Cingular ROM version 1.430

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: westrid_dad

Has anyone installed this update yet? I just ran the on-line system update tool and it prompted me it was about to install ROM version 1.430. I'm going to wait until I perform a back-up before proceeding, but wondered if anyone had any feedback yet on this build.

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I have looked through the threads and still cannot figure out how to update.. I have downloaded the Moto online updater and unzipped it. When I click on the icon that says motorola mpx220 update (icon of a phone with an arrow through it) I get an error saying that runtime tried to close an application in an unusual manner..

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG or right for that matter.

Thanks,

Mark

you need to install the offline updater too, that will fix that problem..

They sound about the same to me... of course I'm partially deaf so I'm probably not the best source for this info

Posted by: deytokurjebs

done well its a cingular rom just waiting for windows startup

Posted by: deytokurjebs

well got it up and running heres what i noticed. No network selection. Speakerphone volume is a bit higher, Call volume is about the same as the 1.39 my signal strengh was one bar higher till i performed the backup don't know what that is all about

Posted by: rosullivan04

I did notice my signal was crap for the first few minutes then it went back up some. But signal strength for me was lower than in ATT139.

Posted by: deytokurjebs

I also noticed under accessirues they have a BT serialportsetup wich i never had before

Posted by: xplode

k, well this is another unofficial rom im sad to say eeek

Posted by: deytokurjebs

Version 4.21.1088
Radio Version 1.00
operator: 0.480.1003.0
Manufacturer 1.430.0.0
Microsoft: 4.21.15101.0
language: 0.210.0.0
File System: 4.21.15101.0

Posted by: rosullivan04

That's what I figured... I'm taking my phone back to ATT 1.39. I still am very frustrated that Cingular is locking out Network Selection by default.

Posted by: deytokurjebs

windows media 9 series

i wonder where is the update???

and
could somebody upload the rom to rapidshare.de????

Mp3 ringtones seem to be increasingly louder.. one question to you guys can i just buy a mini sd from wal mart or does it have to be a specific brand?

Where you get your PQI 1GB minisd? I didn't think they were available yet. I'm not touching the SanDisk MLC 1GB minisd...

Posted by: TruBlu01

I purchased a Sandisk 1gig from www.supermediastore.com $88.00 shipped.

Posted by: kingbear2

How can it possibly be an unofficial ROM if Motorola's own Software Update Tool is the one giving it to us?

Posted by: rosullivan04

Best way to test it. Nerds like us download it and comment on it in forums like this. It's free beta-testing. Now if they listen, that's another story...

very simple.. they dont advertise the updates available via email or thru hellomoto where all the final updates show up.. just because its on the update software means nothing, they assume no one has it nemore so they post up test verisons for updating their phones and trying it... doesnt make it official just because its on their. if its not advertised as a final update then its not..

For some people's phones, the brand of MiniSD card seems to make a big difference, and for others, it doesn't seem to matter. A lot of people had issues with the SanDisk 256MB card, but I haven't heard any complaints about any 1 GB cards as of yet.

My version 1.430 is up an running, upgraded from 1.3....

1) Signal is definitely better here at my house. Mostly 3-4 bars, it always used to be 0-2. I've made calls, they hold fine.
2) ear volume seems louder.
3) Bluetooth actually now allows me to make voice recognition calls from my car and dials, but when it's time to goto speakerphone to communicate, it goes back to the phone.
4) Menus are faster.
5) Pop3 e-mail is the same speed.

Go to Modaco. http://www.modaco.com/Just_upgraded...25-t206891.html

yes, hence the reason it hasnt been notified from moto via email to us regarding an official update.. im gonna keep on hold even tho i want to update and try this one out, il wait for the sable and final version..

im not sure but i have a 512, so i have double whatever you figure out.. .. it depends on the size of each mp3 and whatever else you put on the card.. not a "set amount"

Posted by: DKOnLine

I keep losing the signal after almost every other call. Its like right after I hang up the phone. It has happened on all the roms I've tried and 3 different MPxs. Is this just a problem with these phones? Including the original 1.03.

Posted by: xplode

ive never had a problem with RF EVER on the mpx, sounds like it might be your area, towers dropping you for a few moments and then re connecting..

