License-Free Games and Apps (a proof of concept)

In my blog, I wrote an article which is basically a proof of concept that you can get free licensed games (or any app) on your cellphone.

A licensed game is one that you have to renew after a certain period of time (usually every 30 days), and stupidly most games/apps will check the filesystem to see if the license is valid for the current date. For instance, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is a game that requires you to renew a license every 30 days to keep playing, and if you can keep the game from knowing when the license expires, you'll be able to play the game forever (theoretically).

I've found the easiest way around these license restrictions was to open the .jad file for the game/app and edit "Odm-Timestamp:” to “999999999,” rather than whatever number was there before... it's some sort of timestamp, but I haven't been able to figure out how exactly it works.

Anywho, read my blog for more detailed info for editing your LG4600.

I hope this post doesn't break the HowardForums TOS.. and if it does, please delete it. Cheers!

interesting, anyone tried this? i have not bought any games yet since i thought it was dumb to pay like 8 dollars for a game, basically to rent it for a month. Get it now is a joke. But hey if this works maybe it will be worth it.

This defiantely works, on my LG4600 at the least. The method above also works for those 2-day trial games where you pay like 50 cents to rent the game for 2 days to see if you like it, the have to renew the license afterward... so basically you can download trial versions of games, exit the .jad file with the method above, and have the full game with a never-ending license.

I will give it a shot, but like i said i dont currently have any games so let me get this clear. I buy a trial version from get it now. Then to find the jad file you used qpst? How do you edit the odm timestamp to 9999999? Go to brew/media (just an example, i dont know where games are stored), double click the .jad file and it opens to allow you to change the timestamp? Is this correct?

Yeah... with my phone I can edit any file on the phone itself with BitPim.. I just download the .jad that corresponds with whichever game I want to have a free license for, open the .jad in a text editor, and change whatever number is listed after "Odm-Timestamp" to all 9s, then upload that .jad file back onto my phone.

I have no idea if this works for other phones than mine, but I would imagine it's the same for all phones everywhere... Of course, Your Milage May Vary.
