M56 - unlocked, fw6, odd behaviour

My GF loves her flashing lights and stuff, and I like this phone a lot...but ever since I put the Siemens FW6 on the phone, it has slowly spiraled down toward irritating. I see that the m55 has FW10 avail, and I would like to flash it on to this phone, assuming that I can. The tools exist, I would imagine - can anyone point me in the right direction for the proper SW to use to reflash it with a m55 fullflash...moreoever, does anyone have a good m55 fullflash? This phone was locked to AT&T, and I have unlocked it - working well on Cingular save for the internet services, and that it flatly refuses to pick up GPRS.

Anything offered is greatly appreciated!

Regards,
Donovan

Please note that M56 and M55 firmwares are not interchangable! There's a very fundamental hardware difference on the phones, ie. the ability to support 850MHz in favour of the 900/1800 bands. If you flash your M56 with M55 firmware, I guarantee you will have yourself a M56-shaped paperweight (and an unhappy GF!).

Also, you have to manually input your WAP/GPRS settings for Cingular; the phone won't know where to go to access internet if you don't set it up to be that way!

Now, if you've put in the appropriate settings for GPRS and it still works like crap, then I would recommend you to reflash your M56 with version 6 or perhaps even the original firmware.

Freia is a good freeware to do the flashing and other functions; just do a quick Google search and you'll find it! Just don't get scammed into paying for it!

Try it out and post your results here!

Unless I am mistaken, the m55 and m56 bands are crystal selected, so by flashing over the firmware to the m55 v10, the bands will retain their operation. My s66 is running s65 full flash at v43 with zero hitches - same deal, Cingular is 850 only here in Cinci, and the s66 is 850/1800/1900 whereas the s65 is 900/1800/1900...The FW should be indifferent to the bands, it's the delivery system, much like the ISO OSI 7-layer model in networking, all the higher functions are indifferent to the lower ones. This is not absolute, because I am by no means an expert on the x5x series from Siemens, but I believe this is a truism. I'm not calling you to the carpet or anything, thanks for the reply, but I think that I can flash it to m55 without band issues. If I am wrong, I play the ID10T role again

I understand what you mean, and it could well be the case that the bands are crystal rather than firmware selected. Why I thought it wasn't possible to flash M56 with M55 FW was because I've read in other places about people trying to flash C56 with C55 and vice versa, and having a non-functioning phone at the end. That's why I warned you about it. Now, perhaps you can give M55 ver 10 a try and post your results here! I'd like to find out too!

As I grow increasingly more daring, I probably will =)
