MPX220 battery charging problems

I upgraded to the 1.39 rom on my MPx220 and am having enless charging problems. When I plug the USB cable into the phone to charge the battery it takes a long time for the phone to display that it has started to charge. I leave the USB cable overnight to charge the phone and in the morning the battery is flat and the phone will not switch on. Can anyone please help and advise me what to do. Thanks.

Will it charge with the wall charger? I have had Mpx220 charging problems, and had to exchange thru XBM twice. It just stopped taking charge with the wall, and I found the same problem with the USB taking forever, and not really charging it. I think that the connections in the phone go bad or something...can't even charge it enough to Sprite back it up. I am now awaiting my third phone from XBM, since they are backordered. If it is not wall charging or USB, you might have to exchange it...if you are Cingular

Thanks for the info. I have an OEM charger as well and it does not even switch the phone on. Unfortunately I purchased my phone brand new from a private person on Ebay and I guess I cannot contact Cingular or Motorola to exchange it. I did not have these problems with the 1.30 version rom. Only since the upgrade to 1.39 did I start experiencing these problems. Does any one know if upgrading to 1.43 will solve this frustrating problem?

I don't know - I bought mine at Best Buy and had no problem with XBM

Firstly you should know that charging with the USB cable is no good. I found a post in a forum somewhere that a USB "Energy Charges" it and can cause slowdowns due to too much power, as opposed to a wall charger which "trickle charges" it. In that post it stated that a phone connected to a USB charger all day can ruin the phone/battery. My brother confirmed this with the following story. He always had problems that when the phone rang the screen would freeze and it would refresh very slowly to a point where he had to wait 15 seconds just to answer the phone. When I showed him that post he told me that for the last 3 weeks when he was out of town and not using his USB charger all day (like he usually does) his phone never froze on an incoming call. Just comes to show...be careful.

Secondly, even if you bought the phone on ebay, as long as you have a cingular branded phone and service through cingular, XBM will exchange your phone. They don't need a receipt or anything, since they know you are for sure within your 1 year warranty period because the phone was only manufactured a few months ago.

Hope that helps

Clean the contacts on the CE Bus connector. Also, clean the contacts on the wall charger.

As for USB charging...you are right in some respecs but you must remember that not all USB ports are created equally. I have found that if I charge my phone thru a USB port on a USB hub that the phone is being charge to rapidly and that yes it could damage the battery and could cause it to explode. Most USB ports that are directly connected to the motherboard on a PC or Mac have a low enough voltage, besides that the MPx 220 has a battery charge program that will cut the flow of power once the battery reaches full capcity. Hece the screen you get when you charge your battery with the wall charger when charging is complete. The problem with the USB hub port that to much voltage is comming thru for the capcitors to hold so the remaining voltage goes to the battery which will cause over charging and a risk of damaging your phone and or the battery exploding.

I had this problem once too and I'll tell you what I found. My computer is a laptop and I left my laptop turned on and the USB cable plugged into my MPx220 overnight expecting both to be fully charged the next morning. I did not have my laptop plugged into the AC as it was charging the phone battery. After a while when the laptop battery did not have any more voltage in it the phone was then powering laptop. In the end BOTH batteries were fully discharged in the morning. A hard lesson learned.

Thanks for the all the info guys. I have just upgraded from version 1.39 to the Cingular 1.43 rom hoping that this will solve my problem with charging. At this moment I have the phone charging through the USB connector and I will just have to see if the battery is completely charged. As far as the OEM wall charger I have tried everything but alas no luck. There is not even a hint of power to the phone. Could be a faulty charger even though its a brand new one. One thing I did notice is that the two prong connection of the wall charger fits very loosely in the phones connector. Is this the same with all wall chargers? It is not as good as the USB cable connector which fits tightly. Any ideas what what brand of charger will work?
