Treo 650 BT Headset

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I am looking for the best bluetooth headset for my 650. I tried the Jabra 200 headset first and returned it. The voice quality was poor (wind noise, echos, etc.) and when I placed the 650 in the case on my waist, the connection was terrrible.

I also tried the Plantronics 2500 but returned it. The voice quality was better but when I tried using the headset outside of the car (without placing the 650 in the case), the connection was worse than the Jabra headset.

I know that there must be a suitable headset which will work with this phone. I want good voice quality, noise cancellation and the ability to connect to the phone (at more than 1 foot distance) without static, echos, etc.

Anyone have a suggestion?

This is a post that has benn discussed over and over again. There are only a few headsets that pair well with the Treo 650. Try the treo bluetooth headset, also there are a few others that are supposed to work very well, i use the Treo one which is just a rebranded jabra and it works great! (not the jabra 200 or 250, i forget exactly which one.) Do a search in this forum on bluetooth headsets youll find a ton of info.

I performed a search on this forum and only found three posts discussing this issue. There doesn't seem to be a consensus about the best headset to work with the Sprint Treo 650.

The suggestions so far are for the treo bluebooth headset (from PalmOne? but not Jabra 200/250) and Motorola HS850.

I will try to locate these headsets locally as I want to try them before I purchase them.

The Motorola headset is a good one and i use it with my v600 but, there is a bit of a delay with it.

I have the S/E HBH-300. This is the first BT Earpiece I have used and didn't test any others before I bought this one. (I did try a few on to see how the fit and feel was, and this was the deciding factor for me.) Now I realize there are a wide range of signal quality, volume, and maybe a few other features or issues I should have been thinking about...

1) When my BT e-piece does connect, it sounds good, 2) but the volume is low. 3) The pick up must enhance background noise, b/c callers think I'm in my boat just from the wind noise coming from my automobile air-conditioner vents, and more often then not, 4) it will NOT connect with my TREO 650 when I hit the activation button. (I have tried both "enabling and disabling device cacheing" which is suppose to help in this connection issue, but this doesn't seem to make any difference.)

Can anyone tell me...is this a common BT experience? is this a TREO issue? is this a SONY-ERICKSON HBH-300 issue? and does anyone have any suggestions?

Frustrated,

TarHeel

Well here's my .02

I've used the Moto HS820, Moto HS810 and now I am using the Treo BT headset. The HS820 is a good headset to use. It's compact, easy to use and very good sound quality. The only thing I didn't like was that before every call I had to tap the multi-function button to connect to the phone. This got stolen so I guess someone did me a favor.

I tried the HS810 for about 2 minutes and didn't like the way the earpiece felt on my ear. It made my ear look like a sheet in the wind and this ticked me off.

Just got my treo headset Thursday and So far I love it. It automatically connects to the T650 everytime I make or receive a call (no tapping required), good size like my old HS820 and long talk time and battery life. There are two things I have to get used to. The earpiece on the headset is a bit large. It doesn't make my ear sore but at times it doesn't seem like the headset's in my ear. The sound quality is still good though. The last thing is is that when I walk into another room away from my phone the connection gets a bit fuzzy. I have to walk closer to my phone, or take my phone with me to get clarity again. This could just be the BT connection though. Don't know for certain since this never happened with the HS820.

I've heard that a good BT is the Sony Eric HBH-600. I personally haven't used it but it's worth a try.

The actual Treo BT headset seems to work the best for me. ALthough it is a Jabra product, none of the others seem to work as good.

However, I still never get a ring tone in the ear with it. But.....it stays synced up with it all the time!! Thats a good thing. None of the other headsets (motorola and jabra) would stay paired up for some reason.

But it also is light and has LOW emissions. I used to get headaches with other headsets, but this one..man I wear it all day and Im ok.

Hope it helps out!

Mebbe its just my luck. I tried using the Treo BT headset and a Moto HS-850 and had mixed results. Connection with the Treo is tricky at best, and I ended up most of the time hanging up my BT connection and using the speakerphone. Annoying as I spend a lot of time on the road.

I'm a fan of the Treo Bluetooth Headset...it's pretty comfy, supplies some good sound quality and it looks good too (since it matches!).

do u lose connection from the 650 to the headset? mebbe i have a defective one.

Posted by: dbdynsty25

I haven't lost the connection yet...I've only been using it for a day though.

Posted by: sakic_lanche19

you may have a defective one. It shouldn't disconnect that often. The only disconnecting I've noticed is obviously when I get farther than 10meters and when I'm in a room that has 2 walls between me and the headset. I have to say that I'm very pleased with this headset. Other than almost misplacing it like 5 times in the last 3 days I've been happy.

