Uploading V710 Ringers & Wallpaper

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've searched through the forums and read the info on posting new ringers and wallpaper on the V710; but I'm still not sure exactly how to upload ringers/wallpapers to the V710 and I can't get it to work. I've only had the phone for a few days. I did read one instance that said to replace the ringers and pictures with BitPim, but I've already removed most of them (the ones I didn't want) from the phone, so this isn't an option.
I have the following software (and its working) if that helps:
BitPim
Motorola PST
p2kseem
USB data-cable with V710 drivers installed

I used to have the LG VX4400 and it was very easy to upload/change ringers and wallpaper using BitPim, but those options are grayed out with this phone as I am using Other CDMA Phone.

Can anyone help me, I'm really lost. Details are great. I thought SEEM edits would be harder then adding ringers and wallpapers, but so far it's not proving to be that way.

i'm not sure how to do it with the cable yet but to send wallpapers and ringtones to your v710, you can email it to your phone as an attachment and save it. just send it to 1234567890@vzwpix.com (#'s being your cell# [ex.555-555-5555]. i believe wallpapers are 176x220 pixels at 72dpi. there are a ton on this forum. just do a search. as for mp3 ringtones, i cut down my mp3's with mptrim (google it, its free). and to tone down the quality i use dbpoweramp music converter (also free). once you have a nice 30sec mp3 file you want to convert the quality with dbpoweramp to say 64 bitrate and 22000 quality so the file size stays at about 200kb. it can be a little over but i think if its too big, it won't go through to your phone. now before you send it, rename that mp3 file to .mid. send that file as an attachment to your phone, and once you receive it, store it and it will be in your media library. i hope that helps.

btw, good thing about mptrim is it allows you to cut begin and end seconds and has fade in and fade out. dbpoweramp just allows you to save mp3's at a lower or higher sound quality by adjusting the bitrate, stereo, etc...

yeah, it does cost i think 25cents each time. but i purchased this promotion they had for 5.00/month. you get the unlimited in-text/pix messaging and 50 bonus for anything outside (such as emailing, other providers,etc...). So you emailing it to your phone would cost 25cents each unless you get that promotion plan. there's also higher tier plans such as 10.00 gets you 250 extra, 15.00 500 extra... etc. don't quote me on the numbers. they are all estimates.

So there's no way to just upload them directly with the data cable huh. That kinda sucks, it was so easy with my LG VX4400.

sorry, didn't realize you had the usb cable as stated in your original post. i ran into this site on this forum... good starting point. http://zano6.home.att.net/V710_index.htm

i'm sure there is a way to put pics/ringtones on your phone with the cable. try doing a search on the motorola and verizon forums here. there are a ton of guides for the 710. i think there was something about needing MPT and some other necessary files.

i'll let ya know if i do run into anything though. i'm still waiting on my usb cable so I'll be researching these forums for the next couple days

I got a 128MB TransFlash card pretty cheep on eBay. I gave up on tiring to directly upload ringers and photos to the phone. I did the seem edit to so I can move files between the card and the phone. The one trick here was I don't have a SD card reader, but I was able to use a digital camera to manipulate media on the card then move it to the phone. Works pretty well.

To get ringers/graphics on the phone, there are a few ways... see the bottom of my TransFlash page.

For installing/configuring Mobile Phone Tools, including the Multimedia Studio option, see my MPT page there is info on using USB Data cable OR Bluetooth.

I have other info there to... so read it all. Any questions... hop over to the HowardForums' Temporary V710 Discussion and post.. that is where most of us with Verizon Moto V710's are.

i have a motorola v710, its a great phone to mess with my boss's bluetooth enabled dell axim, but verizon is gay. i had a motorola v265 and alot of ppl were saying u can use data cable to get stuff on it...who cares...just do the email trick and u can even get mp3's on there, if u change the ext from .mp3 to .mid.. now my buddies all have the samsung ach670, and u can send pix and midi ringtones from email to them also. witht the dang v710, every time my phone recieves the email, and is downloading it, the phone crashes. SUX, ive sucessfully sent 2 emails that i got my ringtones out of, but other than that, i end up blocking my email address, cause it will keep downloading and crashing, all night and day...........grrrrr, im getting a transflash card with the sd card reader, so it may be a sucess, ill let ya'll know

that is usually because the file you are sending is too big... Keep it below 300K and you should not have any problems.