Posted by: drizze99

A formatted 256 miniSD card yields 243.88MB. MP3 files are an average 5.25MB in size, so doing the math will get you approx 46 songs on a 256 miniSD. It all depends on file size!

Posted by: DKOnLine

Yeah its not for a long time at all but it gets annoying when you have the BT headset on and it does that beeping in your ear when searching for the signal.

Posted by: bign90

Hi Again Guys,

I got the online updater working and I get to the screen where it says it is downloading and the green bar. The green bar fills up and I get a msg that says the process has taken longer than the alloted time and I should hit cancel and try again..

I have done this 3 times and I can't make it work..

Any Ideas,

Mark Hood

Now wouldn't that be the same for other Cingular phones in the area? I know 2 of my buddies have different Cingular phones and they don't lose their signal at all.

depends on what kind of phone and what their EXACT location is in relation to the towers, if theyre next door and it doesnt happen to them i assume its a phone related problem, but if theyre across town from you, even less than a mile, and they dont have it, i assume its prolly your range from a tower, unless yours does it when your out with them and theirs doesnt, maybe you just have a buggy phone lol..

Yeah they can be right next to me or at my house and nothing happens with their phones. Like I had said this has happened on 3 different MPx phones that I have had.

Think it could be my sim card that could be causing the problem?

Cuz I would gladly go buy a new sim card if thats the problem.

XBM told me yesterday they received an e-mail that it's on backorder for 5 days. Should be available soon, but you might as well put through the request now so you get it ASAP.

For those of you who can't use the Online Updater to get the firmware, use the offline one and use the firmware files available from: http://s27.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=...WK1VIB5O6U12PBE.

Please don't overuse this link as it only has a certain amount of downloads allowed. Save it for the people who post the ROM's on their websites so they can download it and make it available permanently.

I haven't used these files together with the offline updater, I just got them from the online updater, so if they work for you, please let me know.

has anyone tryed the 1.39 opr file with this?

Posted by: ClarkG

Damnit, another failed update. I wish I knew what this freaking "DL Fail FlashLoader Stage, 0x4010" error is.

Posted by: rueprek

ArrG
Updated to new 1.43. Inserted a non network sim and got a message saying "your phone has been disabled" Phone use to have a "Network PUK" screen. Now this. I've about had it with motorola.

Posted by: CeluGeek

Hmm, sound quality is a bit better, but not for too much. At least, it doesn't remind me of CDMA like 1.39 did.

Posted by: COPY

Which langages are includes in this ROM ?

Posted by: citron01

Can someone give me the link to the online updater?

Posted by: cdubya

I installed 1.43 Bt voice dial does not work

Posted by: N7TND

You can voice dial using the standard way and, if you have a bluetooth headset turned on, it will switch to the headset when the call connects....

Cheezy!!

Posted by: Omega2008

Just updated mine to the new 1.430 Cingular ROM and so far so good, I paired my phone with my computer and BT headset, BT ActiveSync is up and running.

So far it seems a bit faster than the 1.39 ROM and at the loudest in call volume the sound quality is much better. Good Job Moto!

I will have to tinker with it more to see if I can find anymore improvements and or bugs.

They are all official, the all come from Motorola, they would not put up test roms for everybody to download if they were not "official", so lay a rest to the oh im not gonna download it because its not official, because it is official.

Ringtones are louder, mp3 ones that is. I have the volume on 4 and its louder than it was on the 1.39 ROM when it was on loud. Its not distorted at all. I haven't tested the speakerphone yet....

Posted by: mikesm

I upgraded fine to the new ROM via the online updater, but did not see any changes with bluetooth dialing. For those of you that can now voice dial via bluetooth, what exactly are you doing to trigger the dialing sequence? What bluetooth headset are you using?

Thanks,
Mike

Speaker phone volume is no different.

I restarted a couple times, but got the same error. Suggestions?

I have run into the same problem with the online updater, although I've downloaded the 1.43 Cing and have the off line update tool. I think I'll wait a few days for you more adventurous types to figure out if updating is worth the bother if you don't get much improvement over 1.39 Cing.

Same here. Seems faster, voice is clearer, bluetooth sounds a little stronger. At least it's in the right direction.

Still can't wait for that Windows Mobile 5 with WMP 10 update.....

