Well i have posted several questions that no one can seem to answer. I figured I would try to but them all together for one last chance that someone might know.

1) How do you access the service menu to change the wap ip and other features? on the LG vx8000, you press menu, then 0, then 000000. Whats the sequence for this phone?

2)The phone says it has an mp3 player on it. What is the folder that you put music into through qpst? I dont want the songs in the ringtones folder. IF i load them onto a mini sd card, will they play in music or ringtones?

3) When you put videos .gp2 pr whatever onto the mini sd, do they play in the flix gallery or a seperate medi player?

4) If i take pictures on my did camera and save them to the mini sd through an adapter, will the pics be transfered to my phone when i insert the mini sd?

I guess i will know a lot of this when my mini sd comes in the mail. The service menu thing i really want to know though. Any help???

To get to the service menu, dial ##browser and press the end key. You cannot however change the homepage, unless you are a wiz at hex editing files that are in the phone.

As far as I know you have to put the Mp3s on the card to play them. And to play them you hold down the play button on the front of the phone or go to your media section in the menu of the phone.

and movie files, ahh, I haven't been able to get any videos that I put on the phone to work. I've read that others have had this problem. It seems only the videos you record on your own work, until someone figures it out

the last question about transferring your pictures, i have no clue, because i haven't done this. But i hope the rest of the information I gave you helps

I did read the forums. Neither one of those tell me anything except that no one knows how to do anything with this phone. I think I'll sell it and get another lg vx8000.

I'm a dunce. What do you mean by this? I presses ## and held left for browser, that doesnt do anything. I pressed ## and hit menu, nothing. Can you give me a How to do this for dummies version of what you said.

Ahh, what I meant by ## browser and press end, was to spell out the word browser on the phone keypad buttons

Got it. Ok so free wap on the 8940 seems possible. Heres how i do it on the lg vx8000:

Enter ips and ports, delete the password, and change the homepage.

You can do all of this on the 8940 but i get connection timed out. Im thinkin i do not have working ip's. Does anyone have any that work right now? Also i think you have to use either port 8080 or 80. I dont know which one.

Got it! i went to publicproxyservers.com, links, went to the site that is updated hourly. You have to get ip's with port 80. Also go to host config and change your port from 8080 to 80. I now have free wap on my phone. I found it first.....does a little dance....makes a little love....gets down tonight :-)

Congrats!

I'm glad you got it to work. Port 80 is what I use, although sometimes I use port 8080 because I can't access yahoos wap site through port 80.
If anyone else here has used other ports with the 8940 let me know please.

now you have to enter a proxy code, one that has port 80, or if you have to port 8080. proxy4free.com or whatever other site you know of.

this only uses minutes, so i wouldn't use the wap during the day, use it during your free weekend and evening minutes. and you can do it because verizon just thinks you are making a phone call and using your minutes so you won't get in trouble ...
(but i don't think you should tell verizon
you are doing it of course if you are ever
on the phone with them or

one good portal is wap.mobileweb4u.com another place is mopilot, i'm not sure of the exact addy... you can also build your own site and put links on it at www.tagtag.com ...

i read on a forum if you put f_ in front of the filename it works on the sd card in the flix folder... haven't tried yet tho...

What exactly do I need to configure to get free access to the web?? I tried just changing the host and i thought i was getting somewhere but i guess not cuz im stuck again! So theres the UP Proxy IP and the Host Config! What settings need to be changed in each of them?

Wap Guide for dummies

on the main screen with your wallpaper, dial ## 2769737, then hit the end key.

A internet settings menu will pop up. You need to get on a pc and go to pubicproxyservers.com to find ip addresses with port 80.

Change the up proxy ips and ports accordingly. CLR /Back and go into the host settings menu.

Change your port to 80, clear name and password out, set homepage to wap.yahoo.com or any other wap site. I think thats all.

Press the end button. Go to where you have good verizon wireless service and press the left arrow button on your phone to acces the web.

And i know you will ask this so... yes its free- you dont get charged 5 dollars a month for internet. no its not free- it uses your anytime minutes so if you only have 500 like me, you can burn them up quickly. I only get on the web after 9:00 or on the weekend when minutes are free.

now my questions, please see the 2 questions above about videos and ringtones. My other question is- IS there a way to put in differant wap adresses that you want to visit. Because if yahoo is your homepage, you can only go to the links on this page. I hate changing my homepage eveytime to go somewhere else.

also do pix show up on your phone when you add them to the pix folder on your mini sd card? B/c flix do not.

