Fully restored blown 1990-1992 Camaro Z28
2005 Chrysler 300C.

Maybe a Hummer H2 and maybe a restored 32 Ford Roadster.

G35 Coupe
BMW 7.60

Family/Grocery/Shopping Car: Audi RS6 Avant
Need lots of room and space, might as well make it AWD

GT car: Aston Martin DB9
Not too harsh and with just a big enough boot.

Off-road/Winter car: Landrover Discovery
Not as daft as a Porsche Cayenne, and much more practical

Sportscar: Porsche Boxster or Mercedes SLK
I'll just have to close my eyes and pick.

Trackday car: Ferrari 360 Modena Challenge Stradale
A Lotus Elise/Exige may be more fun or faster, but I'm just a sucker for Formula 1 inspired technology. And also, no man's garage is complete without at least one Ferrari.

Classic car: 1964 Aston Martin DB5

Hypercar: Pagani Zonda Roadster
Because...do you have one? I Didn't think so.

Collector Car: McLaren MP4/4
Would of said the '62 GTO but seriously, what could be cooler?

Why on earth would you want a Discovery rather than the LR3? The Discovery is a POS compared to the LR3. My aunt had a Discovery and she really liked the car, but she got rid of it because it was in the shop almost all the time. The LR3 is supposed to be much more reliable and has more power than the Discovery.

Why a Discovery? I don't know, I really just sort of randomly chose it when I made that list (not much of an off-roader bloke). I reckon it was also because one of my good mates has a Disco. And I think the new ones look really funky.

(And seeing Jeeza conquer a Scottish mountain on TG in one also really impressed the pants off of me.)

Unlimited $$$ right?

Well, I'd also "buy" a chauffer and get this:

unlimited Money? Hum...
McLaren F1

I don't think you should be critizing mawti's choices... you chose the 300C and Dodge Ram as cars you'd buy if you had unlimited money.

So Car & Driver lied when they said the new LR3 was built completely under the blue oval?

Posted by: Koofteh

Why did you feel the need to post a billion of those icons? There's nothing funny about it buddy, American cars suck. What do they offer? The designs have historically been terrible, and have only improved slightly thanks to European involvement. They are slow, heavy and use ancient technology, which in turn gives the average American car a fuel economy of about 3 MPG. They don't handle well either, none of them.

So what are you arguing here? Car and Driver is written for the same rednecks who think buying a non-American car means you support Communism and/or terrorism.

The only reason I'd ever buy American would be if I wanted a cheap car... but you're really better off not doing that, since you'll get raped trying to get it fixed and keep it running.

So what is your argument? is not an argument.

So which American cars get 3MPG? Historically been terrible? What the hell are you on? The only thing European involvement has done for American cars is give ricers more options of cars to **** up. If they are so slow and heavy, then why is it all the American cars that are making 4-6 seconds in the 1/4 mile? They handle terrible? Then why are there 05 Mustangs that are winning races where handling is crucial? http://www.allfordmustangs.com/artm...ticle_561.shtml

Really? Then why do they review so many imports?

You would buy American cars if you wanted a cheap car? I thought that was like the main selling point of imports? Like I've said who knows how many times before, if you take care of your car like you should, no matter if it's import or domestic, it will last.

Ford also has its European division. most European Ford are built and design in Europe. without more thorough clarifying, that Car & Driver comment is not very creditable. i think you should be more reasonable 91RS, you are taking some commet too personally.

and now Mr. Darling, i think you are just being too biased.

i think there are still plenty nice American cars.

Ford GT(40), Z06, Escort Cosworth just to name a few.
and besides, British cars had never been very reliable either.

So a quote from a CAR magazine is not creditable? What the heck is then?

please read my comment clearly. Ford has it's European division headed by European. and their cars for European market are generally not considered as American cars. and on that basis, saying LR3 were designed and built by blue oval hardly explains LR3's relationship with American division of the blue oval.

either way, the new Disco is built and designed by British with Ford's money. that part i am sure about.

and please be more reasonable. i did not say Car and Driver not creditable. but rather, i say your quote from Car and Driver are way too brief to be creditable.

and for what it is worth, there ARE a lot of Car magazines that aren't very creditable. but generally, Car and Driver is a pretty reliable magazine.

Posted by: Koofteh

I feel bad for you 91RS... your patriotism and ignorance will rob you of experiencing a lot of nice cars. If you think 300C is the epitome of automobiles, then...

I think it's an obvious fact that American cars, by large, are all crap. Even if there's one or two that aren't, they didn't show up on your list. I'm out.

But I feel worse for you and all your little import loving American hating buddies. Ya'll go around saying that because I have no problem with my Southern Heritage and because I prefer American cars that I'm ignorant and I hate imports. If you could read and interpret things rather than assume, you'd know that I do not think the 300C is the "epitome of automobiles" but rather I think it is a very nice car. All ya'll say is that "you're to general" and "you're ingorant" becuase you know you're full of ****. American cars are not anywhere near as bad as ya'll make them out to be, and (for the most part) they are plenty reliable if you take care of them properly, and you know it! Yeah, it's a well known fact that I am not a fan of vehicles with 4 cyl engines and Hondas. That DOES NOT IN ANY WAY mean I hate imports, so stop saying and acting like I do. There are a good number of import vehicles I wouldn't have a problem owning (the Toyota Avalon being one of them).

