computer not detecting cable at all

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

my sister bought a usb cable for her sanyo 8200 off ebay.

I'm trying to get it setup but its not working.

When I plug the cable into the PC, nothing happens. No "auto-detect", or "new hardware found" popup happens at all. Using WindowsXP.

I went into the control panel and told it to search for new hardware, but it didn't find anything.

The cable just came with a CD with some inf files on it. I right clicked on all 3 of them in the Sanyo folder and told it to install them. Nothing seems to have happened.

After doing all that, I go into bitpim and it says "failed to auto-detect the port to use, I couldn't detect any candidate ports"

when I plug the cable into the phone (while its plugged into the PC) it charges the phone, so it seems the cable isn't broken or anything.

help

hey

i just bought a USB cable for my VI-2300 on ebay, the cable is really suppose to be for the 8100, but it works. I was wondering if you would send me the files that are on the CD that was sent to you, all the sanyo phones are compatible with that software i'm sure.

thanks

josh

Sounds like it may be a driver problem, did you test it on any other sanyo phones?

I am having the EXACT same problem, except I am using Windows ME... Were you able to get it to work?? I've been going crazy for over 5 hours today trying everything imaginable. I'm using the same programs, and everything... I hope you found the solution!!

Same here,, I have a 7300 and a 8200 that I need to connect, and nothing works..

I am going to try this link.. Looks promising.. http://mysite.verizon.net/thelandonfamily/sanyo.html

I tried that link as well, during my DAY LONG ordeal!! It downloaded the same files that I got from the sanyo site, and I just can't get them to work. I don't understand it, but maybe it'll work for you! Please re-post if you get it to work!!! I think I'm going to work on it again tomorrow... I'm hoping that ignoring it for a couple of days will give me fresh perspective (not to mention I got over wanting to throw my PC out the window!!). Good Luck!

the arrow in the cable goes to the front. if you put it in the wrong way, it charges the phone. check both sides.

wow, that worked. I feel like an idiot for not trying that, but on all my previous phones the cable only fit 1 way, so that didn't occur to me.

I plugged it in that way and the "found new hardware" thing popped up. I told it to use the drivers on the CD and it installed it.

Bitpim worked pretty well. Occasionally it would lose connection with the phone and I'd have to unplug and replug the cable in. Then it would work again.

Question, does anyone know if there's a limit on the max size midi file this phone will take? 1 rather large (30k ) midi file wouldn't show up on the phone, but all others did.

Well, that didn't work for me either, so it's either my PC, or it's just me When I figure out which one, I'll be sure to let you know!! hehehe (I have a feeling it's not the PC!)