I know on some kyocera phones if you make a contact you can put a web adress entry for that contact. then go to contact, highlight the web address and press send. This will connect you to the website highlighted. IS this true for the 8940. I dont have my phone with me.

also, whats the thing under my screen name for? I was a phone expert now im a phone collector. What is this for?

all are with Port 80. there where many more at the website but i just got these from the first link "proxy list 1"

Now which ones am I sapose to use, which ones work? Do i need to put the same IP on each AP1 in UP link 1-3 and same for AP2 in UP link 1-3 or are they sapose to be all different? Hope someone can help.

Ok guys....I've been doing the same thing and set wap.google.com as my homepage...I can search and get directions and that's it. When I try to view a webpage I get an error, so I've screwed up somewhere. I've also decided to stop messing with it. I'm just going to pay for web access and see how I like it for a month, because I realized something...

You may be getting access for free right now, but verizon is going to catch on, think about it. You're using minutes and connecting to the system each time you access the web, so they're going to figure it out. I'm sure they can see whether or not your talking or using get it now or whatever when airtime is being used. Just my $.02...

EDIT: I see where Pamela80 (i think) said that they just think you're using your phone, but do you really know that?

SouthernFlower: Anonymous means that the websites you are visiting can't track you on their servers to see who you are, if you are using a proxy from china they think you are from china. It's not a big deal unless you are doing something illegal on a website

You can use just one proxy number at a time if you want or put a bunch of them in there just in case one proxy goes down. If you want to check to see if a proxy works and/or the speed of it go here, it saves you a lot of time: http://www.atomintersoft.com/produc...-proxy-checker/ they also have a link to a few proxy numbers on there too.

Motu: If it helps when I use it, which is only during offpeak, I see the minutes add up on my offpeak minutes and not my peak which I barely use.
Plus, you are allowed to go on 14.4 modem speed using your phone for free, verizon has said this (as long as you don't download anything). So verizon will just think you are using the phone for a call or using the free web access.

do you mean entering manually any webpage you want to go to? if so just go to www.google.com/wml .. click on search options and click enter a url. I've read many people use that as their homepage for that reason.

I still cannot get yahoo's portal to load on my phone

I even went back to using port 8080 when it USED to work. I have no idea what's going on

I'm using aol's portal for weather/horoscopes/news but it's not as good as yahoo.

pamela, what is aols portal, i have tried numerous things. Can you log in to check mail from here? I have no idea why your yahoo doesnt work. IT works for me but i dont like it b/c it doesnt have a search funtion and i dont have yahoo mail. They need a wap site with a search function for other wap sites. Googles just searches normal websites which you cannot see on the phone so its kinda pointless.

i got questions about the mini sd card. I put a .3gp video file in the flix folder. I cant see it on the phone. Someone said if you go to where you buy a video clip on get it now, then end get it now they will show up in the flix folder. I cant do this b/c i dont have v cast available so when i hit video clips it says not available. Does the 8940 play .3gp files? If so how do i get it to show up?

Also the only folders on the mini sd are flix, pix, and music. If i add a ringtones folder will they show up? If not, is there a way to put ringtones on the phone via mini sd? I dont have a data cable

has anyone been able to get tagtag to connect. I have tried my site on the lg vx8000 and it works fine but not on the 8940. I have tried:

j: when you go through the video deal...go to flix and it will so say no video clips, then your video will appear in the list. however, I have yet to get one to play. i can get it to show up, but it won't play...

now, to all you tightwads...

i just subscribed to mobileweb and it's super user friendly and has tons of sites on there including aol, yahoo, etc for mail...mapquest...weather...news...games...e!onlin e...and tons more. it's really sweet and it's only $5. sure it's cool to try to get it for free, but you're not giong to get anything nearly as nice as the vzw site that's already set up for your phone. maybe i'm wrong, but you guys should come off the $5 for a month and give it a swirl. i mean, you're already getting free wallpapers and ringtones...

I tried the mobile web for $5 but i got rid of it after a month because for me i could just get to any site they offered for free. Having a good wap homepage is important though. www.tagtag.com is working for me. Rarely they are down so I don't know why it wasn't working for you. If you want to test out to see if it's your phone or them that makes it not work download opera web browser. It has the capability to view wap pages, I use it all the time to register on wap sites to save myself doing something that would take a long time on my phone or to view my tagtag page.

