Data cable ruined battery life 8940

I purchased a data cable off ebay and used it about 3 days in a row. Ever since then my battery life has decreased from about 3 days to 1 day of use. I suspect that the data cable somehow damaged my battery.

When using the data cable the phone does not act like it is charging, but the battery gauge increases

I think I am having the very same problem you are having. I have a 8615 and I got the data cable last week and had it on the phone for 30 min at most. I seems that the life of the battery has shorten a bit.
What I do now is a pull the battery off the phone then plug it into the phone and turn it on. it works, the usb port is providing power to the phone.

If the next few charge ups remain the same then I think I am going to need to buy a new battery.

Yeah, i have been unpluging the battery too. But i think the damage is already done. I have only used it for about 30 minutes as well. It sucks that the phone is only a couple of months old and I need a new battery for it because of this

how menny charges have you gave it after you found out this problem?
and if you did a few, have you seen any longer life to the battery?

Probably about 3 or 4 charges and no improvement. I let the battery completely die, then completely charged it a few times and no luck

I called up audiovox today and they are not aware of this sort of problem. They said that a powered data cable doesn’t do anything to the battery and these batteries are li lon batteries that do not have any memory. I say you call them up and see what they have to say.
I guess the more people complain about this the more they will look into the problem.
I was also thinking, maybe its not the battery that’s not the problem its the phone and how it is consuming power. maybe when you have the battery and the usb power going at the same time, it changes the way the phone consumes power. when u just have the battery the phone consumes as much more then before thinking power is coming from both sources.

Sorry, its not the data cable, it the crappy phone. I have never used a data cable with my 8940 and ran into the same sort of problems with battery life. When new I got 2-4 days usage out of a charge, now im lucky if I get a WHOLE day without the **** thing dying on me.
