Hey all on HoFo!!

I was considering getting a PDA/Smartphone soon, but was wondering which one to choose...I've heard that both, the P910i and the A1000, have there ups and down...What would you recommend? Thanks

Tim.

I love my 910a. Best phone I've had.

I had the SMT5600, MPX220, Treo 650 and Nokia 9300 and I picked the 910a as my main device..

Yeah...I'm thinking of leaning towards the P910i as it seems reliable, and doesn't lock it's features down to a specific network too, (i.e, on the A1000, if you don't use the 3 network, you can't browse the internet on it..).

Anyone else wanna comment?

Cool...I'm in uk, and I hopes to be switching to O2 as they provide an offer where you can get 300 minutes of WAP every month...Not too bothered about EDGE though...Thanks for your help!

i've had both phones, and even the p900. Without a doubt id go with the ericsson. Just wanted to point out one thing though. The bluetooth at times seemed very sluggish. When I would connect with my pc (via my kingston bt dongle which is one of the best you can get), During transfers the status would get stuck at lets say 49% and stick for about 2 mins. Just long enough for me to almost give up, then i'd see it transferring again. No problems though with my bt headset. Perfect. One other thing i should point out is when transferring from the memory stick to phone's internal memory, the phone would shut off at times. I hear theres an upgraded firmware you can get to fix these bugs, but I sold my p910 before hearing about that.

it was the p910i I had btw, and i was using it on Rogers 850 :S

I find synching with bluetooth is sluggish in every device that I've ever had, from the Treo 650 to the Nokia 9300. I'm not sure what the issue is, but everytime I need a speedy sync, I'd use the cable without a doubt.

Thanks for the info guys!

I'd probably use the cable to connect it to the PC, just 'cuz it's faster I suppose...

Interesting...I hope that isn't the case with my phone...Where did you hear about the upgrade? And where would I go to get it? Who makes the upgrades?

Thanks

U can get the upgrades for the phone at sony ericsson's website.

I heard about the upgrade from a fido rep actually. Was quite surprised. You can get the phone upgraded in Toronto at a place called Bongo Wireless. But like xynos said, it should be avail from SE's website.

If the phone is unlocked... why can't you? I have an A920 and I can....

There is no speedy sync with the p910. I sync via the cable or IR, and the speed is about the same...... SLOW.

Depends on what your definition of slow is. In comparison with my Palm products (LifeDrive and Treo 650), its about the same. Just synching with Bluetooth is a pain.

I have owned many palm phones and now the SEp910a. With the same data, my Treo500 sync via cable in about 90 seconds. My p910a can take over 10 minutes. I generally sync once per day. The USB port on the SE mimics the speeds of a serial port, the transfer speed is 115K (roughly EDGE or 1xRTT wireless speeds). The Treo uses realy USB2.0 speeds.

My P910A never takes that long to sync. On the options, did you put the speed to 400k? That might help. I'm comparing the Treo 650 and P910a and the LifeDrive.
