i'm not asking to have my phone unlocked. i have the option of choosing to go with software unlock or IMEI unlock for my phone, and just wanted to know which options others have choosen and why? Pros/cons of either one and which method is the best (safest) way not to damage ur phone.

software unlock uses software on the computer to unlock your phone

imei unlocking only requires that you give someone your imei and they'll retrieve you a subsidy code which you can punch into your phone

both do the same job

Depending on your phone model, you are likely to unlock it using the IMEI method as opposed to software.

i recommend IMEI unlock (via sub code) rather than the sw unlocking (paying someone to unlock it)...why? You can reuse the sub code later on if your phone happens to lock up again for some reason (firmware upgrade?)...with the latter method, you would have to pay them to unlock again.

But it hard to get the software .. you have to search a lot!

It amuses me that the forum has a ban on listing links to unlocking software, when the sponsored Google ads at the top of the page do just that!

<sheesh>

You bumped an old thread just to say that when you could have PM'd a mod to ask why that is, and not only that, but you made it your first post?

Well, let me educate you. This site is payed for by 1 man. And that one man needs to somehow cover his costs, as the price of bandwidth in this site is astronomical. The marketplace sponsors, and banner sponsor's help him cover that.

You can always flash your phone with the subisdy code to "reset it" it wont works for phones that is already unlocked but it insures in future flashing you wont have a locked phone. When i get unlocks for phones like pebls i always flash it with the 8x 0's subisdy code to be nice. (subsidy code: 00000000)

Where does one get that flash?

i found on some forum a long time ago. its a flex that overrides the subisdy code area. but it only works for phones that are already unlocked.