Posted by: illmatic416

This is cool...a new ROM every week! The only thing that would make this better would be another free headset! Anyway, i did the ROM splicing so I'm using Cingular 1.43 and ATT 1.43 .opr...so far no problems...ringtone volume is a little louder, but not that much. Voice volume seems a little lower to me, but it's definately clearer...at least that's my opinion. Also, the phone seems to startup much faster. Camera seems to have improved...i thought the camera quality in 1.39 was the same as 1.030 contrary to what other people have posted.

This is thru his car people he has BT built into his car. The new BT car kit from Motorola lets you use voice reconition with it...its nothing new.

I am about tired of this offical ROM and unoffical ROM crap....if it works great, if its better than the previous one great....who cares...update your phone or don't....Motorola may never show it on there website...

Agreed..I should have stated vs. 1.3 and older.

I think the camera has improved from the 1.3 greatly....and the sound is definitely better, the 1.39 rom was really weird for me, it would dial the last person i called randomly all throughout the day

So you would recommend upgrading from 1.39 to 1.43???

At this moment no...I haven't gotten to full test it yet and use the phone. Tommorow will be a perfect test day for me...however there is no reason why you shouldn't, If you don't like it you can always go back to 1.39.

True, but since my disaster with Sprite Backup, its a pain in the a** to reload everything

I do have a question, since I have a majority of my apps on the miniSD, do they still need to be reloaded from scratch (I didn't have the SD until after I loaded 1.39)??

Thanks,

V

Posted by: Omega2008

Any programs you install on the miniSD (not files though) you will need to reinstall. Before reinstalling you need to erase all the files that deal with any app you installed on the miniSD off the miniSD before you reinstall the coorasponding program back on the miniSD, this will make sure you don't have any installation or runtime problems.

You can find the 1.430 ROM here here both the AT&T and Cingular branded versions.

Posted by: CeluGeek

Is it possible to install the AT&T version but with Cingular branding? If so, how can I do it? Thanks.

You can find the information you seek on my blog(NEW).

Right now it seems like they are getting more speed out of our phones with these last two updates.

They dont have to put it on the site for it to be "official". Trust me its official.

Who needs network selection when you have a ENS enabled 64k SIM card?

I travel to a spot in Indiana that only has coverage for Centennial Communications and Cellular One. For some reason, it never switches to those networks and claims to have no service "This being with 1.03 with no hacks". With 1.39 "Or now my 1.43 with ATT OPR", I can force it to roam onto that network.

Posted by: Omega2008

You could of done it with the cingular .opr, you just had to do a registry edit....I have no roaming problems....it swtiches automatically for me without a hitch.

i know somone at motorola and trust me its not offical. Version # might stay the same, but it wont be the same one thats up now.

IF i am wrong and hes wrong for giving me wrong info, then i eat my words, but time will tell...

Posted by: rosullivan04

With the full-build Cingular ROM, I had to swap out the telephony file so I could manually select, but then I would have to toggle flight mode and reboot so I could see the network - very frustrating I can't get the reg key to stick... I'm assuming it's protected? If I could get it to stick I would happily stay with Cingular ROM

My problem is that I can not get the 64K SIM. None of the stores will upgrade me. I got stuck with the 32K Sim at best buy and no one will help me out. Know of a way to get an upgrade? Is there a fee?

They should give you a new SIM it may cost you but they should make it available to you. I would call CS.

I have the same problem with switching carriers. What registry edit are you talking about? Only one I know of is the network select edit but that resets when you turn the phone off.

So is this really the last and final rom?

Posted by: organix

No, it is the latest rom. It's hardly the last or final one.

As long as they don't release an official ROM, you know that Motorola will keep pumping them out. Besides, they expect the official ROM to be ready around June.

Thats it, you turn network select on, select your network and your done, it will stick until you change it. Even when you restart your phone the MMC will still be in the registry that you choose.

It could be but I am not sure. When 1.30 came out it took motorola almost 3 weeks to get it posted on there site with the online update utility.

Well I am gone for the weekend and login this morning to find a new ROM. Well since it is newer than 1.39 I will have to use Cing 1.43 with AT&T 1.43 OPR.

has anyone done a sprite backup on 1.39 and then a restore after they put 1.43 on?

anyone?

