New GPS-equipped BlackBerry (NOT 7520)?!?

Today, I had a customer come to the store asking about "the new GPS-equipped BlackBerry". No problem, I thought, let me tell him about the 7520. But no, that wasn't what he was looking for! He was looking for a new GPS-equipped BB on CINGULAR! I told him there was no such beast, at least not yet, not that I'm aware of, but of course, he claimed to have seen it... complete with an external antenna!

I still think he was misinformed, and thinking of the 7520, or maybe the Treo 650 (if it even has GPS functionality), but just in case he wasn't... have I somehow missed the announcement of yet another new BB for Cingular (following close on the heels of the 7290 and the 7100g)?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Can't tell you who or where, but saw a "blurb" on TV that had a BB with full GPS capabilities including a navigational program. I believe it is coming.

Nextel has it available now.

NOT like I saw it on TV. This BB has an antenna and it was not a 7520. The antenna was thicker. "It" is new and not released.

The CDMA 1X 7750 and 7250's have A-GPS (assisted GPS). This technology is actually better, IMO, as it'll work wherever there's signal--unlike GPS, which requires line of sight to the sky.

Thanks Greg! I might've known you'd have heard of it!

But now, this just reinforces the initial idea I had. I've worked in retail for a long time... perhaps TOO long... and this customer has turned out to be my old nemesis: The Customer Who Sees a New Item They Want on TV or the Internet, But Doesn't Bother To Note Any of the Important Info About the Item (Such As the Fact That It's Not Out Yet), Then Expects the Store Employee(s) to Just Magically Know What the Heck They're Talking About!!!

My response to this whole thing? I went to BlackBerry.Com and signed up for the email newsletter. I figure when RIM makes some sort of official announcement about this new BlackBerry, I'll know about it.
