Is this a worth while upgrade? Will the new ms mobile 5 be available for the SMT5600? The mpx 220 is a class A gprs device.....so i get some pretty good speeds when using it as a modem with my laptop...will the SMT5600 be the same? Does the SMT5600 support edge? Is the bluetooth on the SMT5600 more solid than the mpx?

thanks in advance.

The SMT does NOT support EDGE...neither does the MPX.

There was/is a Bluetooth "glitch" with the MPX...volumn dropoff when talking to people. Not sure if there's a fix or not. The SMT's works perfectly.

They're pretty much the same phone. It just depends on if you like a flip, or not.

hmmm....i guess i'll wait for an edge smart phone. I just called them and they want me to pay a $18 migration fee over to cingular. so i will lose my 7:00 nights....but i get the phone got 199.00. Good price but i think i'll wait. Is there any plans of a mobile 5 upgrade for the mpx?

Are u with cing blue, i just picked up a 5600 fromt nbo for 199.00 on the cing blue side, i had the mpx 220 i feel personally the 5600 is a slight upgrade, just works smoother in more areas to me, cant say about data speeds, but ringtones volume ,speaker volume, loudspeaker, earpiece volume and camera and video are nicer if that matters to u.

hmmm...those features does matter to me. But i while i was on the phone with the rep placing the order...it popped into my head...why spend $200 for a phone that does not have edge at this point. i think my next phone muust be a smart phone with edge. i havn't seen too many..but i think i'll hold on.

theres is actually a windows mobile 5 Rom out there on the internet (im not gonna say where)...but its a beta release dated 3/25/05. People say it has a lot of bugs on it, but it is installable on a current smartphone device. Im waiting till the final release comes out on the net before trying it out on my SMT5600. And NO, i dont know when thats gonna be.

Can I simply ask why you don't want to mention where you got the WM 5 ROM? Is there something secretive about it?

as with anythiing beta, only authorized persons are "supposed" to have them, not the general public...hence the beta.

BS he dont know where , because there is no place right now. If there was he would share the goods.

Are you 100% sure it's for the smartphone and not the PocketPC? The only one I have found is for the PocketPC. There are files out there that say "Smartphone Magneto WindowsMobile 2005" but are falsely named.

Going from MPx220 to SMT 5600 is actually a downgrade. You'd be trading a flip phone for a bar phone - that's de-evolving IMHO. Also, you'd trade a 1 megapixel camera for a VGA one. Plus the 5600 may become a dust-magnet ala Nokia. At least, Nokia gives you removable covers so you can clean out the dust under the screen, something not possible with the 5600.

It's also not a quad band, the one thing that keeps me with the MPX 220.

Not necessarily true. There are:

- internal betas (only for selected associates within the company)
- private beta (for a selected and closed user group)
- public beta (intended for the general public, as long as users understand and agree to the risks involved in beta testing)

Not all companies utilize all of these forms of beta testing, but it is not necessarily true that the public can't have access to some beta builds.

I think candybar is more professional and "manly". I don't buy phones for the camera and in fact I would prefer phones not to have cameras. I have a Nokia 6230b and it's not attracting dust. Granted I don't have a MPX220 or a SMT5600, but I'm interested in getting my hand on the SMT5600 due to it being less buggy and have less problems than the MPX220.