-Keith

it was a pain to load everything when I went to 1.39 but I did not feel like doing a work today so I guess I will upgrade my phone. hopefully it is better than 1.39

SO OMEGA is it worth it going to 1.43 from 1.39?

I did. Not sure what happened, but it screwed up messaging to the point it wouldn't start. Granted I did not run the Sprite upgrade utility before, but did try the "Restore to different ROM" mode. I ended up restoring the system state and got all my apps, just lost my text and email messages, but everything else is intact.

Thanks for the reply hbelton.

I will try and do the upgrade first with sprite and then backup and then load 1.43 and restore.

Ok, now I am a little confused. I have a Cingular branded MPx220 and also a 64K sim card. I have installed the 1.39 spliced ROM (Cingular w/ATT .opr file). In reading this you said that there is a registry setting that can be changed so that it will "automagically" roam networks (other than my carrier Cingular). With the ATT .opr file I can use the selection Settings/Phone/Networks and browse to see the available networks and either manually select the one I want or leave it automatic. I have made no registry edit yet that you spoke about regarding the MMC.

Given my setup, what do I need to do to allow my phone to "automagically" roam other networks when my carrier (Cingular) is not available.

As an aside, I am going to try the spliced 1.43 Cingular/ATT rom tonight, hopefully it will be ok.

Posted by: Deadem

If I use the ATT opr will it give me that branding or mmode or will it just have network select available?

Posted by: xplode

I dont believe its going to be 1.90.. i think they might stick within 1.4XX range, because they are pretty close to releasing the final version, only a few weeks away (hopes).. i just hope they finally tackle the in call volume and speakerphone volume, those are the only 2 unresolved issues to date with 1.430

I have Sprite Backup. What upgrade utility are you guys referring to, the one that Motorola provides when upgrading the firmware?? If that's the case, then forget the question, but does anyone have any experience restoring all their programs using Sprite after a ROM upgrade?? I thought I read somewhere that it screws things up and it's better to reinstall everything.

Well for what its worth, everybody, get the upgrade, its worth it! this is the first i've really been able to enjoy the features on my mpx

In the registry there is a key HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/RIL

There you find a key called EnableManual, change the value from 0 to 1. Now the difference between the ATT Network selection and the Cingular network selection is that Manual is already activated on the ATT .opr and says activated. On the Cingular .opr Manual can be turned on by the meathod above but will become disabled (the value goes back to 0) when you reboot the phone.

When you have Network Setting set to Automatic it will Automatically pick a Cingular network weather it be a ATT or Cingular tower, if it can not find a Cingular or ATT network it will display no service on your screen or it will roam on T-Mobile if its avaiable. To roam on any other network other than the ones I mentioned you need to enable network selection on the Cingular ROM and then select the network you want...The phone will stay with that network until a Cingular or ATT tower comes into range. If you restart the phone you will have to reenable network selection and pick the network again.

On the ATT ROM you don't need to enable it because it is enabled by default hence that is why you have manual network selection.

I was pointing out that you can do manual network selection on the Cingular ROM but its not as convient as it is on the ATT ROM.

I hope that clears that up for you.

BT voice dialing still does not work. BT voice dialing will only work with a BT car kit from Motorola. The newest one they released works with the MPx 220 and lets you voice dial over BT because you are actually using a profile called Audio Gateway with the Car adapter it will also work with some other BT car kits and with some BT enabled cars. I can do BT voice dial on my phone thru my computer with the Audio Gateway profile but you still CAN NOT do BT voice dial from your BT headset to the phone.

I guess you are also saying that it's immpossible to make that registry edit stick with the Cingular ROM?

Is there a way to make a REG file that you can click on that makes that change for you? (like windows for PC)

EDIT: I made an SREG file with Smartione Reg editor. Can this file be run on the phone? (probably not)

Posted by: Omega2008

The change will not stick, it will revert back when you reboot.

Possibly but I don't know how to do it. Try making a reg file like you do on the computer and give it the same extention as you normally would do. Put it in the start menu and see if it works.

No, Sprite Backup has a seperate utility that is available on their site. If you look under "Restore" in the Sprite Help system a link to the file is provided.

Ok, I got the file (http://www.spritesoftware.com/suppo...rade_files.html
). Now if someone can help me out and let me know if this is the correct way of doing it, I would appreciate it.

