According to the leading mobile magazin in Sweden, there will be three new phones June 13. Among them is P1000:

• 3g
• 3 megapixel camera
• Blackberry support
• UIQ 3.0
• Wi-Fi support

I hope it's true... however, if the phone does not support 850MHz, it will be of little use to me

THAT is the big question. I'd be using a Nokia 9500 right now rather than a P910a if Nokia had ever released a quad band (or at least a tri with 850).

I agree (not about the 9500, but about the QuadBand). Won't happen though... we'll be stuck in a world of "a", "b" and "i" models.

Most motorola phones are quadband, and they are all very affordable... and even if it did raise the price, how much of a price hike would it be? I'm sure most would be willing to pay the small fee for a phone that will work on any GSM network.

The moto A780 is $500 (no contract)
The moto A1000 is $600 (no contract)
The SE V800 is $650 (no contract)

I paid $1000 for my p800 when it first came out.
When it came out it was revolutionary - now a phone that is quadband, WiFI, GPR, UMTS and with a 2+ MP camera, should not be more than $1000

Don't know if you guys caught this the other post but the price has dropped on Sony Ericsson's website to $499 including a bluetooth headset. This seems to be good news for all of us expecting the announcement of something new! Don't you think?

yea lame i was al waiting for some new p900 and they announced all these low end crap phones. wth. the w600 was nice but its still a lower model than the w800. man they need to start announcing my phone b4 i do something drastic like buying a new non se phone. haha

Since the P800 Sony Ericsson has done nothing significant in the smartphone arena. I have had a P900 since November 2003 and already knew this was a worked up version of the P800, better screen, more memory, and updated housing (+flip), but still using 90% of the PCB design. The P910i was another 'facelift' update but again no real redesign. The P-series by now has evolved from absolutely revolutionary and far ahead of the rest to decent but nothing spectacular. Like the Honda/Acura NSX, which they kept on selling for years and years and ended up being an old-fashioned sports car. <Sigh> I would love to see a major update for the p-series but I am not forever patient.

enough about cars. . .ive got some new info on the possible new Sony Ericsson P Series. . .code name. . .Hermione. From my research its said to have:
-3G with Video call
-2 or 3 Megapixel Camera
-QWERTY keyboard plus numeric keyboard
-GPS built in
-Wi-Fi
-Higher screen resolution
-UIQ 3.0
-Propably HDD
-Maybe EDGE support

The design is spose to be something new and revolutionary but from what ive found out, its something smiliar to "T-mobile or LG" as others have said.

Some new rumored pictures have also been surfacing and they are most likely photo shopped but they are from a good source so I've heard:

friend of friend works for SE developing side i believe and last he heard they will be announcing it 4th Q this year or next year and should be with 2meg camera but from my personal OTHER research EDGE and other features seem to be right.

Well, you can see that the pictures are so modified in Photoshop, its so bad that pepole have time to just play with a picture and then upload it on the internet and mark it as a P915/P980/P1000.

Idon't think you can get any serious pictures from internet of the next P-Series, in september I hope Sony Ericsson have present it.

I also want to write this I found in another forum.

A guy in Great Britain, were on the coffe-place Starbucks, and a person sat with an strange Sony Ericsson PDA phone at the table beside. The guy did'nt think it was true when he saw the Sony Ericsson logo on the phone, he describe the phone like this;
"It had the same flip over the screen design (slightly bigger) and qwerty keyboard inside, but a bigger screen. Unfortunately it was wider So more like an XDA size. "

So he asked the guy wich phone / phonemodel it were and the guy answerd very short that he did'nt know and it were the companys phone. Thereafter he went out.

Why were the person on just Starbucks with a phone who not are realeased then?
Maybe an answer: Starbucks got Wi-Fi on their cafés and P1000 got Wi-fi as the rumours say.

If you had bothered to actually check you would have seen that the chap who posted those pictures on se-nse.com freely stated that he had created them. He was responding to rumoured information from someone on the new P series design and decided to create a mockup himself. At no point does anyone claim they are 'top secret photos'. People were merely speculating on what the next P series may look like.

I realise that it is infinitely easier to be cynical and deride others, but it really does only take a few moments to check.

if the phone was a real prototype then that guy prolly just lied and said he didnt know. but if the new pxxx has the same flip style with a qwerty i dont think i would want it. im hoping for a complete redesign. i feel that the flip style with the p910 isnt that amazing and isnt very useful. soemthing like the sidekick would be better. especially that way u can view stuff with landscape mode or play games if that's ur spill. wifi is definately a must. who doesnt have wifi nowadays. have u seen the many phones that is coming out with the sidekick style qwerty. there's quite a few out there.

You posted in good faith and as far as I can see you didn't categorically claim that those pictures were of the next P series. As I said befre, if one takes a few moments to check the context, in which those pictures wer eposted on se-nse, one would see that they were never claimed to be official.

i really wished the qwerty keyboard if there is any to not be like the p910. its not very functional. and im hoping they really incorporate a real qwerty keyboard in it. from the looks of it the shape of the p900 is the same with some redesign but nothing drastic. i was hoping for something revolutionary. to me sony seems to be not paying too much attention to the p9xx's imho.

I agree with you Dilandu. I think the P950 is there to fill a gap in the 3G line-up, remember Motorola have had UIQ 3G devices out for 2 years. Also, at least here in the UK, the coverage of 3G for high speed data is still limited and for business people a WiFi device raher than a 3G device may be more useful. Therefore I think SE have a another, hopefully in mini communicator form factor, Smartphone lined-up for later release.

with the p series its went from revolutionary with the p800 to ok with the p900 and just kinda went downhill really. the p910 upgrade was a good phone but for folks with a p900 it wasnt worth the upgrade at all. im hoping for them to start up something revolutionary again.

From those photo's, it looks like the screen will be smaller because the keyboard will take up half of it. It looks more like a blackberry/treo device as a result. Why even keep the phone pad??? I think it looks good

according to the specs the screen is shorter by .4cm but wider by .2cm i believe. here's a pic of the two together and a pic of the screen and keyboard.

i have to say im starting to like it more for the fact that its a good size smaller and the screen size is pretty much the same and there's a keyboard on it. the other specs looks really good too. i sure hope there's landscape mode tho. everything else im fine with.

so i've been looking at it closely and the bluetooth light is not there anymore. i like the two lights blinking at each other. hehe i knwo i know its very little significance but its cool. now since we know wat's its gonna look like. lets critique on it, shall we? i've already started. haha

from the looks of it. wil the p950 be 3g capable? i didnt see any of that in there unless i missed it. but cingular is rolling out 3g all over the us end of the year so hopefully that will help.

I work for cingular dude! we dont have UMTS employeed anywhere in the US. At the moment there are 8 markets testing UMTS but none of which are available to the consumer to just hop on.

It IS a 3G phone its UMTS-900/1800/1900-GPRS networks. As for right now there is no EDGE confirmed but possiblility of being added as most of whats out there right now are rumors and speculation of a rumored "REAL" picture of the unit.

I mean hell I want it to have edge too as the US is really lacking in the telecommunications technology. We got 3rd world countries running around with 3G phones...lmao thats some funny stuff
