Sprite backup...?

Does Sprite backup the Contacts (phonebook)? Is there anything needed that it does not backup?

If you sync with Outlook, then there is no real need for a back up of the contacts. Can someone email me a copy?

That's the thing, I don't like Outlook. I use Outlook Express at home and Outlook at work. I don't want to mix my business and personal stuff on my phone or on Outlook at work.

The straightforward answer is that if you do a backup, smash your phone on the floor, walk into Best Buy (which just so happens to be where you smashed your phone), purchase a new phone, stick in the SD card (which you took out before you smashed your phone to peices in front of the Best Buy which you are now standing outside of) and do a restore, you will be looking at the exact same phone with every registry tweak you put in, all your programs, all your contacts/to do's/memo's (for those of us who use a memo program for the smartphone)...basically it restores everything. And no, I cannot send you a copy because it's software, not freeware. You can go to their website and download a trial version which will work for 5 days.

Kingbear - I have an added Sprite Question...Is there anything i can do with my phone which will now not take a charge to back it up, and then restore when XBM finally gets me a new one? I dont mind buying the software, but if I cant get the phone to turn on can I force the info? I know it is a stretch - but I really dont want to lose it all!

Actually, this is not correct. Sprite no longer offers a trial version. They will only sell you a version, and give a 30-day money back guarantee. There's a big difference between the two.

My experience is that it gets the handset back to 99% of where it was. When synchronizing the handset again, ActiveSync realizes that something has changes, and then wants to re-synchronize all of the contacts, appointments, and tasks.

The problem here is that it means that, once re-synchronized, ringtones must be re-assigned to contacts. (On an overwrite.) If one chooses to try and reconcile the two, there is risk of duplicate contacts, appointments and tasks. I've found this to be the case.

Yes, Sprite changed their policy which is rediculous. I can email a trial version if someone wanted it. (that shouldn't be illegal) If you like what it does, pay them for a key.

IMO, it's well worth the money!

Well, since no one is standing out side my door with handcuffs ready to slap on...

You can do this without paying by doing the following:

PM me and I'll e-mail you the Sprite Trial together with the Uprade Utility. The trial gives you 5 days.

Install Sprite on your phone. Do a backup including all System Data and Personal Data. Copy it to a safe place. Hard Reset the phone. Install the Upgrade Utility I'll provide you. Copy the file the upgrade utility made to a safe place. Upgrade the ROM. Install Sprite again (with a new 5 day trial from the day you install it). Copy the Upgrade file from the safe place to the program files directory where you installed Sprite. Do a restore and select System Data and Personal Data and point to the backup file you made on the old phone. Select the option "Restore from Previous ROM".

That should do it!
