Storage Card location for ringtones?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

reposting this as I did not get any usable solutions.

Wifey has created some custom ringtones and wants to load them on the SD Card in her MPx200 and then assign them as ringtones. Tried a number of different locations but they still don't show up as an available ringtone when she goes to assign in CONTACTS. Is this possible or do we need some sort of "add-in" ?

Supposedly putting it in the root of the storage card will do the trick. I noticed that putting a song in the ApplicationData/Sounds folder will allow you to set it as a ringtone, but I never noticed if I can assign a contact to a specific ringtone when it's in that directory.

tried both locations and still unable to use thm as a ringtone.

I found that they must be placed in Application Data\Sounds. Then a reboot!

Yep tried that, no joy! :-(

My sounds are located in \Storage\Application Data\Sounds. They would not read from my SD card. There is a post in another thread (can't remember which one) on editing the registry to point to your SD card to look for sounds. For now I simply copied the files over to the above location I didnt need a reboot for them to be found....

The storage card root directory method will only work with the MPx 220. The MPx 200 will reconize files from the storage card..I just forgot how to do it.....****.

TRY to remember duide! My wife is kicking my tail over this and she leaves for a buisness trip Tomorrow afternoon and wants me to have it fixed by then!

Didn't for me. I moved a ring tone to the root of my storage card ... and I can't pick it as a custom ring tone for a single contact.

ahhh if only that was an ption! She's got the phone memory pretty much filled up as that is where she was installing app's to before I got her an SD Card!!!

Ohhhh you are wanting to assign custom ringtones to contacts and the ringtones you want use is on the storage card....well thats a no go on both devices....there is no way to do that. While you can set your ringer to a custom ringtone from the storage card you can't select the same ringtone that you could select thru Start, Settings, Sounds for a contact ringtone.....as of now there is no way to do that.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :::::::;sound of screaming:::::::::

I thank you for clarifying this, I have been trying all sorts of suggested locations from users on HoFo, & Modaco with no results and now I know WHY!

Cheers Omega!

The V180 and the MPx 220 are two different phones running with two different OS. There is a registry key(s) to change it I am sure...no one has found it yet...or you simply can't.

Hmmmm I **LIKE** a challenge!

Go for it then....its not easy to find since it deals with Outlook on the phone. Contacts is part of Outlook on the phone so its deep down somewhere in there...I haven't wanted custom contact ringtones bad enough to work on it.

When I get some spare time I think I may just take a looksee...

Found this over on Modaco:

01. FIRST CREATE A FOLDER ON THE SD CARD NAMED SOUNDS

02. COPY ALL THE SOUNDS FROM WINDOWS TO THIS FOLDER (FOR YOUR ALARM SETTINGS AND SYSTEM SOUNDS)

03. PLACE YOU CUSTOM RINGTONES IN THIS FOLDER

04. OPEN YOUR REGISTRY EDITOR, GO TO CURRENT USER CONTROL PANEL SOUND CATEGORIES

05. HERE YOU NEED TO CHANGE ALL THE DIRECTORY VALUES FROM WINDOWS TO STORAGE CARDSOUNDS

06. NEXT YOU MUST COPY ALL CONTACTS YOU WANT TO HAVE A CUSTOM RING TO YOUR SIM CARD.

Posted by: CERT_USAF

Yes but I didn't need to carry out the final step of copying contacts to SIM CARD. Wifey is now a happy camper so I am heading to bed **GRIN** **WINK**

I saw this post a few days ago, and I meant to post this past thread. I use this program Kherm made, and have no problems with it at all. I copied all sounds in the folder on the card, and i can use any sounds on the card for ringtone, etc. Don't know what the program does (prob just makes the modifications DUMIFIED)...but it works for me!
