Anyway, i did the ROM splicing so I'm using Cingular 1.43 and ATT 1.43 .opr...so far no problems...ringtone volume is a little louder, but not that much. Voice volume seems a little lower to me, but it's definately clearer...at least that's my opinion. Also, the phone seems to startup much faster. Camera seems to have improved...i thought the camera quality in 1.39 was the same as 1.030 contrary to what other people have posted.

1) Signal is definitely better here at my house. Mostly 3-4 bars, it always used to be 0-2. I've made calls, they hold fine. 2) ear volume seems louder. 3) Bluetooth actually now allows me to make voice recognition calls from my car and dials, but when it's time to goto speakerphone to communicate, it goes back to the phone. 4) Menus are faster. 5) Pop3 e-mail is the same speed. |

As long as they don't release an official ROM, you know that Motorola will keep pumping them out. Besides, they expect the official ROM to be ready around June. |

has anyone done a sprite backup on 1.39 and then a restore after they put 1.43 on? anyone? -Keith I did. Not sure what happened, but it screwed up messaging to the point it wouldn't start. Granted I did not run the Sprite upgrade utility before, but did try the "Restore to different ROM" mode. I ended up restoring the system state and got all my apps, just lost my text and email messages, but everything else is intact. |

In reading this you said that there is a registry setting that can be changed so that it will "automagically" roam networks (other than my carrier Cingular). With the ATT .opr file I can use the selection Settings/Phone/Networks and browse to see the available networks and either manually select the one I want or leave it automatic. I have made no registry edit yet that you spoke about regarding the MMC.
Given my setup, what do I need to do to allow my phone to "automagically" roam other networks when my carrier (Cingular) is not available. As an aside, I am going to try the spliced 1.43 Cingular/ATT rom tonight, hopefully it will be ok. |

There you find a key called EnableManual, change the value from 0 to 1. Now the difference between the ATT Network selection and the Cingular network selection is that Manual is already activated on the ATT .opr and says activated. On the Cingular .opr Manual can be turned on by the meathod above but will become disabled (the value goes back to 0) when you reboot the phone. When you have Network Setting set to Automatic it will Automatically pick a Cingular network weather it be a ATT or Cingular tower, if it can not find a Cingular or ATT network it will display no service on your screen or it will roam on T-Mobile if its avaiable. To roam on any other network other than the ones I mentioned you need to enable network selection on the Cingular ROM and then select the network you want...The phone will stay with that network until a Cingular or ATT tower comes into range. If you restart the phone you will have to reenable network selection and pick the network again. On the ATT ROM you don't need to enable it because it is enabled by default hence that is why you have manual network selection. I was pointing out that you can do manual network selection on the Cingular ROM but its not as convient as it is on the ATT ROM. I hope that clears that up for you. |

I thought I read somewhere that it screws things up and it's better to reinstall everything. |

No, Sprite Backup has a seperate utility that is available on their site. If you look under "Restore" in the Sprite Help system a link to the file is provided. |

Ok, I got the file (http://www.spritesoftware.com/suppo...rade_files.html ). Now if someone can help me out and let me know if this is the correct way of doing it, I would appreciate it. Backup using Sprite. Hard Reset. Use upgrade utility and save the file to the storage card or PC. Upgrade the ROM. Run Sprite Backup and click Restore. Select "Upgrade from different ROM". That will cause Sprite NOT to change certain registry values that are in the new ROM. It will also hopefully cause Sprite to do a nice backup, and all my files and programs and contacts, tasks, calendar items etc. will be cool after the Restore. Is this correct? |
