actually, cuz when I was getting it, there were guys already in line to exchange theirs cuz of dead pixels, etc....

i stupidly upgraded to 1.5 though. i shoulda kept 1.0 for a little bit longer until a forced upgrade was required.
i heard they will release games that require an update to even play them

I have seen two PSP's with defective batteries.... one of them was mine, another is a friend of mine. I got mine for $175 with two games becouse of the bad battery, and 0 dead pixels...
So I'm not complaining too much

bought mine at my local circuit city on sale $200 no problems at all no dead pixels or anything.

mine has a dent in the screen the size of a pixel so it doesn't really bother me... actually when i went to futureshop they were about to sell me an open one so i told them to open it up so i could take a look at it and right off the bat i see a dent about 1mm in size and scratches on the screen, so i told them i don't want that one or any other ones that have been opened.... seems like they are just trying to sell ones that have been returned.
only bad thing is that the new package didn't come with spiderman

I have returned 2 with "stuck" pixels and both have dents on the screen. My third one has a speck of dust under the cover and the down directional button seems...soft. All from Futureshop. I think i'm going to go to bestbuy and see if I can get a better one if i can, i'll just return the 3rd one from FS. It is so frustrating to be shelling out 300+ dollars and driving back and forth to get a non defective psp!!!

some pixels that are dead
oh and a "mushy square button" was a faulty square button sony made on purpose, who knows why
Posted by: dkny_boi
They made the square button like that because there wasn't enough room from the lcd. They said that if they made the square with the pad under it centered properly then the psp would be overall wider and they didn't want that.

two stuck pixels (not dead). one red and one white.
the worst psp i saw was from a stranger i met in target. i was there to buy a psp, he was there to return it. he showed me how many dead/stuck pixels he had and i was shocked. i stopped counting after 13. i'm going to guess that he had over 50. the guy turned the new one on right after the exchange and he had none. he had the biggest grin on his face.
but the dead/stuck pixel issue is blown out of proportion. people come on forums like this and read about an individuals incident with there psp and they automatically think its going to happen to them.

...well, I have gone through 2 PSPs. First one had 1 dead pixel when I first powered the unit on, and eventually, I began to notice several more. Took that on back to Circuit City and they exchanged it no problem. Second PSP had ZERO dead pixels, but there was a tiny dent in the middle of the screen...I lived with it for a week until I noticed an unsually large amount of dust under the screen...took that one back as well. I just returned that one and will wait until about 6 months to get another one...I refuse to be a beta tester for Sony.
One final thought - - - why can't Sony make quality products like Nintendo? Sony is definately pushing the portable and home video game frontiers...but they are still lacking in the reliability and craftsmanship department...and then they wonder why their units didn't fly off the shelves as fast as they would have liked. Perhaps this is what happens when a company just has too much to offer on too many fronts...

i got one dead pixel, so far thats the only thing i find wrong with it.
just found a dent on the right part of the screen.

Just one dead pixel...and I didn't even notice that until I read alot of posts about the pixel issue. Other than that...she works like a dream. Haven't had dust under the screen...I bought one of those screen protectors by Pelican and keep it in a separate compartment away from everything else. My only complaint about the PSP is I wish they would include a carrying case for the games, WITH the games.

I am quite fortunate not to have any dead pixels. No problems found whatsoever. The only problem found was myself applying the HORI screen protector!!
........I screwed up.