NOW FOR THE AOL/HOTMAIL/POP EMAIL AND FREE MSN

There is a wap site called wapagportal.com ... you have to register and confirm your account through email first. On this site you can use MSN messenger for free without text message usage. Plus you can setup 2 email accounts, pop or imap for free and it works. They have an option to automatically setup hotmail for you. But this is how you setup your aol email, I just did it and it worked for me.

your screen name
your password
imap.aol.com
leave the port 143 setting alone

and there you have your mail!

aol's portal is www.aol.com, aol automatically fowards it to wap format when you access it through your phone. But there is no email access from their site that's why I'm glad I found the site above.

ok i went on the site and registered. I dont see anything about imap.aol.com i see mail, but no aol. There is messanger and other things. For messenger there is a passport and password log in. I do not have msn so i guess i cannot use this. IF i did, can you im an aol user with msn? Im not that familiar with iming. IS it just aim to aim or other providers are ok.

I got a new CDM8940 today! They left my old battery but I had a software issure so verizon gave me a new phone. I'll let you all know how the battery life holds up on this one... I am thinking the bad battery life was due to the faulty software!

out of the examples above, how do you enter tagtag to access it? it works on my vx8000 but it wont come up on the 8940.

off the subject of wap...is there another menu to access other features of this phone? ex. my vx8k i can enter the service menu and make the camera full screen, record 25 second vids, get gps to tell me my coordinates, and all sorts of goodies. IS this possible on this phone?

I got my phone to connect to the web, using the google wap. I can then perform a search and get all the results. However, if i want too click on the link, i get a 404 error (page not found). Does anyone know how i can actually open the links?

For the mail, it's not automatically setup, you have to go to the mail area, and account settings, add a new imap mail account and use the settings i listed above to get it to work. As for MSN, no people can't contact AOL users with it. The only thing you can do is tell your friends to download Trillion on their computers (which let's you be on msn and aim at the same time) and make a free msn account so they can talk to you that way. It sucks for me too because I don't know anyone on MSN either and MSN is the only free wap based service that I can find. There used to be one for AIM but it's been down for a month and I don't think it's coming back.

As for service menus. That is the only one I know of... I went to http://www.earthuser.com/8900/ and found out about the ##browser end code, maybe there is some other information there you can use. The only thing I know how to do with the phone is put ringers/wallpaper/movies on the phone.. oh and I also saw that you can put your own shutter sounds for the camera on the phone too but that seems like a pain for something so unimportant. If anyone else can find anymore service menus let me know. I used to have the LG vx6100 but I gave it to my dad, that phone was so easy to mess around with.

For the google wap... you are probably doing a search for regular webpages, you need to click on search options at the main page and choose mobile web, so you are only searching wap pages.

Im assuming you mean with a data cable? I put mp3's on the mini sd no problem but im having a hard time with videos. I put a .3gp file (which iswhat the phone uses to make flix) into the flix folder on the card but it doesnt show up on the phone. I wish i could do this b/c the phone itself only has so much memmory. I dont want to fill it all up with a video. Also you use future dial cable# 17 or something else? I havent bought one yet but i guess i need to ::sigh::

Have you had trouble with videos over 1M? It seems none of mine will work that are over 1M in size. The ones that are like 289k or 678k, etc. work just fine, but the others give me a message "switch to/retry". Any ideas here?

ive only tried a few, didnt really pay attention to the size b/c i have plenty of room on the sd card. So far i havent gotten anything to work. Maybe the phone doesnt read into this folder. I have a pqi card. I wonder if the phone wasnt programmed to read flix off of the card or maybe the card isnt set up in the right directory that the phone is trying to look in.

Success!!!!! I was patient and kept pressing retry and now have 6 videos on my phone including a full episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force!!! I'm so stoked! Thanks to rollins (i think) for the stoik settings! SUPERB!

Along with some cool pictures I've resized as wallpapers! Also would posting this on the forum be legal or should I post on my website?

Yeah, I used the settings given in the 8940 Video thread and they worked. However, I am going to test with higher frame rates, because the video is very laggy, like using a slow modem to stream video.

I got them on the phone...i haven't messed with the SD...i just have some mp3s on it right now. Thanks for the info about river. Do you use the same settings as stoik?

i used qpst for the vids...just go to fold 12513(?) then downloads and put them in that folder. My ATHF vid is 11 1/2 mintues and looks perfect...i have a bunch of shorter clips between 1&4 minutes and they also look perfect. problem = ATHF is 12 MB, but it's awesome...