Backup using Sprite. Hard Reset. Use upgrade utility and save the file to the storage card or PC. Upgrade the ROM. Run Sprite Backup and click Restore. Select "Upgrade from different ROM".

That will cause Sprite NOT to change certain registry values that are in the new ROM. It will also hopefully cause Sprite to do a nice backup, and all my files and programs and contacts, tasks, calendar items etc. will be cool after the Restore.

Is this correct?

You can get rid of the Xpress mail think on the home screen by going into Start>Settings>Home Screen and choosing Windows Basic for the first setting. Nothing else needs to be changed.

the earpiece volume on the 1.43 Cingular/ATT ROM is on par with the 1.40 Asian ROM...i'll stick with the 1.43 Cingular until a newer ROM is available or i experience problems that force me back to 1.40 Asian.

I did it and some details are in this post:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...7&page=12&pp=30

Programs restored and ,when I checked, most registry settings are unchanged, but some- like the start menu background image was not there. Can't find the regitry key that I originally used.
Program order on the start menu has reverted back to original as well.
I had to reset cleartype to "1". I'm still checking....

Posted by: RhOd15

Ok I'm starting to get worried...
I've been stuck at that 94% thing for about 30-35 minutes now...

Does it normally take this long... oh yeah, i have a P4 2.8GHZ 512RAM...

Any advice? Should i cancel it out and restart? Oh, and if I restart the process, can I do it with out the SIM in there... I left my SIM and would really like to have it in my back up phone!

Thanks!

Posted by: medenblik

I had no problems updating from 1.39 to 1.43 took less than 5 minutes

I took my SIM and SD card and Battery out to upgrade ROM

try that and see if it goes faster

Posted by: Omega2008

Well after a full day of using my MPx 220 with the new 1.430 Cingular with the Cingular .opr file, I will have to say that this ROM version by far is the best.

There are 4 main things that caught my attention with this new ROM. a.) Increased OS stablity and memory management (speed), b.)System volume (in call volume stayed the same between 1.39 and 1.40 but is much clearer and of better quality. Speakerphone is not any louder but is clearer, Ring tones and system sounds are just as loud as the were on "Loud" set in the profiles on the 1.39 ROM and don't sound as distorted.), c.) OBEX (it was upgraded in the 1.39 ROM but I have noticed that it transfers faster and seems to be more stable and I don't have any lags as I did with the 1.39 ROM), d.) Boot Up time (1.39 had a very fast boot up time but 1.430 is even faster)

All in all its a great improvement! Way to go Motorola! I hope the ROM tutorial I put on my blog is helping you guys out.

Posted by: axisfx

The new ROM is great. The camera does so much better for me, it doesn't lag, it takes wonderful pictures now. 1.430, you are my hero...

Anyways, I took the liberty of uploading the online update tool to my website, so if anyone wants to grab it, they can. This is what I used to upgrade from 1.39, which sucked. It backed up all my data and made everything good.

Yes but they will have to dump the MS BT stack and make one that is compatible with the voice reconition software.....don't see that happening...but I hope it does!

I'm on Rogers in Canada, the phone is unlocked, if I go with this new ROM (ATT 1.43) will it lock my phone to the ATT network?

T

Posted by: Omega2008

No...for the last time people ugrading your ROM will not lock or unlock your phone....The ROM and the EPROM (where the information about your phone being locked or not is stored) are totaly independent of eachother. You can flash and flash and flash your ROM to hell and back and your phone will be unlocked.

Posted by: tgiannelli

I knew I was going to get blasted for that one... I thought that was true, but thanks for clarifying it.

Posted by: Omega2008

You didn't get blasted....just making it clear.

Cheers, Omega... thanks for the clarification. Have you been able to test the camera function? I'm hoping that this rom is a little better.

Yep, its way better than it was on 1.30 and about the same compared to 1.39

While trying to update my Cingular MPx-220 it failed. When I tried to reboot it now it shows as NO SERVICE. Something failed to install. When I try to go through the update again. The software tries to identify the MPx-220 and fails everytime.

Does anybody know how to bypass this part and go straight to installing the update?

Posted by: Omega2008

Do the following for me:

Start, Settings, About

What is the manufacturer and operator numbers?

You will need the offline updater if your manufacturer is 1.340 and you will need the ROM files. You can can find both here