As you say, "I'm out."

I don't see why he bothers.

Funny how carpoint says the following:

Final Assembly

Must be American.

Oh and because Holden is owned by GM the 2005 GTO is American too.

i would have to have :

BMW M3
Infiniti G35 Coupe
Lamborghini Gallardo
Mercerdes SL600 roadster
CHEVY SS Truck(whole 9 yards on it)
300C

and to many more to mention...

please be reasonable. you are just beating a dead horse.

Land Rover Disco (or LR3 for the American) is designed and engeered by British, and is build in UK, by a British brand. if that isn't un-American enough for you, i really don't know what is.

Posted by: mawti

I'm always one for a healthy debate. But frankly, I'm not quite sure where this discussion is going. And this all started because of 91RS' ignorance of the simple fact that the LandRover LR3 is still called a Discovery elsewhere in the world? So stating that one is a "POS" compared to the other would really be quite an absurd comment to make.

Quote:

But I really didn't want to make a big deal out of it, so I pretended not to understand what he was actually trying to say. (Notice how I posted a huge picture of the rear of the new Discovery3? Can anyone guess why?). Also, after reading some of 91RS' posts as of late, he is really starting to earn my respect so for such a minor detail, I decided to let this one slide.

How this discussion turned into a big argument about American built cars etc., is a real mystery to me.

Cheers lads.

[And one more thing. I totally agree with 91RS; the new Discovery (aka LR3) is massive improvement over the previous one.]

No, it shows as to which division was responsible for it's design and also production.

Does it make any sense for Ford's North American Division to engineer and design the vehicle in question, then have all the specs moulds and whatnot, shipped to Great Britan to be manufactured?

It's perfectly fine to say, for instance, the Nissan Titan, is an American truck, because it was designed, engineered, produced, and only sold in North America, even though the nameplate it's under is Japanese.

What Car and Driver ment to say was that this is the FIRST LAND ROVER PRODUCED WHILE THEY WERE OWNED BY FORD.

So you're telling YOU like to buy German cars? Because Chrysler's parent is German, and that the 300C is made and sold in North America, but still under a German parent company, which makes the 300C German?

Don't you realize where you're comments were flawed?

Mine:

Nissan 350z, It's my dream car, fully modify it, put a custom engine in it, everything custom, it is unlimited money right, and I'd figure out a way to go beyone Nitrous, and do Pure oxygen if I could.

BMW M3, I like the class of it.

Koenigsegg CCR, I'd get one of these in pitch black, tint the taillights and headlights black and the windows blacker than legally possible, and use it when I want to drive mysteriously.

2000 Celica GTS from Japan. They've got electronic climate control.

That's it. One of my eventual goals is to spend 27million on a 350z and make it as fast as possible.

And I don't even have my permit yet.

Posted by: Koofteh

I'm sorry, but people don't buy supercars to modify them.

No Ruf does not exist either

Heh actually for some reason they're not considered a "tuner" company but rather one that makes so much modifications that the British say it's a new car or something along those lines.

RUF isn't a tuner. but it is rather a manufacture.

though their still looks like most Porsche, they built everything from ground up on they own using either their own parts or Porsche parts of their spec. in fact, they have their own set of VIN that's different from Porsche's. and they have their own warranty program as well as retail chain.

Simply old school 1982-85 Mercedes Benz 300D, 19-20 inch Lowenhart, repaint black (Nighthawk Black Pearl, like my Accord), ditch the diesel (swap with Benz C240K), re-trim the interior with custom luxury leather works and there ya go!

Toyota 4-Runner as a daily cruzer and mod it very hard like the one in 'Pimp My Ride' show but I want it all black (not 2-tone). Imagine a truck with Satellite dish, web-camera, on board computer, and even television under the car

Even with unlimited funds, since they are obviously still in use, those machines are not for sale...yet. And I'm not even sure if Williams sells their recent cars. But you can however, now pick up a nice, slightly used F2002 or older.

(I realize this is only a hypothetical question. But we shouldn't extend it beyond the realm of possibility^^)

I knew IRL runs mostly ovals but if you didn't mention it, I wouldn't have bothered to really check. Nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I saw this.

Lol Indy was STRICTLY Ovals after the split with CART (being mainly road with some Ovals and some Super speedways)

There are quite a few CART guys now in the IRL.

I kinda like how CART's leveled the playing field but restricting the engine you can use, but that kinda takes away from the overall competitive nature of the sport (it really only boils down to who's the best driver in CART now)

Unlike F1 where it's who has the best driver, engine and chassis

And even moreso in ALMS, who has the best driver, engine, chassis, modular car design for fast transmission changes, etc