Set up a tagtag space...that's what I've done. through tagtag, you can set up all the wap links like wap.ebay or whatever. i currently am subscribed to mobileweb and it definatley offers more than free wap because I can enter any web address and it works. i was just messing around seeing what all would work and you can go to any website you can think of...yes, even porn. normal webpages suck though because they require far more memory than the phone is able to commit. wap pages are what you want and like i said, can link up on tagtag...i'm probably going to cancel my subscription after this month, I just wanted to see how nice verizon's was...not worth $5 as i won't use it enough, but overall it's pretty sweet and very user friendly.

I am having the same problem with tagtag..

I put http://tagtag.com/username (with my name of course) and i even tried bobz's and all i got was "For wireless internet services, please dial *611".

Anything I am doing wrong?

I am using port 80.

As far as I know you can use 8080 and 80. I had 8000 work for me, but it's hard (for me atleast) to find port 8000's that work fast.

If you email mp's to your phone you can save them to your gallery and use them as ringer

the whole emailing the mp3 to your phone works, but the quality sucks for air...

get a data cable and cooledit or some other music editing program. cooledit is super easy and rocks. edit mp3 as desired and use the data cable to transfer it to your phone. pictures work the same way...the sd card is kinda worthless as you can't actually take the pics off of it...it's cool for mp3s, but that's about it. i feel a little bumb for spending so much $$$ on a 256 mb sandisk...oh well. anyway, the data cable is the only route to go with using the 8940...

I had yahoo poppin up but it wasnt my homepage. I cleared my cache, cookies, etc. And it fixed that prob. I was hopin it would let me on tagtag but no. I set timeout to 60 instead of 30. This does nothin. I have my auth and pw cleared out. I tried puttin vzw back in as my pw. Nothin. My ports are 80 which u say works. There has 2 b somethin differant u guys r doin to get tagtag. Every other site works but tagtag. Ahh!

Could someone give a more complex list of WAP sites? Start a new thread! Call it CDM8940 - WAP Sites As far as tagtag goes PEEZY I believe you need to subscribe to verizon b/c montu was the only one to get tagtag to work and that was b/c he was subscribed to the vzw web service. Montu when your month is over let us know if you can still access tagtag!

ok...apparently you have to have do some more hacking...pamela80 had it done to her phone i believe, so i guess that's why hers works. i tried it on my girlfriend's 8940 with no luck...

so there's more to it than simple proxy settings, etc.

i got it to work on a LG6100 and i assumed it would work for us...

I wonder if i subscribe for a month, then canel, will it be available? IT is available through my lg vx8000 but i do have vzw mobile web.

when i use wap.google as my homepage, i can do a search and get results...but when i click on a link it gives me a 404 error. Someone previously told me i needed to swithc it to search on the mobile web and not regular web. I don't see any way to do this. Also, the wap.google description says that it limits everything to the mobileweb. Anyone know how to get the links to work for me? Also had problems with yahoo....most things work, except the games section. Any ideas?

its not on wap.google. Ii is on www.google.com/wml. You can click on the "entire web" (underlined) and you can choose mobile web. My problem is when i tried to do this, i searched for wachovia and the results came back saying "no results found for p0rn" and i searched for banks and the results were "no results found for sexe". So i dont know whats up.

btw...anyone got a wap page for wachovia? to check account balance and etc

the only folders on the mini sd are flix, pix, and music. If i add a ringtones folder will they show up? If not, is there a way to put ringtones on the phone via mini sd? I dont have a data cable

also do pix show up on your phone when you add them to the pix folder on your mini sd card? B/c flix do not.

I know on some kyocera phones if you make a contact you can put a web adress entry for that contact. then go to contact, highlight the web address and press send. This will connect you to the website highlighted. IS this true for the 8940. I dont have my phone with me.

also, whats the thing under my screen name for? I was a phone expert now im a phone collector. What is this for?

Motu Ive followed the sticky guide for putting on .wmv files but im not having any success... (trying to put on sealab) Can you outline the software, and process you use to get videos on your phone?

Mine show up but when I try to play the nav button comes up cycle thru the options then just says unable to play.

Any help would be awesome....ive spent hours on line trying to find other guides or info but couldnt find any out.