For RazrKasem: Mine didn't ring in my ear for like the first 2 days but now it does it everytime. I didn't change anything. From what I've noticed it usually only starts ringing in the headset after 1-2 seconds of ringing on the phone.

I have the hs850... and it works great.. when a call comes in.. i just press the answer button.. there is maybe a 1-2 sec delay and it picks up... and if i let it ring long enuff.. i will hear the tone in the head set too..... only thing that sucks.. if i want to make a call i have to press the multifunction to connect first then make a call.... batt life is good.. i charge it once ever 1-2 weeks depending on how much i use it...

I too had the HS850 and experienced everything you said here. But I couldn't stand it. The delay really was a problem. I now have a HBH-660 and connection to the headset is instant. On incomming calls the phone rings then headset rings almost instantly. On outgoing calls, the headset auto picks up upon hitting send without having to hit the call button on the headset. You should give the HBH-660 or the TWH a try. Night and day compared to the HS850.

I use the Blue Trek G2 and have been very pleased with it. It's the only bluetooth headset I've tried so I can't compare it to any others. I originally purchased it to use with my Motorola V710 but now use it with the Treo 650.

What's the range of the Blue Trek? I couldn't go any further than 6 feet for my Treo headset before static takes over..

Posted by: skiman_nyc

anyone know if we can use any BT Headset to do more than conduct phone calls? perhaps listen to audible.com content on the treo?

I only use it in the car so I don't know the range. I can say that sometimes with the top down (convertible that is) I sometimes lose my connection.

Well........now mine disconnects whenever it wants to and almost never rings in the ear when the phone rings. It just disconnects when it wants to and I have to push the button to kinda re-pair again. It gets on my nerves.

I have a brand new, never used HS850 that I'm selling for $50 shipped.

I ordered the d@mn thing on ebay and then I found out that the HS850's dont work too well with the Treo 650s so now I'm stuck with a brand new headset that I wont be using.

on a lighter note...

I did order the SE HBH-660 which I've heard works flawlessy with the 650s so hopefully that headset will be a keeper.

Try using the Logitech Mobile Freedom with the Treo 650. Amazon has it for about $40 no tax no shipping usually. Review on Amazon are good too.

does anyone have any experience with the Jabra BT800?

Thanks!

Posted by: RazrKasem

The BT800 does not even work at ALL with the treo 650

It's the Jabra BT330, rebranded and OEM'ed for PalmOne.

I can't get my 650 to reconnect with my Treo BT headset. Every time I recharge the headset, it loses the connection and is a PITA to reconnect. How do you get rid of the existing profile so I can start from scratch?

You do it the manual way.

I use a Sony HBH-200 and it works great.

I use the Jabra BT110 and it works fine, It does take a couple of seconds to pair though. Not a big annoyance since I activate as soon as I hit send on the phone.

Posted by: snugglebunny

I have the Treo headset - it works ok, I suppose. I wish it wouldn't ALWAYS answer on the headset instead of just when I press the button - I've been caught dozens of times speaking to a dead phone while the headset is sitting on the car seat next to me.

The 650, on the other hand is just strange and locks up a fair amount, forcing me to remove the battery (I supopse I could pus the reset button, but battery removal is so much simpler).

I'll open a rant post on a separate thread. Maybe someone can point ME in the right direction.

I believe if you go into Prefs and go to handsfree you can change auto answer to 1 ring, 2 rings, immediately or disable. Sounds like disable is what you want.

Posted by: powertoburn

The Treo headset seems to be the best thus far in terms of transferring calls to headset immediately. WIth the Motorola HS810 sometiomes when I hit press the button to connect it won't there is some delay. I like the fit of the Jabra BT200 but it crackles too much and won't send calls automatically to headset like the Treo Headset.

Posted by: Caligula

I get no delay with the SE (Akono) HBH-660. I just wish that the dang Treo 650 could initiate voice dialing with BT headsets.

Posted by: mbtek69

I'm surprised there isnt an app. for this yet.

Posted by: namja

How often do you have to charge the Treo headset?

Posted by: Caligula

The Treo headset has that nice lithium polymer battery....it should get great life....

Autoanswer is set to off. But when the headset is near the phone and I press the answer button ON THE PHONE, the 'speakerphone' icon changes to a headset and the call is active on the BT.

If I had the headset in my pocket or in the tray on my dash I have to press the 'disable headset' icon, but that wastes some time and it annoying.

Plantronics M2500 works great on my Treo, just got off an 1 hour and half conf call with it.
