Any phone with a Keyboard, namely, the Treo 650.

thanks for the reply, does it have a built in AIM client?, and does it use data (MB) or text messages for communicating with instant messages?

I suggest Nokia 6800 or 6820

I am not a big Nokia fan, but if you need to send a lot of text messages, that QWERTY keyboard that unfolds into something actually usable is hard to beat.

lg 9100, it has the full keyboard and the phone was built with text and IM in mind

Its not a phone, but check out Cingular's Ogo http://www.ogo.com

has email and instant messaging, keyboard, and is unlimited data for 17.99/month

Thats really cute - never seen it before....

I'd go with the LG F9100 only because it has AOL and Yahoo IM built into it. And IM comes off of your bill as a text and media net.

I agree with cellgeek101. If AIM is the most important feature for you I'd go with the LG9100 too.

The Treo 650 does not have AIM built in but there are several AIM applicationa available for the Palm OS.

You could also look at the SX66.

Does Cingular sell the Ogo in stores? I remember seeing one in an AT&T store but I don't recall ever seeing one at Cingular?

I'd get a treo650 and verichat (from iambic.com, or you can usually find it if you look elsewhere.)

It will let you log into aim, icq, msn, and yahoo all at the same time and uses data, not data+text.

Or get a 6620/7610/n gage (or any 850 s60 phone) and use agile messenger, it's free and only uses data.

Verichat is made by PDA Apps.

SMT 5600 also can use Agile messenger

See i was thinking about getting the F9100, but I see so many people camplaining about it - maybe I just need to try it out for mysellf to see if I like it or not.

there were a bunch of problems with the 9100 at first but the first batch was all taken back by cingular HQ, and ever since there have been no problems with the phone, i would try it i got one for my fiance and she loves it all she does is text and IM

Awesome - b/c all I will be doing is texting at work - well thats all we do now....LOL. But I think the full keyboard would be really cool. Thanks for the info - its good to know SOMEONE is out there enjoying the phone instead of complaining. I knew there was no way they would advertise that phone WITH AMERICAN IDOL and it have as many problems as people complained about.....THANK YOU!

Can you explain exactly what it bills you? Is the signing on and off and the updating of the buddy list charged as data and the actual messages charged as text messages?

Exactly right.

Thanks. I suppose that is better than the way Verizon and T-Mobile do it. Their IM programs bill all in text messages, so you get charged 2 messages to sign on, 2 to sign off, and 3-4 to update the buddy list (choosing "update buddy list" from the options menu) depending on how large your buddy list is. They really start to add up after a while.

well i know on the sidekick plan its jut a simple 30 a month for unlimited data and stuff...

or a dollar a day prepay...

i wonder how that works if i were to use the lg

I second the Nokia 6800/6820 recommendation. I have one and find the keyboard easiest to type on amongst most phones, including the Treo and other PDA type phones. The good thing about 6800/6820 is that it can be folded into a regular sized phone (see my avitar) so you don't have to haul around a brick just to have a full QWERTY keyboard.

You truly cannot beat the AIM on the Sidekick II. its by far the best AIM app on a phone, but the SK2 is a terrible phone beyond that.

I use Verichat on my Treo 650, its always on, running in the background. You can set it to use data or SMS.
Full QWERTY keyboard is a MUST for IMing.

Only problem is that it won't work w/ Cingular. Despite using GSM, it is not compatible w/ Cingular SMS svc.

Better choice might be Samsung d307, Cingular 8125, LG F9200.

I send & receive around 1,500 text messages a month. So, of course I was going to go with the Treo 650, but after going to a store & trying it out, I realized that it would be difficult for me to drive & text at the same time. I spend a lot of time in the car & it would be near impossible for me to text on that phone while driving down the freeway. So, that is one thing you would have to consider if you spend a lot of time in the car. My friend has the SE W600 & I tried the text messaging on it & I didn't like it. When using T9, you type the word & it seems like a pain to select it. IMO, the user interface on the Motorola's is most user friendly & the keypads are bigger. There's nothing more annoying than trying to text message on a phone with a small keypad & drive down the freeway.

So, go with a Motorola..... RAZR is best IMO..... big keypad; big screen; cool looking phone.

You may want to check out the LG F9200. It has the fold out keyboard, but also can be used without the keyboard with T9.
