Sl55 Usb Cable Software Problem!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: m_coupe1999

Hi...
I have the SL55 and I just bought the USB cable, but no software was provided. Does anyone know where to find it.....the computer is not recognising the cable or my phone? A link, or If you can email me the file (m_coupe1999@hotmail.com) would be very appreciated.
Thanks!!!

What for a cable do you use? The SL55 doesn't support native USB connectivity. The only USB-cable that works is a SIEMENS DCA 510. But this is cable which emulates a serial COM-Port.

The USB cable needs the drivers. Siemens Data Suite or Mobile Phone Manager will deal with the phone. If it's a genuine Siemens DCA-510 (it should have a bulge in the middle with a selector switch and the Siemens name) go to the Siemens website and find the DCA-510. You can get the drivers there.

Hi....Will this cable is for transfer between phone and PC (ringtones, etc). I bought the cable from ebay. It connects to the phone and then a USB connection to the PC. I can't find a software that will make it the PC recognize the cable + phone. A lot of people are suggestion the siemens data suite, but that doesn't have anything to do with making the computer recognize the cable + phone.
Thanks!

Carefully re-read my post. I told you where to get the drivers for the cable. Even if it's an aftermarket cable try the Siemens drivers.

hey 4rmula, I am having the same problem as m_coupe1999, though my data cable is an aftermarket, it doesnt say Siemens on it, and its usb with a small box with a switch on it, I tried the drivers you mentioned on the siemens website it installed, but the cable was still not recognized. I was given this cable by my cousin who went back to europe and gave me no CDs or Software to use it with, any suggestions? thanks a mil.

Most cell phones don't have native USB support, and really only have serial interfaces to them. The USB cables you buy, whether from Siemens or generic suppliers, simply have a USB-to-serial chip in them, to convert the USB connection to serial.

Now, no guarantees here, but the generic cables very often have USB-to-serial chips from a company called Prolific. Go to their download site at:
http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/v_filebrw.asp
...and follow the links for the "USB 1.1 Full-speed cable controllers." In there, there are drivers for 3 different variations of the PL-2303 chip; download them all. There's a very good chance that one of those will work with your generic cable. Oh, as a side note, I recommend you stick with their WHQL drivers; I've had problems with their non-WHQL drivers.

After that, you're not done. Go into your Device Manager and make sure you see the cable. It should be listed as a serial port under your "Ports (Com and LPT)" section. If it shows up, take note of the COM: number, and point your Mobile Phone Manager software (or others) to that port. You can change the COM port number in the driver properties if you have to.

good luck!!

I don't know about the aftermarket cables to be honest. I was given a Siemens DCA-510 cable from a very nice lady that I do some business with. She had an S46 and was sold the cable, which didn't work. She never bothered to return it and wound up giving it to me.

I've seen so many posts about aftermarket cables not working I think we need a sticky with the title "DON'T BUY AFTERMARKET DATA CABLES"

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Slight clarification to my last post...
It looks like Prolific has one .ZIP file with drivers for all 3 variations of the PL-2303, so there's really just one file to download. All you should have to do then is unzip it, and when you connect the cable and it asks for a driver, point it to the unzipped files....

Ditto! I had the same problem. Wouldn't detect the darn cable! I'd say go with infrared http://www.cell-phone-accessories.c...usb-mobile.html so you don't have to mess with attaching ANY cable to your siemens phone. Personally, I have had too many troubles while using phones connected to data cables. The problem seems to lie in the fact that the data is not transmitted properly in Siemens SL55 thru its cable connector at the bottom. Fortunately, the phone supports Infrared so you can bypass the phone cable altogether and go with infrared. About the cable you have, try selling it off to someone with another compatible Siemens model (like the lady you bought it from) because sl55 definitely has a problem with data cable connections.

Some things, like firmware upgrades, require a cable, unfortunately.

Hi.....
You are absolutely correct! I went to the siemens.com and typed DCA-510. That was the only way to find the driver! I typed everything else possible and nothing worked. My cable works now! Keep in mind that after you download this driver, you have to download the data suite also from the downloads section on siemens website. If having problems locating the phone, click on data suite (after being downloaded and saved in your pc)...then go to settings, connection, and select search for phone!
I hope this helps others!
Thanks again 4mula1
Bye!

One last thing to add to this thread.

I finally came across a real DCA-510 for the first time. It too, it turns out, uses a Prolific USB-to-Serial chip. And the latest WHQL drivers from Prolific's web site, that I previously mentioned, work fine with the DCA-510.

I don't know what version of the Prolific driver Siemens is distributing, but the current one from Prolific with WHQL certification is v2.0.0.26. I've had several USB-to-serial adapters with Prolific chips, and anything prior to v2.0.0.18 is bad news for WinXP, in my experience.

Anyway, bottom line is, the driver from Siemen's site or Prolific's will work with either the Siemens cable or generic cables; however, for the latest release of the drivers, go to Prolific's site.

good luck everyone...

I had the same problam with the aftermarket cable. The siemens data suite and the comp wouldnt recognize it.So i got a driver (PL-2303) from the store where i got the cable.Even after instaling the driver from the cd wouldNOT help.I went on the original site of the PL2303 driver and downloaded it worked that way( btw the cd file size and the downloaded file size was excatly the same)

Posted by: 4mula1

Did you try www.prolific.com.tw? Works for me, yo.

Probably nt one is looking at this thread anymore but I found out which driver works and probably people are still having this issue.

Right click and download this file and rename the jpg ext to zip. So oti_6858.xip

http://server2.uploadit.org/files/fidorulz-oti_6858.jpg

When installing the cable direct it to the proper driver for your OS
